I'm pleased to announce that Update 1 adds Steam Achievements to Land of the Mage Lords.

Also, I've included a bug fix for Blob death damage.
The Riftbreaker - voidreaver
Hello Riftbreakers!

We have just published a patch to the experimental branch of the game aimed at optimizing the game's performance and memory consumption. If you have noticed memory-related issues during gameplay, this might just be the patch for you.

Since we haven’t fully finished testing this update yet. We strongly recommend you to back up your save files before moving onto the experimental branch.

How to join the experimental branch:
  1. create a backup copy of your save folder (Documents/The Riftbreaker)
  2. disable Steam Cloud save backup
  3. go to your Steam Library
  4. right-click on The Riftbreaker
  5. select 'Properties,’ then 'Betas,’ and use the following password: IknowWhatImDoing
After that, you will be able to choose 'experimental' from the drop-down menu. Download the update, play the game and let us know if you encounter any issues. We also have a channel on our Discord: #rb-experimental-feedback - we highly encourage you to join in and share your feedback.

The Riftbreaker - Optimization and Maintenance update, Experimental, September 2nd 2022. Binaries #578, Package #198 Changelog:
Changes:
  • Added custom minimap markers for meteors and comets of all varieties.
  • Arachnoid Boss' projectiles now leave an acid stain behind. It will damage and slow you down if you walk through it.
  • Added Heightened Wall Floor building levels 2 and 3. Higher levels of these platforms have more hitpoints and will not get destroyed by late-game enemy artillery so easily.
  • The game will now always display its version number if modified content is found. This will help us identify bugs caused by mods.
Fixes:
  • Optimized memory usage reducing the overal memory footprint by about 500MBs
  • Optimized frame buffer memory formats improve GPU performance by up to 10%
  • Introduced various optimization during map generation steps in order to optimize memory usage.
  • Many sound samples are now streamed to optimize memory consumption.
  • Added instance limits for monster idle sounds - to optimize memory consumption.
  • Fixed lights and other effects in various props - you can guess why.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause save file corruption if a player died after they completed a mission during campaign.
  • Fixed an obscure crash that occurred while disassembling items.
  • Fixed collisions in small metallic crystals - they will no longer block Mr. Riggs' movement.
  • Sentry Gun and Sentinel Tower projectiles should now be able to hit the Metallic Valley alien towers.
  • Fixed a visual bug that prevented pipes from connecting to Geothermal Power Plants.
  • Fixed Phirian dash screen shake effect - the effect would affect the player's screen regardless of distance.
  • Fixed death effects for small units by lowering their scale - previously the effect would cover up the entire unit.
  • Enemies should no longer be able to shoot their projectiles over tall buildings - we fixed their collision heights.
  • Fixed 'Resist All' function not always working properly.
  • Fixed drexolian_medium_03 tree - the TreeDesc now has a proper mesh name in it.
  • Fixed a couple of missing voiceover lines.

New Art-style
So there's quite a bit happening in the background for the game right now. After Gamescom we got a lot of posivite feedback from people which is always nice to see. But it has also made some things more clear to us, especially the about the current state of the Art-style has at the moment.

Regarding the art-style, you've seen a bit of what we're after with our current shader which had a massive impact on how people percieved the game and a lot of positive feedback with it. But we shall not stop there. There'll be an update to the art-style yet again for the game which will improve the feel and look of the game even more and get us closer to what we want the game to be!

If we're lucky enough we could even get another team that can be specifically dedicated to giving the game a new fresh look. So when the update comes with the new art-style, you should expect a whole new feel to the game. We will ofcourse update you on the progress of the art-style, so do keep an eye on both Steam posts and our Discord server.

Name Change
Along with some of the other changes that are in the process of happening, the name of the game will also change. We've known about the issues the current name "Clönk" has, that it can be hard for people to find since it uses a specific latter that is not available to everyone be default. So we'd like to come up with a new name to distinguish the game better for everyone.

So what does this mean for you? When the name Clönk will be changed we'll ofcourse let you know of it in good time and tell you what the new name will be. We might even involve our players in the process of choosing a new name. But when it happens that means all places related to the game will also change it's name, that includes things like Discord and other Social places. Searching for Clönk might therefore yield you other results after the name change. So keep that in mind when it happens.

Alpha Patch 1.5.5
A new smaller patch will roll out today aswell, with some bugfixes and balance changes. As mentioned in the last devlog we're nearing the end of the Alpha stages of development and are moving towards the Beta. The arrival of the new Art-style will probably mark the beginning of the Beta. So there'll be a few patches coming out still during the Alpha part, before the Beta stages.

Resource locations of levels 7 through 10 will be available until 7 AM (UTC) on Monday, 5th September!

This weekend, we're also running a Gain Resources Sustained Challenge, where players can compete to gain Titan Tanks as a special challenge reward.

Hello dear players!

Today our game will change, and quite a lot - now it will be free. Below are answers to questions that most likely have already arisen.

Why?

Well, as our research shows, players were very afraid to invest in something so new and unusual, perhaps there was a lack of some kind of impetus, or maybe something else. In any case, in order to dispel the fear of the players, it was decided to make the game free.

How?

Now the game will have energy. This means that for each connection to the room, a unit of "energy" will be consumed, if it runs out, it will be impossible to play. To remove the restriction, you can buy DLC, at the last price of the game.



What to do for those who bought the game before?

We gave out DLC to all players who bought the game before the transition, so we will also try to give out something else on the next update, since our first players occupy a separate place in the heart <3

Want to learn more about the world of Mahokenshi? Well, we bring good tidings! We will be participating in PAX Online with a special video featuring our own Game Director, David Cicurel.

David will be talking about the four different Mahokenshi, design choices, and much more! We'll also be showing raw gameplay footage of Sota, the master of stealth. Watch him employ stealth and trickery to overcome any obstacle!
