Another tiny patch before Steam's Next Fest. As I'm thinking about achievements (and leaderboards) for the release, I decided to change the signs following level numbers (in SOLO and COOP games), which indicate the current "mode".
In practice, the important thing to remember is that you are no longer in a regular game when a "-" is following level numbers.
The details are a bit more complicated:
If a new game has been started on a level greater than 1, or MOVE LIMIT is off and COLORS are on (or they have been at any time during the current game), then level numbers are followed by "-". This is the easiest mode, which is good for unlocking levels and for trying out individual puzzles.
If a new game has been started on level 1 and MOVE LIMIT is on and COLORS are on, then level numbers are followed by "+". This is the usual mode to play "regular" SOLO or COOP games.
If a new game has been started on level 1 and MOVE LIMIT is off and COLORS are off, then level numbers are followed by "X". This mode is much more challenging than the former modes.
If a new game has been started on level 1 and MOVE LIMIT is on and COLORS are off, then level numbers are followed by "*". This is the most challenging mode.
To remind players of those relations, the signs are shown when setting MOVE LIMIT and COLORS (via SETTINGS > MODES) as well as when choosing a starting level for a new SOLO or COOP game.
And because regular SOLO and COOP games have to start on level 1, players are now always prompted to choose level 1 when starting a new SOLO or COOP game. (My current planning is that only SOLO and COOP games that have started on level 1 qualify for leaderboards.)
I hope this makes at least a tiny bit of sense. I also hope that it feels much more natural in game than in writing. Please let me know any comments or questions.
Once again we are working on a Japanese version of our coming title Outshine.
Just like Epistory and Nanotale, Outshine will work with companion words which are romanized versions of the words you have to type in Japanese.
Thanks to you we learned a bit more about Japanese localization while developing our typing game and now we understand that there are different ways to romanize it. There is the Hepburn romanization that generally follows English phonology with Romance vowels. But also the Nihon-shiki romanization originally invented for Japanese and his modified variant the Kunrei-shiki.
So our question is: What romanization Japanese would prefer in Outshine?
Please, if you are a player from Japan, vote using that google form.
Here are a few in-game examples so you can better decide. The Hepburn is used in Nanotale while the Nihon-shiki is used in Outshine.
I'm very excited to finally (and officially) announce that Of Blades & Tails will launch into Steam Early Access on October 19, 2022.
If you followed the last dev logs you know that there's a huge amount of new content coming along with it. The world map of the EA release version will be 2.5x the size of the demo. But of course size alone doesn't matter: There are new quests, new talents, new enemies, a new biome, secret locations, a few mysteries to solve and definitely a bunch of fresh legendary items to loot!
To celebrate, we've put together a new trailer that gives you a glimpse of what to expect ;)
I hope you like this little insight and that you will join us at the start of Early Access!
In fact, you can still play the demo now if you haven't yet and then take over your progress into the main game. (You will have to redistribute attributes and abilities, though).
Expect more information about Early Access within the next weeks!
Until then, you're very welcome to join our growing (> 120!) Discord community and discuss tactics or share one or the other treasure location...

If you're reading this then you've most likely recently wishlisted AEGIS Kingdoms. Firstly on behalf of the team I'd like to say thank you! Your support is invaluable and brings us much joy to know you're excited to play our game!
If you don't like reading long paragraphs - TL;DR is at the bottom of this post!
We've recently announced on our website (and on our Discord) that we will be launching some testing weekends, meaning we'll be allowing access to the game world on the weekends for testers. It's a means to help us measure metrics, find various bugs and analyze some much needed combat data (you can never have too much combat data...).
However, rather than letting you all loose into Ophelia, our current focus is on the Relic Hunter faction. In keeping with this focus, we've created a baby, minimized version of the AEGIS Kingdoms client specifically for the tests to help us get the data we need. So you can think of this as an alpha version of one of the many dungeons that will be available for you to explore in AEGIS Kingdoms.
Furthermore, before the testing weekends begin, we're launching our fourth Community Clash! If you've not participated in one of these before, please see the FAQ below!
When is the Community Clash?
The Community Clash is on Saturday, 1st October 2022 @ 19:30 GMT+1 - Visit the Discord to register your interest to become a Tester.
What is a Community Clash?
A Community Clash is a fun, semi-regular event that we run for a little bit of fun. It's normally some form of 'versus' event that pits players against each other. The game mode and rules change on each Clash and can be anything we want it to be. From a survival game, to Team Death Match, to Battle Royale. It could even just be a race. Whilst there is a little competition, it's all friendly and meant to be a fun experience. The Clash is open to everyone to participate!
How do I become a Tester?
To become a Tester, join the AEGIS Game Studios Discord and follow the instructions. After you've successfully become a Tester, you'll be invited to the Super Secret™ Tester Discord and be given a Steam Key to download the Dungeon Client.
What's the theme of Community Clash IV?
Clash IV will see players launching into the dungeon on a pursuit to find the Throne of Stars. The first one to do so will be crowned a winner and given in-game and Discord rewards. This clash is a full-loot PvPvE event which means if you die, you'll drop your inventory. This means players will be able to take your items, so think tactically about how you play. Furthermore there are a variety of obstacles, puzzles and mobs in the way between you and your prize. You will have quests that will guide you in advancing along the path to glory, but there is no specific order in which you must complete them.
Are there any new features?
The Dungeon Clash client is a condensed, baby version of the much larger AEGIS Kingdoms client. Unlike other clashes, this clash boasts some brand new features and fun never seen before in Clashes:
- Full character customization
- Persistent inventory & management features
- Player Activated Traps
- Automatic Activated Traps
- Locked Doors with certain requirements to open
- Hidden doors (who knows where they lead to?)
- Boss fights
- Wide variety of mobs at varying difficulities
- NPC shops to spend earned in-game currency in
- Lots of item drops
- Lots of cosmetic pieces
- Lootables of varying rarity
- Pets (purchasble and lootable)
- Quests to keep you on track
- Achievements
- Player titles
- Leader board
- Some fun easter eggs (try to find them!)
- ...and more on the way!
Will my progress be saved?
Unlike in previous clashes where you were playing as 'champions' that you couldn't customize, you now get to make your own champion, customize them AND keep all the items you find in the Clash to be used again next time.
In the very unlikely case we have to do a character wipe, a gold reimbursement will be given to all players to purchase some armour and weapons.
Will more powerful players easily kill me?
There is no difference in weapon damage between a level 90 player and a level 9 player.
Those of you following AEGIS Kingdoms know that horizontal combat is a pillar in the AK game loop. That is no exception here, with lots of competitive weapon combinations to choose from, we're looking forward to seeing the carnage!
Final thoughts
We've very much looking forward to Community Clash IV, and the test weekends. There will be a little gap between the Clash and the test events to ensure that if any game breaking bugs or issues arise, that we have time to fix it. Another announcement will be made when the test weekends
