I am Cristian, and I am Creative Director at Sand Sailor Studios. We unveiled our new game in the PC Gaming Show a few minutes ago: ASKA is a Viking themed open-world survival tribe builder, that places you in the role of a tribal leader landing your ship in a mystical ever-changing new realm.
You have to survive, build, craft, fight, farm, sail and prepare for the Dead Winter as you seek to create a self-sustaining viking society. ASKA lets up to four players work together to command villagers and prepare their tribe for the ancient threat that winter will bring.
This includes assigning jobs to villagers, constructing workshops, mines, farms and castles, exploring the world to discover hidden loot and resources, and fighting mythical enemies. Together, you will not just build a village, but a functioning society that you are a part of.
If you would like to continue to be informed about ASKA wishlist and follow us here on Steam, and don't forget to sign up to ASKA Discord Community. Development updates, blog posts, video content and more are on the way, so stay tuned for more exciting news on ASKA coming soon!
Talk to all of you again very soon! Cristian & The ASKA Team

Today with received a lot of feedback about the game. And we want to thank you for it - without it, we won’t be able to improve and expand our game. With this small update, we want to address one thing: servers🔥
Currently, there are only top options available for players - either Local Play with up to 4 people or Private Server with up to 10 people. And it is clear that those options aren’t enough. This is why we are currently working on an additional option - to set up your own servers on the local machine. This option will become available really soon, first - for Linux, and later - for Windows. As soon as they are ready we will update the game and you will be able to host your own servers.
This is only the first of the updates we will make for our game - more to come! If you want to know more about the future of the game - check our roadmap.
We decided to create a quick hotfix that fixes a minor camera issue during the final moments of the final bossfight. This issue was introduced with the previous patch and has now been resolved.
Full hotfix patchnotes below:
HUD and UI
Replaced the XboxOne X,A,B and Y 3D icons with the different variants that closer match the 2D variants. This change should improve readability of the icons under different lighting conditions.
Updated the default fallback controller X,A,B and Y 3D icons to use the more readable version matching the XBox One Controller glyph changes.
Level Changes
1-1 Shore Island
Gameplay
Added 2 additional gold coins to guide players a little bit better towards the exit of the head puzzle chest.
4-1 Showdown
Gameplay
Improved one of the camera transitions after defeating the final boss.
Fixes
Fixed an issue where the camera didn’t reset correctly after dying before applying the final blow to the boss.

Well, plans have changed slightly for what will be the eighth game in the collection. Production for Takoyaki Surprise has escalated a bit and I think that will make for a better full feature game rather than for this particular project. In saying that I've decided that this weird game I made in the spring for my game making community should belong here.
The game tries a lot of things, much like the games in the collection itself and it was very educational to learn and apply new skills for a project like this. That's a lot of what makes the collection fun in my opinion is just being a developer and trying something new, even if it does poorly for some you can learn from it to get better. For instance, all of the exercises I learned for Fox in the Woods went directly into this game when remastering it for the collection.
Cthulhu's Paradox is very much about members of my game making community and it was fun making a jokey game about them and clowning together. The subject of this game, Fenrir Lunaris of OHRRPGCE fame was in full support of this being released here, so it's hard to not get excited about adding it in. A big theme for 2022 was using premade assets and supporting the artists that made those. If you are a game developer looking to just get your hands dirty with game design but maybe aren't great at art, I hope games like this and Fox in the Woods can inspire you to just go for it. Your ideas are always going to be your own and stressing over art can kill some of that creative momentum as you learn.
I hope you enjoy Cthulhu's Paradox, it's about 3ish hours long and it's probably more insane and wacky than I can actually describe. It was a total blast to make.
