Rust - Errn

A major part of Rust is its brutal nature and ruthless PvP, when we added the softcore gamemode last year we saw and have continued to see feedback that many of you want a game mode which takes away the standard Vanilla comforts we've added throughout the years and gives a more ruthless, hardcore experience, so we've done just that.

Introducing Hardcore mode - a new game mode in Rust aimed towards veteran players, gone are the comforts such as safezones, team system and maps but don't worry, the vast majority of our servers will still be regular vanilla Rust.

During this first pass, you will find the following changes on Hardcore servers:

Added:
  • Local chat (100m range)
  • Limit of 5 sleeping bags & beds
  • In-game changelog (top left of inventory)

Removed:
  • Contact system
  • Compass
  • Crawling when wounded
  • Global chat
  • Rust+
  • Team system
  • Map
  • MLRS
  • Safe zones

Changed:
  • Blueprints wipe monthly
We believe this is a good starting place for a less forgiving game mode of Rust and we will continue to iterate and improve on it moving forward. If you're a server owner and wish to enable hardcore use the following var in your server startup config "-gamemode hardcore"

10 new official servers will be launching today with this new game mode.

Furnaces & cooking interfaces were cumbersome and not intuitive for newer players to use, requiring precise splitting of stacks to smelt efficiently, online calculators and guides to manage efficiently. We disliked this and felt we could do better, so we revamped the UI and some functionality.

They smelt and cook at the same speed & capacity (or better!) as before while being quick and easy to use.

With this update, you'll no longer be able to store non cooking/smelting-related items inside your cooking deployables (furnace/campfire), to address this see storage buff below.

Over the past couple of years, we've quadrupled the number of in-game items and switched over to the component system, all of which require large amounts of additional storage. Now with the cooking and smelting UI revamp and removing the ability to store items within these deployables (campfire, furance etc) it was overdue we took a look at storage.

Today we've increased the small wooden storage capacity to 18 from 12 and the large wooden box to 48 from 30.

In the future expect to see new types of storage solutions.

I made some simple improvements to the coaling tower that aired in our last update inside the Trainyard monument.

These changes include a new way to access the tower from the top where the suspended bridge is located. This will make retreat from the building easier when the area is contested.

Quality of Life Changes/url]
Single Pickup UI
Mass pickups now contained within a single UI widget when hitting resources
Zipline Trees
Trees no longer block ziplines causing players to dismount and fall
Respawn Fall Damage
Fixed a long standing bug cuasing players to receive fall damage after respawing
Hapis Island
After neglecting our poor island last month, we are now patching in a boatload of much needed fixes, along with adding in a few improvements. The new "HDRP" cliff models are way more temperamental regarding placement than the old ones, and as a result we've had our hands full identifying and plugging tons of little holes to stop sneaky players from abusing the map. This patch fixes every single one we've had reported and identified. In addition, the long southern and northern road tunnel placeholders have been reworked. Instead of being these overly long and unpractical spaghetti monsters, they now follow a precise and much shorter path to make them a practical way to traverse. We've also dressed them up and added various loot spawns along the way.Lastly, the road surface has been a complete mess since the big update, thanks to some technical issues I won't bore you with - but this has also been tackled now. Roads everywhere should now be smooth to drive on, with no sinking anywhere.I won't go over all the other small fixes here and there, but know that we will continue to improve and fix anything else that comes up. Big thanks to all who submitted bug reports!

I've updated the old placeholder reclaim (softcore mode) and marketplace models with something much more in keeping and unique.

Your Adventure - (㇏(•̀ᵥᵥ•́)ノ)
I didn't post a newsletter last month, because I had gotten really sick and paused development, and didn't really have any updates. But I'm recovered, and I'm hard at work again!

I'm currently in the middle of the rework of the supernatural school opening level. I think it's coming along really well! At the bottom I'll post some screenshots I've posted to social media as I've worked.

While I work on the level itself, I'm also thinking about game balance, and where the best place for certain things to be are. In a previous update I mentioned expanding zYxl's shop to sell trading cards as well, but the trading card system being what it is, it would be better to have more access to a regular item merchant and access to the card shop in more of a hub space in a level.

So now there is a new merchant, their name is Dyllon Skramlf, and they work out of their trenchcoat. For legal purposes their trench coat counts as a nonprofit, so if any feds come by, put on the provided cat ears and act orphaned. Also, don't ask about them about the duck hat.

In addition to a new merchant NPC, I also updated the quick defend system. In the current demo there's a window in which you need to hit enter in order for anything to happen, now you determine the window. Hitting enter puts the targeted character into a quick defend state with a cool down, more damage is negated the closer to the start of this cool down state in which damage happens. I'm hoping this will actually make combat easier, while also introducing more of a sense of skill with the quick defend action.

Right now I'm hoping to have something new and playable by the end of the year, and I'm looking forward to sharing my work with everyone!

The Hayseed Knight - Maxi / SandraMJ
Hey everyone!

How are you all doing? I just came back from Gamescom a couple of days ago and it was a lot of fun! Exhausting, but fun that's for sure.

So as I previously mentioned: Chapter 4's script is now complete! It's time to move on to my favorite part... RECORDING! But there are a few characters missing for that!

This is where you all come in!

If you are interested in auditioning for any of the characters that will appear in chapter 4, here's the link to the Voice Acting Boards! You'll find all the necessary info there.

I'm looking forward to hearing your auditions! And if you don't get cast this time, no worries: there'll be other opportunities for chapter 5 too!

I hope you have a wonderful day, and a wonderful week. See you soon!

Also improved sound effects and added some that were missing, and finally added translation corrections for Spanish, French and Italian.

  • NEW: Show stars per level on campaign page
  • FIX: Corrections on Spanish translation
  • FIX: New sound effects for bomb, room victory and level up
  • FIX: Sounds when lost a heart
  • FIX: Game Music to not play while in main menu

uFactory - Lucid Silence Games
Hi everyone! I know it's been quiet for a minute, but the whole campaign needed to be scrapped and rebuilt from the ground up and that takes time. However! It's now time to reveal some more details about the new campaign mode for uFactory!

A Whole New World

First off, say goodbye to the old blocky planets and hello to the new hi-def smooth ones! These planets are much more fitting with uFactory's existing aesthetic.

uFactory's new planets take quite a while to generate, so a new one will *not* be generated for each new campaign game. The game will ship with a couple different worlds to try out, and there will be a menu if you want to take on the time and CPU crunching of generating a new one yourself:

Starting a Campaign

When you start a new campaign, all locations and roads are drawn randomly on the planet you've chosen.

You're then presented with a choice of where to found your company's headquarters. Each city provides its own special bonuses:

You'll then be provided with an option for your preferred tutorial level, something the previous iteration of uFactory's campaign sorely missed:

If you choose the first option, you'll be provided with a tutorial mission by the mayor of your home city:

Building Your Empire
Once you've chosen where to place your HQ, you're ready to start building your manufacturing empire. To get started, you'll need to find an appropriate building to build a factory in. These buildings are located in industrial districts of cities. So, choose the city you want to build in, and you'll get a list of spaces that are up for rent:

Some of the larger spaces require you to have a better credit rating before you can rent them. You can improve your credit rating by paying your obligations on-time!

Once you have your factory space, you'll need to build out the interior and then set up the logistics, which is extra easy with uFactory's new Factory management window:

This window will allow you, for each of your factories, to set a target efficiency (i.e. production multiplier), view your current production and stock levels, review and establish new orders, and set up automatic overstock rules.

Once you've got your factories set up, you'll be able to review their profitability in the P&L tab:

A Face To The Name

Finally, the last surprise for this devlog update... as you may have noticed in the mail screenshot above, uFactory now has person avatars for the people in the game simulation... including your CEO! You'll be able to design your own character and put a face to the names of the business leaders and government officials you'll be interacting with in the campaign!

A lot of the interfaces and features presented here still need a lot of tweaking and love, but the pieces are definitely starting to come together! There are more surprises to come as progress is made on the campaign mode... No release date yet, but we'll let you know as soon as we do. Stay tuned for more updates!

Tribes of Midgard - Norsfell

Hiló Vikings!🛠️ We have deployed a Hotfix to resolve issues identified during Season 3, including various crashes and Xbox invite issues.

There's no downtime - you'll just have to restart Tribes of Midgard to see the changes! 🙌

Game Changes
  • Higher-powered Enemies now also drop the basic Materials of their lower-powered counterparts, in addition to their usual higher-tier Materials.
    • For example, weaker Unsunken Warriors drop Yarn, while the strongest Unsunken Warriors drop Spun Yarn. Now, the strongest Unsunken Warriors will also drop Yarn in addition to Spun Yarn. Journal entries for these enemies were updated to reflect their full loot possibilities.

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when completing the Rune Scribe Challenge
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when respawning from the Hunter’s Totem

  • Fixed instances in which players would not receive an error message when trying to accept an old game invitation from a transitional or loading screen
  • Fixed some legibility issues with player names on the Minimap in the Village
  • Fixed an issue in which the footstep SFX could be missing while holding a Spear
  • Fixed an issue that could happen in the Shop in which the Purchase option for a Cosmetic would not update quickly enough after getting more Platinum Coins

  • [Xbox] Fixed an issue in which players were unable to send Invites from Private Survival Worlds
  • [Xbox Series X]Fixed an issue with the rooftop transparency effect in the Village Longhouse
  • [Xbox Series X] Fixed an issue in which some environment assets were set to the wrong quality setting
As mentioned in yesterday's blog post, we're looking to also increase the Construction limit. We’re also looking into Construction height, pulling Materials directly from Storage Chests, and alerts to prevent dismantling a Storage Chest that contains Items, among a few.

Talk again soon!
