We are back again with this Friday’s mod event run-down. We will showcase one of our newest mods by our community member, TH_Mrow called ‘Gun Game’. In this mod you’ll rotate different guns after you’ve killed your opposing enemy team twice.



How it works
  • You spawn in with a weapon and after two kills, you'll then change your weapon to something new

  • There is a kickback though, die from a melee attack and you’ll revert back to your previous gun
  • Goal of the game is to get to the last weapon to win the game
  • After 21 weapons, you'll finally get the elusive golden sword, getting a kill with it will grant you the victory of the match
Special Instructions
  • Friday (Aug 26) event will run from 4pm EST until 5pm EST
  • Join the server “Devs + Community Jam” to LEAP in!
  • Everyone is welcome to try this mod out, be sure to HAVE FUN!

How to get into the test branch:
1. Right click your Synthetik 2 in your Steam Library
2. Select Properties
3. Go to the Beta Tab
4. Select the version from the Drop down menu and it will download´

Warning! Its not supported to go back to U5 from the beta test branch.
So keep a backup of your save file!



We made tons and tons of huge changes all across the board.
The focus was really on the core game-play, we think that the game is now much more fun and the next goals and steps are finally clear. The mid-lategame definitely needs more development for next patch, especially the Chrono Squad faction did not get touched much yet, but I think you see some drastic improvements in the earlier stages of the game and in general feeling.

The next steps on the core game-play are definitely improving the spawn points, which is relatively easy, the mid-lategame and then the entire loot and upgrade progression will get a big overhaul.
Audio is also still in a really poor state due to some audio engine issue preventing many sounds from playing which requires a total throw-out of the system. We try do to a faster update cycle now and get these things sorted and also start the multiplayer testing. Check our previous post for more infos.

Please report bugs on discord or the steam forums, and also let us know about overpowered or lame enemy spawn areas. We will keep patching the U7 beta branch and hope to get U7 out quickly. Your feedback on the new core-gameplay changes is also very important!

Multiplayer Rollout
First Multiplayer testing begins almost directly after the full launch of U7!
U7 adds a new server pool, allowing global chat and other services to continue running, while allowing you to test multiplayer in a alpha test branch. We start with time limited test phases and a fast update cycle (in the testing branch) to get fast iteration and quality improvements.

Attention, room builders!

The time has finally come for us to announce the next room building event! However, this time around we will be mixing up the formula just a tiny bit! Allow us to tell you what Escape Simulator's very first Build-A-Thon will be all about!

⏰ The clock is ticking!

This time around we will need you to work on a much tighter schedule than before! Instead of having the event go on for several weeks, the upcoming Build-A-Thon will last 48 hours! To be precise, the Build-A-Thon will last from 17-09-2022 00:00 CEST until 18-09-2022 23:59 CEST. It will be a race against time itself, but we're sure you'll be able to fully utilize those hours to create something incredible!

🙋 How do I sign up for the challenge?

You can sign up for the the Build-A-Thon via this 👉Google form 👈
For the upcoming two weeks, you are also abelt to send in your own ideas for themes that everyone will need to work with. Afterwards, the theme we liked the most will be the final theme for this Build-A-Thon and will be announced in our Discord.

🗺️ Where do I submit my entry?
The submitting form will be shared with the participants right before the start of the Build-A-Thon! For now, we ask you to fill in the sign-up for and share your fun and creative ideas for its theme!

Of course the winners of this challenge will not go unrewarded! The three winning entries will get a receive a Pine Studio mystery box! In order to maintain the mystery behind this box, the contents of the box will have to remain a secret for now. 😉

📑 Rules

  • Room must be entirely new, no projects that were already in progress
  • Room needs to be built between 17-09-2022 00:00 CEST and 18-09-2022 23:59 CEST. Any rooms published after 18-09-2022 23:59 CEST will not be considered.
  • Builders must join the Pine Studio Discord – theme will be assigned here!
  • You can only submit one room. Multiple submissions will not be counted.
  • You must upload a video walkthrough of your room and a workshop link.
  • You are allowed to bug fix your room after submission, but not resubmit an entirely different room.
  • Copies of other players' rooms are not eligible.
  • Keep it fun/clean! Don’t create anything that might be considered offensive in any way or form. No profanity, racism, hate speech etc.

⚖️ Judging criteria

Rooms will be judged based on criteria such as the quality of the puzzles, level of innovation, visual appeal and more. We will compile a list of ten rooms that will make it to the community voting round. After this list gets published, it will be up to the community to pick three winners. More information on voting will be shared at a later time.

⚒️ How to make a room

Go to Escape Simulator, "Workshop" button, "Your Rooms," and press "Create". This creates an empty room, and you can start building. To get some help, you can look through "Tutorial Rooms" and learn the basics such as puzzles and animation. Or you can watch our tutorial video. Need some more inspiration? Then you should definitely check out the winners from our previous ‘Build-a-room’ challenges! Finally, you can also join our dedicated Discord community to ask about anything you might need help with!

We are excited to announce the release of the Expedition Group Finder!

Players can use the Group Finder to more easily form parties and complete group activities. In this article, you'll find step by step instructions as well as an FAQ. We plan to roll out additional features in future updates.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
HOW DO I FIND THE GROUP FINDER?
Group Finder is an Expedition-only feature. Once you’ve discovered (visited) an Expedition, you will be able to access the Group Finder UI in one of two ways:

1. AT THE EXPEDITION ENTRANCE
At the Expedition Entrance, you’ll now see a “Find Group” button. Click it to view the Group Finder for that Expedition.



2. FROM THE MAP, AT ANY DISTANCE
On the map, there is now a “View Expedition” button on the tooltip for each Expedition Icon. Click it to reveal that Expedition’s Entrance Screen from anywhere in Aeternum and then click the “Find Group” button to use the Group Finder.



You can now also enter any Expedition regardless of your location through the map’s “View Expedition” button, even if you don’t use the Group Finder.

Note that if you’re viewing a Mutated Expedition, the “Find Group” button will select whichever Mutated Difficulty level you have selected in the list on the left. There is currently no way to view Group Lobbies for all Mutated Difficulty levels at once. That functionality is a high priority for future versions of Group Finder.



HOW DO I USE THE GROUP FINDER?
After clicking “Find Group,” you’ll see a list of Lobbies. These are different than groups. Lobbies are staging areas with a dedicated Lobby chat channel for communication. Once full, the original poster can start the Expedition and convert that Lobby into a group.



You can either apply to existing Lobbies (up to 100 at a time), or create your own. You can also leave the Group Finder UI to keep adventuring while your applications are pending and even when you’re waiting for a Lobby to fill. A widget in the top right (similar to Outpost Rush and Arena queues) will notify you of their status as you play.

Lobby creators can set the minimum Level and Gear Score for their Lobby, and inspect all players within the Applications list and the Lobby itself to see their current Level, Attributes, average Gear Score, and equipped Weapons and Mastery Scores. Each player applying to a Lobby must designate themselves as a Role (Tank, Healer, or DPS) so that the Lobby creator is able to form an ideal group composition. Once the Lobby is converted to a group and enters the Expedition, these roles are displayed on the side of the Group HUD (currently only available to groups formed through Group Finder).

FAQ
Will I have to run to Expeditions to access the Group Finder?
  • No! You can access the Group Finder for each Expedition via the map, or at the entrance.
Are you able to be in a group while in Group Finder?
  • Yes! If you’re in a group, you can apply to Group Finder Lobbies or make your own Lobby without leaving your group. Once your current Lobby is converted to a group by entering the Expedition, you will automatically leave your previous group.
Can you play Outpost Rush and Arenas while you wait for an Expedition lobby?
  • No, you can only be in one Lobby or queue at a time.
How do I remove myself from listings?
  • You can cancel your application to any Lobby by clicking a button on the Lobby listing. Your applications will all be canceled if you enter an Expedition, or go offline.
If you are in a small group, what happens when you want to open a Lobby? Do you disband and force them to find you? Can you pull them in?
  • Yes! When you are in a group and create a Lobby, you’ll have the option to include your groupmates in the Lobby on creation.

Ereban: Shadow Legacy - aterrett
Hey, Baby Robot Devs here!

We are proud to report that Ereban: Shadow Legacy was featured on last night’s Gamescom Future Games Show! In our segment, Game Director Alejandro Márquez spoke in depth on what you can expect from the Shadow Merge mechanic. In case you missed it you can watch Alex’s section just below, or read on to find out even more about the Shadow Merge ability.


SHADOW MERGE: ORIGINS

We’ve always been big fans of stealth games. Since we were children, we have grown up playing awesome stealth games such as Metal Gear or Splinter Cell, and this passion has continued with more recent titles like Dishonored, Aragami and A Plague Tale.

Unfortunately, we've always felt there weren't enough stealth games out there, so we really wanted to contribute to this genre that has given us such good memories. However, we wanted to do it our way and add something new to it.

Our first step was determining the main mechanic: traditionally, stealth games have used shadows and darkness to make you less visible, so we thought... “what if you could literally merge with the shadows?” Taking an entirely different game as reference, Splatoon, we started testing if it felt good to move through the shadows in a similar way they do with ink. That was the spark that originated Ereban and the Shadow Merge.



But apart from this original mechanic, we felt this was an opportunity to experiment a bit with the stealth standards and incorporate some properties from other genres we also loved. Enabled by the possibilities of this mechanic, we combined stealth with platforming and puzzles, making it more dynamic than classic stealth games and appealing to any kind of playstyle. No matter if you are a cautious or impulsive player or an explorer, this game will appeal to you.


SHADOW MERGE: ABILITIES


Now that you know the origins of the main mechanic, the Shadow Merge, we'd like to take a deep dive into it.

As we have mentioned, the Shadow Merge is the ability that allows you to literally merge with the shadows and navigate through the shaded surfaces like if you were swimming underwater. Let's take a look at the variety of possibilities this power has and why it makes you the perfect stealth agent!

Stealth
A big advantage of this ability is that when you’re inside the shadows, you’re totally undetectable. Imagine how useful this is to deal with your enemies discreetly! A few examples of what you can do are:
  • Smoothly advance under the enemies’ feet without being detected
  • Suddenly appear behind their backs if you choose to play lethal
  • Conveniently disappear right in front of their noses if you’re in danger
As long as you’re not flashed by a light or stay too much time merged in, the shadows have your back!



Mobility
Apart from the convenient stealth possibilities, the Shadow Merge also means a big advantage in terms of mobility. Here’s some of the stuff you can to do thanks to the mechanic if there are shadows in the area:
  • Climb walls and reach high and otherwise inaccessible places
  • Use moving objects or their moving shadows to navigate from one place to the other
  • Go through small spaces to access restricted areas, ignoring fences, bars or gratings
  • Jump from high places and smoothly land in a shadow, completely safe and silent
As you see, the Shadow Merge is very versatile, so it’s up to you to discover, experience and combine all its possibilities!



The communion between Ayana and the shadows is something innate to her lost race, the Ereban. As you discover more and more about your ancestors, you’ll understand how they managed to dominate the shadows and all their possibilities for generations. Find these sources of knowledge, absorb them, and you'll learn not only new upgrades for the Shadow Merge but also completely new shadow powers. Buuut that’s a new topic for another time!
