First of all, thank you once again for all the feedback you've provided since launch. It has helped us shape the game and our plans going forward.
So far we've released two updates, while the third one is still in the oven, but more on that a tad later.
For this specific reason we've prepared a Roadmap for 2023. As you can see, we're getting ready to spike quite a bit of features in the near future.
That being said... We're be opening a public Beta Branch where you'll be able to test out upcoming updates and, hopefully, help us balance and test things out.
To access the Beta Branch, right click Impaler in your Steam Library, choose "Preferences", then "Betas", and choose beta_branch from the dropdown menu.
The Impaler team is looking for feedback on its first major content update - Update #3. This contains 9 new stages and substantial balance changes. We need your help to make sure the changes are making the game more fun, challenging, and replayable.

Dear friends! Last year was very difficult not only for our small team, but also for our country - Ukraine. There may still be those who will say that games should be out of politics, but it's hard not to talk about it when you have russian missiles flying over your head. Many of us were forced to leave our homes, all because of russia's insidious attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022. For almost a year now, we have been living under constant shelling, interruptions in electricity and communications have become commonplace, despite all this, we continue to work and help each other. Many projects that we planned to make in 2022 had to be frozen and we began to outsource and collaborate with other developers. Today we are finally release Paranoia Place in early access, we really hope that this project will catch your attention, and give us the opportunity to continue doing what we love so much.
Despite the impossibility of predicting the near future, we look at the world with hope and faith in the victory of our country, our people and the entire civilized world over tyranny. We have big plans and hopes for the development of this project, and we are also looking forward to expanding our team and getting back to work on our other announced and unannounced games. We are waiting for your feedback, reactions and emotions.
Thanks to everyone who has been supporting us all this time, peace to all and Glory to Ukraine!
Between Horizons – A Sci-Fi Detective Adventure - Assemble_Xer0
Between Horizons from indie dev DigiTales Interactive (the creative minds behind the successful Sci-Fi Noir Lacuna), deals with a massive spaceship carrying advocates for mankind on a mission to find an oasis away from a tormented and destroyed Earth. But what about the middle generations; the people born on the ship who never asked to be part of the mission and won’t live to see the end of the 130-year journey?
If that sounds familiar, it might just be because it is. Millennials all the way through to generation alpha are generally feeling a pretty deep sense of doom, in that there’s hope for a better “tomorrow,”, but will they be around to see it, and if not, is it worth making sacrifices for?
In the latest Between Horizons devlog, the developers dive into the inner workings of the upcoming sci-fi detective adventure, explaining that its semi open world and branching narratives allow for players to determine their own destiny upon the ship, and think about every action and consequent reaction. Underneath the game's compelling and plausible sci-fi plot lies a number of thought-provoking problems, inviting players to weigh intergenerational responsibility against personal freedom.
Watch the Devlog on YouTube now:
Features of Between Horizons:
Getting New Perspective: Timeless pixel art mixed with 3D environments and compelling visual effects come together in Between Horizons, creating a unique, beautiful art style.
A New Kind of Experience: Between Horizons merges investigative-style gameplay with a branching sci-fi story in an ever-expanding, gritty Metroidvania-style environment.
Failure is Very Much an Option: There are no second chances — submitting wrong solutions means the story will go on and players live with the consequences. A new and improved auto-save system will make sure there is no going back, as the story branches and endings are based on player decisions.
Between Horizons is coming to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4|5 later in 2023.
We hope you are enjoying the game so far and are satisfied with the recent addition of emissions and radioactive rain.
Today, we would like to address an aspect of the game that has been a focal point for the community, both new and veteran hunters, since the game's early access launch: the difficulty of the game.
One of the biggest complaints from new players is that the game is too difficult, with enemies one-shotting them. While this level of difficulty is largely by design and intended to challenge players, we are aware that it may be discouraging for casual or new players. On the other hand, our veteran hunters crave a more hardcore experience, such as having all items lost upon death and having a permanent death mode, requests that we agree are fitting for the game.
To address the needs of both parties, we are pleased to announce that we are introducing difficulty settings in the upcoming major update 0.29.
Difficulty Modes
We have provided three pre-set difficulty modes for players who do not wish to adjust all the settings themselves. These settings are:
Rookie This setting is suitable for new players who are new to the genre or anyone who prefers a casual experience. In this difficulty, resources will be plentiful, enemies will deal less damage, and your character will be more durable.
Survivor This setting provides the intended ZERO Sievert experience, where the world is challenging but not unjust. Resources are limited, and players must plan their moves carefully. Enemies are more formidable, and players are more susceptible to damage.
Hunter As the title suggests, this mode is for hardcore hunters who value immersion above all else. In this mode, players will lose all items in their inventory upon death.
Difficulty Customisation Options
For hunters who like to personalise their gaming experience, we have also provided individual sliders to modify almost all elements of the game. We welcome your feedback on the new settings, and if you encounter any new bugs, please report them in the bug report channel on our Discord server.
Trading In this section, players can adjust multipliers for sell price, item price, vendor money, and more.
Loot This is where players can experiment with what they'll be able to find out in the wastes. You can set the drop rate, minimum/maximum weapon durability, determine if NPCs can drop armour, and more here.
Progression This section provides options for customising the progression of the game, including character HP, transportable weight, hunger and thirst decay rates, skill exp rate, rouble and quest item rewards, and service prices.
Enemies Dying too often or are you gunning down enemies too easily? Here is where players can adjust enemy HP and damage dealt.
Hardcore If players would like to change what items they lose upon death or try out a permadeath run, this will be where they'd find those changes.
*Note: Each save game has its own difficulty settings and they are not shared globally. Changing the difficulty settings will require you to start a new game, as the settings cannot be changed mid-game.
Other Features
Field of View (Under Graphic Settings) This new addition to the game introduces the player field view, meaning that the map will only be visible to players in a limited, forward-facing angle, rather than a full 360 degree view.
Teleportation (to NPC) The bunker can be vast, so for convenience, we are offering bunker NPC teleportation services. Simply press 'H' and select the NPC you are eager to visit!
Main Menu Last but not least: We have reworked the main menu to provide a better experience, both in terms of visual appeal and functionality.
Goodbye for now, hunters! We look forward to next week's release of update 0.29 and hope the new difficulty settings bring lots of excitement for all players. Remember to tune in this Thursday at 4:00 PM GMT on our Twitch channel to get an early look at our Community Manager Lottie getting killed in Hardcore mode the new features. Keep an eye on our content creators, too, as they'll be releasing content for the update soon. As always, we welcome your thoughts and opinions on how we can make the game the best it can be, if you have any feedback please do not hesitate to reach out in our feedback channel.
Yes, we're learning to use Steam communication tools as we go, and we posted these news in the Discussion instead of here. To be sure you'll not miss them here are the recap of the two small update we pushed during the Fest. Some more are coming soon (but less quickly) with some bug removed and new small features,
0.8.2 Demo Patch
Here's what is normally repaired compare to the previous version:
+ the game that may crash after 3 games in tournament. + the bots AI are a bit better + some monsters in PaintBomb no more kills you (instead of just stunning). + Clones have now the same original player's sprite, and correct ground reflection. + it was sometime possible for some buttons menu to stay on the screen back from pause menu. + One Paint level was missing to play its music.
0.8.1 Demo Patch
What is normally repaired since previous version: - "Random Crash" while playing. (linked to teleportation usually) - Scrolling that was not working properly on Survival mode on some Hardware. - End round not working when Bots have a shield active. - Devil Monster victory animation badly played. - Survival Tutorial sign texts now dark instead of white for better readability.
Once again, those are Thanks to your feedback and tests <3 We have many many more ahead, but keep bring them to us (here or on Discord...)
