We have just shipped an updated Steam Client to the Stable (default) channel. This update includes all the changes and improvements that have been undergoing testing in the Beta and Preview channels.

Note: This update was re-released to fix a browser crash in Desktop Mode.

General
  • Reduced client startup times for users with large game libraries
  • Fixed issue where launching a game would take longer to start if there was no network connection.
  • Fixed VR flags not showing up in app details for some games
  • Fixed downloads page crashing when starting in offline mode
  • Downloads page now properly responds to online/offline status
  • Collections view can now show more than two rows of collections and allow scrolling
  • Reduced size of Steam client download
  • Fixed bluetooth failing to turn on in gaming mode if it was disabled in desktop mode
  • When installing a game always show the install location picker if there is more than one library folder, and automatically focus the default library folder when the dialog shows up

  • Fixed the 'Cancel' button in the wifi password dialogue for a new connection causing the current network to disconnect

Docked Mode
  • Fixed incorrect size of Main Menu in docked mode with 4k displays
  • Virtual Keyboard now has a maximum width, so that it doesn't stretch to an unusable size on large screens
  • Set scale for startup movies so that the top and bottom of the movie are cropped for 16:9 aspect ratio

Desktop Mode
  • Fixed issue preventing the Virtual Keyboard from accessing the clipboard and being unable to perform paste operations
  • Center the popup controller configurator window when viewing controller layout
  • Fixed circular download progress indicator being broken in game entry list

Sign In
  • Added login flow that supports new QR code functionality
  • Fix a case where if the sign-in UI had cached credentials which had become invalid, it could get stuck and not accept valid credentials thereafter
  • Fixed an edge case in handling of invalid cached credentials affecting reauthentication

Steam Input
  • Gyro Enabling: The "Touch" option is now available to controllers which do not have capacitive touch sensors - Moving joysticks out of their deadzone now counts as a "Touch".
  • All controller types can each now optionally choose to use a Nintendo-style layout. This flips the A and B button and X and Y button universally in Steam and in games.
  • The Xbox extended features driver has been updated for Windows 11
  • Fixed hang when the Amazon Luna controller rumbles on macOS
  • Fixed issue with the touch binding in As Mouse mode releasing before the end of a swipe
  • Fixed doubled input for Nintendo Joy-Cons controllers
  • Gyro Yaw & Roll Combined now allows negative contribution values from both sources.
  • FlickStick output can now be Inverted, and can be sent to X or Y Mouse axis.
  • Fix for FlickStick turning when exiting an overlay layer with the stick still thrown.
  • Desktop Controller Layout Now defaults to a desktop friendly set of controls. Long-Pressing Menu Button will toggle back and forth to a Gamepad friendly layout.
  • Updated Steam Controller LB and RB button images

Remote Play
  • Fixed glyphs for third party Nintendo controllers while streaming

New Big Picture Mode
  • Updated Big Picture is now available for testing. You can read more about it in this blog post. Modify your Steam client shortcut and add -gamepadui on the command-line to automatically start Steam in the new Big Picture Mode. Alternatively, pass -newbigpicture to start in Desktop mode and have access to the new Big Picture Mode at any time.

Two big changes coming with the update! First, Card Game Island allows you to actually try your hand at Warlock in an endgame, single player card battler. Second, King of Games mode enables the most punishing version of Kardboard Kings’ difficulty yet!! Let’s get into some details, shall we?

Card Game Island
The fabled home of the best Warlock players in the world, Card Game Island is where the best of the best duke it out in some of Warlock’s most important duels. To get there, you can join by buying an airplane ticket at the shop on Mondays. When you buy your ticket and end the day, you’ll be taken to Card Game Island, instead of the next day in the store.

Once at Card Game Island, you’ll have the opportunity to play the game of Warlock. Starting with a random deck, you’ll be able to add or remove cards after each match at set points on the map! As you move through the map, you’ll have the choice to visit shops or start battles and you’ll have a little bit of information about the state of the battle when you arrive. Every battle includes a passive effect strengthening certain types of cards.


Each battle both you and your opponent start by drawing five cards. Warlock is set up in two basic phases, the main phase where you can play your cards, and the battle phase where you attack your opponents creatures.

On your turn, you’ll first have the option to play your cards in the creature zone or support zone. The cards you play in the creature zone are face up and the main cards to attack your opponent. The cards in the support zone are played face down and support the creatures in the creature zone. Also in this phase, if you have warlock tokens, you can activate your legendary cards to trigger powerful effects on the battlefield. One such effect, for instance, eliminates all the creature cards on the field.

Once you are finished playing your cards, you will start the combat phase. The combat phase is where you can attack your opponents cards! Each creature can attack once. When attacking, select which card you’d like to attack with and their target. There are two different conditions you want to look at when attacking a card, the power level of both cards and the type of both cards. If your card has a higher power level then your opponents, then you gain an advantage as the creatures fight each other.

There are three types of abilities in Warlock: Beauty, Brain, and Brawn. Beauty beats brain, brains beats brawn and brawn beats beauty. If your ability type beats your opponent’s then you gain an advantage over your opponent’s creature. If your creature attacking has the advantage over your opponent’s creature then you destroy your opponent’s card. Draws in the battle keeps both creatures on the field. Destroying a creature adds its power total to your score, displayed at the top of the screen. The first to maximize their score wins.

During the combat phase is when your support cards come into play! If your creature that is battling shares the same color in the support zone you can play that support card to increase your creature’s strength or change the type of ability that creature is during the battle. Make sure that when you place down support cards that the color matches one of your creatures on the field as if they don’t share colors with a creature on the field they can’t support your cards.


After your combat phase you will draw cards based on how many creatures of different colors are in your creature zone plus one card. So if you end the turn with three different colored creatures on the field you draw four cards.

The match continues until one of the players reaches the score limit. You gain points by destroying your opponent’s creature cards. Their strength after applying bonuses from support and field bonuses is how many points you gain towards your score.

King of Games
King of Games is the hard mode of Kardboard Games! You can turn it on and off on the save selection screen and turn them on and off any time during your playthrough on the save selection screen.


King of Games adds these extra rules to your game, looking to really challenge the best shopkeepers out there
  • Weekly Taxes - Every Monday you pay taxes which is calculated based on your sales
  • Reputation drains over time
  • Tougher shop goals
  • More extreme piece changes to trends and ban lists
Also after each day you will be graded on how well you did based on reputation gained, customers served, requests filled, and money spent on cards and decorations.

Card Game Island will be available December 8th and I’m excited to get this update in your hands!
