With the spooky season just around the corner, we wanted to clear the mist and open the casket on what we’ve been working on and what you can expect coming up in the very near future.
Firstly, we have prepared a special something for Halloween that you’ll start seeing in-game very soon. You will start to see various decorations that are hallmarks of this October boo-nanza cropping up and around as you play.
Additionally, there will be a new Weekly Challenge with its own themed corruptions that are so cool it will chill you to the bones. Not only that, but a special prize awaits those who are able to complete the Weekly Challenge that will be yours to keep. Those who diligently watch our dev-showcase channel on Discord or follow us on Twitter will have already gotten a sneak preview of this card back.
Patch 1.0.3 News and Info!
Patch 1.0.3 will also include several new improvements and features – which we will discuss in more detail in the patch notes – but to give you an idea of what we have, there will be:
Improved card drafting system in Obelisk, and Weekly Challenge modes
Added a third line of perks to choose from at the end of the draft (e.g. heal/regeneration/vitality perks on Scouts or Warriors)
Improved random combat creation system so that two equal enemies are not repeated, as well as adding a preview of the random immunities of the champions
Three new enemies of Act 4
Improved several perks to give them more viability
Performance improvements and bug fixes
What About Halloween Costumes?!
There cannot be Halloween without some timely costume changes, though, right? Since the community has often asked for more skins and outfits for the heroes, we felt that Halloween would be the perfect time to introduce new cosmetics to Across the Obelisk that’ll put fear into your enemies before your cards are even drawn!
What’s better than an upcoming cosmetic DLC pack? Easy answer: one that will be available on Monday 24th October! Dressed to thrill, dressed to kill, dressed to steal candy from every boss in the game.
Look out for the patch notes on Monday when we’ll go into further detail about Patch 1.0.3 and the changes that it will bring.
Steam Scream Fest starts on Tuesday, and to mark Halloween, we are doing an update to Industrial Frontier including zombies! While it is just a bit of fun, we have been having a great time testing and can't wait to share this update on Tuesday!
Many new zombie variants will be available. These have been added as a new creature type, using the new creates system that is introduced in Industrial Frontier for the animals. We are also adding various improvements to the creatures system in next weeks update. The awareness AI is being improved with field of view, line of sight, and hearing. This means that sneaking around is now possible, where staying out of sight is important. Creatures will investigate noises like nearby footsteps or distant engines and gunshots too, even if they haven't seen a player.
To continue the fun, during Halloween, many locations will have spooky decorations as in previous years. This year, dogs and many farm animals are also joining the fun and wearing fancy dress!
The new zombie creatures will be available via the lua API to all players with the Industrial Frontier DLC. They will be permanently available so players can use them in their own add-ons.
For players who also have the Weapons DLC, we are also creating a new "Undead Survival" add-on! This is a limited time event, just for the Halloween period. Zombies will spawn across the world of Stormworks, as well as loot, often around buildings. You can disable this add-on when starting a new game if you wish. It is loads of fun and we recommend giving it a go on Tuesday!
We look forward to sharing this update on Tuesday! Catch you then,
Welcome back to our Curse of the Sea Rats boss rundown! Last time around we showcased the first of Flora Burn’s deadly crew, the brutish bully Fatso.
Now we shift our attention to another member of her ruthless gang, the mysterious and cunning vampire rat, Murat Reis.
Bat to the Bone
To reach Murat Reis, you’ll need to head down into the depths of Flying Rat’s Hole. Filled with deadly protruding spikes, a dexterous set of paws will be required to navigate the various tunnels beneath the Shellfish Rocks.
Once you’ve successfully ducked and dived your way through the first few sections of the cave system, you’ll be faced with the locked door to Murat’s domain which can only be opened using a special key. Past this, and descending deeper and deeper, you’ll eventually come face to face with the villainous vampire himself!
Love at First Bite
On top of his impeccable dress sense, Murat Reis possesses a unique set of weapons and vampiric abilities which make him a formidable foe indeed.
Upon entering the cavernous lair of Murat Reis you’ll immediately notice the exceptionally tall ceiling. Murat Reis makes good use of this space by flying and levitating. This may seem daunting to landlubbing sea rats at first, but be sure to sneak in some aerial attacks when you get the chance!
Murat Reis wields his trusty rapier with deadly speed, darting from one end of the cave to the other. You’ll need to be quick on your feet if you want to avoid getting caught in his path.
To compliment his sword skills, the vampire rat has the power to command dark magic which he can use to call forth multiple harmful columns of crimson energy. Keep an eye on the ground for signs of a bubbling eruption waiting to happen!
Beware as Murat Reis has one last trick up his sleeve… While you’re busy dodging his fountains of dark magic and rapier blows, he’ll also be trying to hit you with his brace of throwing daggers! You’ll need your wits about you if you want to avoid taking unnecessary damage and overcome this flamboyant foe once and for all.
We hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about the devilish crew of Flora Burn, but stay tuned as we’ll be back with more boss battle spotlights soon!

Nico Minoru was raised in an affluent Japanese-American family devoted to charity…or so she thought. In truth, to Nico’s horror, her parents were powerful sorcerers and members of a villainous organization called the Pride. After witnessing them murder a young girl, Nico allied with the other teenaged children of the Pride, disowned her parents, and ran away from home.
The depths of her parents’ corruption was revealed when Nico tried to rescue a friend captured by the Pride: her own mother tried to kill her by stabbing Nico with a magical staff. However, instead of being wounded, Nico’s body absorbed the weapon, removing it from her mother’s control as the teen’s own affinity for dark magic revealed itself for the first time. She is now a witch with near-boundless powers...except that her magic can be chaotic and unpredictable. Her powers bend to her will, preventing her from hurting an ally or healing an enemy, but precision can be challenging.
Specialty: Support
Nico’s abilities generate large amounts of Heroism while keeping allies healed and ready to fight. Her attacks are some of the most damaging in the game, but enemies are generally targeted randomly and cannot be selected.
A small patch to further refine the Halloween event for more fun! Remember this event is open through the end of October until All Saint’s Day on Nov 1st. Candy Corn can be saved for next year as well.
Another adjust in this patch worth noting is the change to the stats and spawns of a large chunk of mobs in the 50-100 range to give more spots to level for various weapon skills. Many creatures that previously did not have a weakness now have a variety of weaknesses to help spread leveling away from one location.
Halloween Event
Removed normal mobs (vampire bat, ghost) from Halloween dungeon
Bumped drops of candy corn on some event mobs – black cats in particular
Great Pumpkin is hate drop Encounter (not party drop rules)
Reworked Halloween dungeon to take care of a few cheesy exploits; removed columns and decorative pumpkin in boss room (could get stuck there, lame!)
Adjusted dungeon that passed close to pumpkin collector's corner of dungeon entrance; players could stand there and collect candy passively somehow
Removed ability to summon followers inside the Halloween Dungeon
Adjusted Halloween encounters to match the new dungeon layout
Creatures
Adjust to greater Skele stats
Adjusted weaknesses/resistances of the following creatures; creature groups have similar weaknesses/resists varying by level/difficulty and some variance within. To save you time, I have included a GENERAL guide. There is some variability; check creature stats before deciding what to hunt.
