Happy New Year, and welcome to our first post of 2023! 🥳 We hope you had a wonderful holiday and plentiful cozies. We ourselves took some time to recharge, and we're now getting back into focus mode 👩💻👨💻
Hopefully you are itching for more Tiny Glade news, since we have a couple remaining features to cover from the trailer 🙏 (and a little something on top 🍒)
🌄 Time of day
As you've probably noticed from our screenshots, Tiny Glade has different times of day: noon, dawn, and night. Right now those are just presets, but we're planning to add smooth time passage.
This is a part of a larger theme in the game: you can directly sculpt human-made structures like walls and paths, but the glade is home to animals and plants, and nature has its own ways. We want the world to have natural cycles, to give you moments of focus and building, but also times when you can take a break and relax.
We also have some plans for making each day and night feel a bit different, but more on that another time 🤫
🔦 Lighting
If you followed our game just before its Steam announcement, you might notice that it looks smoother and more visually cohesive than before. That's because we've rewritten most of the lighting code 😀
Previously everything had its own lighting calculations, so the planks in a fence reacted to light differently than the pillars, the bricks, and so on. They all lived in their own tiny universes with different laws of physics 😅 This gave us control in a single lighting situation, such as noon, but made it hard to achieve a pleasing look across all times of day.
Of course we couldn't keep ourselves away from Tiny Glade for long, so during the Christmas break we did a bit of cleaning, refactoring, and added a few small things here and there. Not all of them are visual, but this one is pretty fun - now if you raise a tower quickly, a few roof tiles will bounce up 😋
Aaaand that's all for now. Thank you for reading, and for the overwhelmingly positive response so far 💘 Many of your comments have put gigantic smiles on our faces 😁 We aim to return the favor once the game is in your hands :3

On January 31st, the Waltz of the Wizard (LEGACY DEMO) will be delisted on Steam. The experience will remain available to anyone who had added the app to their Steam library. The content in this original demo for Waltz will continue to be offered in the full version of Waltz of the Wizard, which has multiple times more content - voice interaction, gestures, many more spells, simulated magic system, upgraded graphics, deeper character interactions, combat, story and more.
The legacy demo was the first version of Waltz of the Wizard, released in 2016 as a prototype to showcase the power of room-scale VR and, remarkably, it remained the highest rated VR app on Steam from 2017-2020. At the time, experiences for roomscale and natural hand interactions were rare and considered an odd spectacle that would ‘never work’ as a commercial venture (hahaha). For us, Waltz was another step towards our vision of VR’s potential to simulate a believable reality — where everything is interactive and characters act alive.
Since the original release, VR has grown immensely and we are proud of the role that Waltz of the Wizard has played in its inception. With the support of all of you we have continued to push our vision forward for believable reality experiences in the full version of Waltz of the Wizard. We are so grateful and amazed by the reception since its release—our fans and the VR community have been vital throughout the years in motivating us to take chances and keep innovating in VR content design. (We are still in times when any innovation is incredibly risky—let alone when doing it on multiple fronts simultaneously! But we're far from done…).
We have been working hard expanding the full edition of Waltz of the Wizard which includes all features and content from the Waltz legacy demo and much more. There’s hours of gameplay we’ve delivered in frequent free updates, introducing pioneering features driven by the latest in VR technologies such as Index finger-tracking, voice interaction, full-body gestures, character interaction, gesture recognition and much more.
We're deeply thankful and humbled by the community response to the original release of Waltz of the Wizard and hope many memories will remain — and that the full version will continue to inspire broad audiences to see the potential of the medium. With your continued support, we are thrilled to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible and attempt to forge experiences unlike any that past mediums have been capable of.
The map Competition is over. Thanks to everyone who participated.
The topic 'Containment' was interpreted in many different ways, which is nice to see because many different maps have emerged from it. There is a new quick play bundle available in the main menu, where you can play 9 maps that I think are worth playing. Just a discplaimer: If your map isn't mentioned in this post or the quick play bundle, that doesn't mean it is not worth playing. It was difficult to choose the 9 maps for the quick play bundle.
Winner
A very nice looking map with many different custom objects which create a believable atmosphere and original concept. The player is introduced to custom gameplay mechanics like abilities and plays a large monster that is trying to escape. The gameplay is different from your usual AW3 battle, you can just run over your enemies and use your abilities to eliminate them. Due to the complexity of the map, it is not easy to run, so having a good computer is recommended. The best looking map with the highest overall score in this competition. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2908725954
2nd place
A really innovative map exploring topics that have never been explored before in AW3. Playing in a dream with a slightly unsettling and sterile environment with non-euclidean geometry, you try to escape. While this map is mostly straight forward to play with no real threats or enemies, it is definitely worth playing for the experience! Definitely the best map in terms of originality and technical design in this competition. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2909075190
3rd place
Just a nice shooter map with decent performance and moderate difficulty. There are a lot of different custom weapons and some nice gameplay modifications with scripting like auto healing and a damage effect that makes it difficult to fight after taking damage. This is the best map for a more casual shooter gameplay experience in the competition. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2907482599

This map features a nice scripted intro that can be skipped, because you will play this map many times. With a time limit of 1 minute, it is really short and very difficult to beat. But it's also nice to try again and again. The most challenging map! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2905159721

This one is a really ... let's say interesting map. The small player spawns in a dark map and a bunch of zombies are chasing while the creator gives a short voice acted introduction to the map. The goal is to run around for 3 minutes without being caught by zombies while there is a bunch of monkey noises in the background and weapons lying around on the floor. An interesting map https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2910130971
