Welcome aboard and good luck!
With our love and respect for you, the Developers from VEOM Studio.
The expansion will come alongside update 1.6 in early Q2 2023. Both the free update and the expansion will heavily build on the experience of being a world class aviator and fighter pilot. Take to the skies, conquer the clouds and get rid of the evil pirates that control the wild blue yonder.
Also, we will do developer streams up and until the release, answering your questions on the new update and expansion. First stream will be 2nd of February and will focus on the new map.
Make sure to follow us on Twitch so you don't miss any content. Feel free to post your question below and we will bring them up on stream!
Hey there! New Main Menu UI arriving today. I made a focus for several maps support.
The hard work regarding the new map is still ongoing. I've managed to finish interior and exterior so far. Here's a raw look on a new map:
Quite big, isn't it? Yes, the map is about 3x bigger than the first one, and will feature one more additional player to play. Also, you will be hunted by a new ghost. I can't yet show or tell anything about the new entity, because there is still work to be done.
Thanks for contributing to this community. Wait for more news!
It’s been a while since we let you in on the latest in Honeycomb. That’s because we’ve been toiling away like a bunch of busy bees! In fact, our Technology Designer needs a break… And would like to tell you about the fruit of our efforts and how we got where we are. There’s plenty to learn, so without further ado - let’s delve into the world of tech design and find out how one comes up with what trees should look like… You can also look forward to a small surprise that awaits you at the end of this devlog - we’re hosting some visitors from above, and it’s not what you think it is!
Tech design isn’t all about numbers - technology has a feel and an aesthetic to it. We all know a chunky computer from the 80s gives a very different vibe than a MacBook - and video games are all about feeling. So we decided on a unique style from the get-go, and we’re working to incorporate it into every piece that appears in-game. A futuristic take on Art Nouveau doesn’t mean just throwing in some sci-fi elements into existing designs, however. Our designers work in accordance with tenets of the art movement - putting emphasis on fluidity of lines, flowing and sinuous motifs, and floral shapes.
Our Technology Designer translates his ideas into 3D right away, no sketches required. Above you can see the effects of an exercise he did when we just started working on defining the style of our game.. He transformed the look of a typical chair from IKEA and designed its sci-fi and Art Nouveau counterparts, drawing attention to the most characteristic structural elements. The next step was to blend these extremes until he felt like he had the perfect model. After that, we had a solid base for any future designs and could just follow a similar workflow. Easy-peasy!
Above are presented a few stages of base development. You can read more about it in our previous development update.
FACILITIES
Soon after we’ve created the base, we shifted our focus to base operation(s). All that tech (...and the bioengineer) has to run on something!
Silo consists of a water container and a power accumulator. It’s how you’re going to conserve these precious resources for a rainy day. We tried to make it blend in with the base while also giving it a distinct look by drawing inspiration from the Tesla coil - you can see it in the glowing sphere on top!
At first, solar panels were supposed to look like ship sails but over time their shapes started looking more and more flower-like. In the end, they are very similar to blossoms. Solar panels will supply energy to your base… Talk about flower power.
Another one of our facilities is the Antenna. In this project, our Technology Designer used organic design motifs, which he considers to be a contemporary version of Art Nouveau. The Antenna will create a radiolocation area, allowing the players to use crucial mechanics such as the Drone Hive.
DRONES
A lot of mysterious places and valuable materials are waiting on Sota7 to be discovered by you. You need to expand your base to find them all! Thankfully you won't have to rely only on yourself.
Drone Scout is a companion which will support the Explorers as an extra pair of “eyes”. With its help you can observe a diverse world of Sota7 from a bird’s eye view and explore uncharted territories. The design of this device is based on flexible and flowing shapes. Openworks structures and magnetic engines replaced conventional drive mechanisms.
Drone Builder is a gadget which allows the player to construct the base on a basic level. When working our Technology Designer was inspired by car keys. Drone Builder’s form is closely related to the style we used for the base.
Drone Engineer is the biggest and most functional drone in the game. It works in cooperation with the Drone Hive. Engineer lets the player construct a base in planning mode, while the Hive contains two smaller constructing drones that build it. A source of inspiration was of course the beehive. 🐝 In a way, the Engineer is like the queen bee who orders the worker bees from the Hive around.
VEHICLES / MEANS OF TRANSPORT
Sota7 isn’t just a planet - it’s a planet that needs to be thoroughly explored. You can go where your feet take you or sit back in one of your vehicles and enjoy the trip through remarkable areas.
Hoverboard is the smallest available vehicle. It allows you to move quickly from one place to another. Its construction was heavily influenced by organic design. We wanted to design something that would incorporate openwork elements, an electromagnetic engine and would still look like something that could be transformed into a smaller device. That’s how we landed on this branch-like model.
Buggy is a medium size vehicle with cargo space. During development the concept of the Buggy went through a lot of metamorphoses. All of this ultimately contributed to the creation of this vehicle with an electromagnetic drive and openwork supporting structure. Our Tech Designer disclosed that he looked at a lot of fish pictures while designing this thing. We decided not to question him further.
AN ASSORTMENT OF ODDITIES
If that’s not enough to convince you that we’ve been pretty busy, we’d like to show you some more odds and ends. We can’t really put them in their own neat categories, but they are indeed pretty neat. Just take a look:
Vertical Farm is a device which allows you to breed plants in laboratory conditions. As for functionality, the concepts don't differ from each other. As you can see, this apparatus has a double structure and a UV lamp. Like the previous ones, this project was inspired by the base design as well, especially in terms of its supporting structure.
Shhh, it’s alright… Just sleep. Yes, this is exactly what it looks like. The injector is a tranquilizer dart gun. Killing or hurting the animals isn't part of your mission on Sota7, but that doesn’t mean that you’re supposed to stay far away from them… or that they’ll always be friendly. Thanks to the injector you can obtain samples from dangerous species without harming them, or them harming you. Our Technology Designer considers it one of his favorites. He said this design went through a lot of changes, but he ended up really liking it… Which isn’t always how it works out.
If you’re still craving more after all this excitement, you can take a look at our friends’ devlog about their game, Aloft - a sandbox survival indie where you have to survive in a world threatened by an eternal hurricane.
Steam Base Builder Fest. As you might expect we’ll participate in Steam Base Builder Fest. Look at the stream we’ve made for this occasion! We hope that you’ll like the new mechanics we presented.
KEEP UP TO DATE
Alrighty, that’s it for today, Explorers. We hope that you found this devlog interesting. We are all looking forward to your comments! Your opinion means a lot to us. Once again, we want to invite you to Honeycomb’s Discord Server, because it’s important for us to stay in touch with you. You can also follow us on our social media outlets to keep up to date.
Finally, we’d like to encourage you to add Honeycomb to your wishlist and to follow the game, so that you’ll be kept informed about future updates of the game.

[Please add full game to your wishlist, thanks again :)]
We’re back with our development update a little faster this time, and we’ve got some good stuff around the corner! I’ve always wanted to make an overview of our project, so I guess this time has finally come.
Furthermore, I'd like to add that in this DLC you'll get a lot of farmer-themed features, not just typical items and jobs. You'll be able to do even more things around your house and immerse yourself in the farming life to the fullest.
However, before we proceed to the main course, I’d love to thank you for your comments and honest opinion on the latest news. It means a lot and helps us focus on things you find important.. Feel free to give us feedback this time as well.
Without further ado, let the show begin!
New House
You must be curious about what’s inside this suburban-looking brick house. Aren’t you? I can’t tell you everything, but be prepared for some tasty, foodie-flipping job! I feel it’s going to go viral on the owner's YouTube channel.
New character
That's Lily. You could’ve seen her on our social media channels, but for those who didn’t let me introduce her. She is known as a perfect wife and a pretty good rancher. But her precious cow, Molly, got lost. As though that's not enough, her barn got damaged. It seems, flippers, that your help is needed.
Mechanics
The leaves have fallen, and it’s pretty messy in your backyard. The best thing you can do is to blow them away. Why not use our new tool? Especially for occasions like this, we’ve prepared a Leaf Blower. Make your garden a little windy, and let the leaves fly away!
Oh no, Flippers, look! It was so sunny just a few minutes ago! Now it's raining everywhere. Let's wear a coat so we won’t get wet! As you can see, immersion is one of our goals and that's why we've made a dynamic weather system. There will be a few weather conditions, but now let's enjoy those chill raindrops.
Alright, guys, I don't know what to say... This thing totally blindsided us. The grappling hook jumped out of nowhere in the latest devlog, and you fell in love with it. And here it is! The tool is in its full glory. Let’s jump around and tell us how you like it.
Take a deep breath, and imagine a warm evening on your farm. You chill on your balcony while taking in the scenery. Sounds pretty cool, right? Thanks to our new mechanic, now it's possible. Try to redecorate your outside walls and make more space for our brand new feature. Take a look through the window and see what's outside. We're curious how you like it – the comment section is yours.
But that’s not all! If you want to change the way they look, try putting some panels on them.
Oink… Oh, sorry, it’s just my piggy. Want to know what is so special about it? She has a keen eye for truffles. In addition to its pink skin and twisted tail, she can also find diamonds among mushrooms.
PS: Oh, how I could've forgotten. Every animal in the Farm DLC will give you a special kind of resource!
Items
And last but not least, We’ve prepared some new items that will increase your immersion while playing our DLC.
We need more HORSE power! That's why we've made those obstacles for you to test your skills! Jump over them and have fun playing jockey!
After the fun, there is always time for resting. Take your horse back to its box and let it chill until the next adventure.
We didn't forget about our lovely hens! They're excited about their new houses! I personally love their little homes, and I wonder if you find them just as charming as I do. Let me know in the comments below.
Please, don’t hang up yet. I know I’ve already flooded you with awesome new stuff, but do you have a minute to talk about your car’s… I mean, your solar panels’ extended warranty?
Why don’t you take a look at the kitchen? Those shelves are begging you to put some jars on them.
Base Builder Fest
One last piece of news for you, guys. Steam Base Builder Fest starts today at 7 PM CEST, and our friends from Honeycomb made something cool that you can check out now on their Steam Page:
Okay, Flippers, that will be it for today. Thank you for your attention, and I hope you enjoyed our little overview. There are even more things to come in the future so follow us on our social media channels and Steam Page for upcoming news.
We hope you are doing well and fine and today, we're coming to you with few things.
First- survey time!
Because of our last patch, some things have changed - we want to hear your thoughts after the update. Click the link in the image below to take the survey and share your opinion.
What's more- we have a giveaway!
In cooperation with Frozen Way, we want to invite you to take part in our giveaway - click the image below
Last thing- there is another update in the Builder Simulator universe soon- can you guess what is it?
1. Added the ability to bind dedicated controls for moving the RADAR cursor.
2. Fixed a bug where it was possible to do a single action even though the game was paused (e.g. launch a weapon).
3. Modified the Fly By Cam so that pressing the Fly By Cam button a 2nd time will cancel the Fly By Cam. You can also cancel the Fly By Cam by pressing the Cycle View Positions button and it will place you back in your last camera position rather than cycling to the next one.
4. Fly By Cam now works on distance with a minimum duration of 10 seconds rather than just time alone. This allows you to do a super slow fly by if you wish.
We are joining Base Builder Fest with Mythos: Build & Survive! We are pretty excited about entering this celebration as rebuilding and building is a our second name.
The festival starts on Monday, 23/01/2023 and ends next Monday, 30/01/2023
We are showcasing to you our Stream on the Steam Store, so you can check out the state of Mythos: Build & Survive.
