It’s dangerous to go alone! Better bring a partner when you go monster hunting. At the start of every new run in Wayward Shadows you’ll first have to build your hunting team. That means picking two hunters and a vehicle to travel with. Once you have made your choice and started your run, this is it. You can not change your hunters or vehicle once you are on the road.
Pick Your Hunters
There are 9 different hunters to choose from, all with different stats, skills and starting equipment. This allows for a lot of different team combinations to support your favorite playstyle. Not all hunters will be available right from the start though and you have to unlock them by completing various challenging achievements. Each hunter starts with one unique skill and one weapon. You can of course find better equipment and even learn new skills later, but this is what you start with.
(The team selection screen)
Pick Your Vehicle
Every hunting team needs transportation. Which of the six available vehicles you pick for your run determines how fast you will get to your next case, how much you can transport and how comfortable the ride is. All those values play a role and depending on your playstyle you want to choose the right vehicle for your hunters. Just like hunters, most vehicles also need to be unlocked by completing achievements. And to make it more personal you can even name your vehicle!
Each Run is Different
All the different combinations of hunters and vehicles make every run unique and challenging. A big part of the fun is figuring out what combos work best and in what way to level them. Once you start solving cases and killing monsters you’ll get to level up your hunters and improve their equipment. Dual-wielding baseball bats? Extra bottles of holy water? It is up to you to build the best hunting team.
(Jing and Bronco are on the road!)
I’ll try and post more info on character stats, equipment and how the leveling works in future updates.
If you like what you see, and would like to support the game please consider adding it to your wishlist. Each wishlist addition goes a long way! Thank you and have fun!

Inventory systems, often called ‘backpacks’, are used in a multitude of games, and Disney Dreamlight Valley is no exception. Whether you like to keep your items organized, or pick up everything that’s not bolted to the floor, in the Valley you can choose from a vast array of bags and backpacks to suit your style.
Community Manager Rachel here again, bringing you an in-depth look at some of the backpacks you’ll be able to wear in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Your clothing and accessory combinations are only limited to your imagination, and I thought it’d be fun to shed a little light on some of the inspiration behind these items. So get ready to gear up, and read on for more info!
As featured in our announcement trailer, I don’t think anyone will confuse what (or should I say WHO) inspired this backpack. With a number of Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley, Mike Wazowski was an easy choice when it came to adapting an accessory based on the film because of his round shape. He also has features that are recognizable from a mile away, which made him fun to adapt into a wearable accessory.
Previously we gave fans a look at the 3D in-game models of the Mike Wazowski backpack, but I’m excited to unveil the 2D concept art behind it. When designing items for Disney Dreamlight Valley, our artists sometimes use real-world items to inspire the texture of an item. The use of fabric reference photos assists in the translation of how material textures should be further rendered in 3D. Can you guess what type of fabric may have been used as a reference for our Mike Wazowski backpack?
Next up is our Tangled-inspired bag! This is a relatively simple design compared to a character-shaped bag like the Mike Wazowski backpack. That said, even with a more minimalist design, our team focused on maximizing the details that make this bag easily recognizable as part of the Disney Dreamlight Valley Tangled collection.
While the silhouette of this bookbag isn’t uncommon, the eye-catching embroidery makes this backpack stand out. Our team had fun sourcing the iconic symbols, like the sun, used in Disney’s Tangled. Next time you watch Tangled, see if you can spy all of the symbols that were used on this backpack!
Our team’s vision has always been to give our players the freedom to create their dream Valley and Avatar. Part of realizing that vision was to include many styles of clothing and accessories that would complement each of our player’s unique styles. What I love about this Vanellope Von Schweetz-inspired ita bag, a popular backpack style from Japan, is that while very loud, it’s full of subtle nods to its source of inspiration – Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph!
From the sprinkles to the buttons embossed on the vinyl-like surface, can you figure out what each button symbolizes based on the film?
We’re ending with a completely different and compact backpack design. I know players are already excited to meet WALL•E in the game, and some have even recognized this backpack from the Disney Dreamlight Valley key art.
There were many ideas when it came to designing a WALL•E-inspired bag, from garbage cubes to the boot! The titular character won out though, as his shape was easily adaptable to a backpack. Additionally, we were inspired by WALL•E’s stripe pattern, as seen on his arms, to use on the backpack straps.
Thank you for joining me on this blog! I hope these backpack previews have gotten you excited to gear up for all the adventures to come in Disney Dreamlight Valley, coming to PC and Console in Early Access on September 6th. Do you have what it takes to master the dark arts of the underworld? 🔥
Alongside your arsenal of explosive weapons, you’ll wield powerful spells in Scathe to protect yourself or brutally dispatch your enemies 💀
But how do you use them?
In this announcement, we’ll be taking a closer look at how the Dark Magic mechanic works and how you can use it to maximise your demon-slaying potential 😈
In order to channel the dark arts, you first need to gather energy to power them, but a couple of batteries isn’t going to cut it. To really make the magic happen, you’ll need to gather the souls of demons by, you guessed it, killing them!
As you collect these souls, you’ll notice that the purple bar located in the bottom left hand corner of the screen will start filling up. How many souls you need will depend on which spell you want to use, with more powerful spells understandably requiring more souls.
So where do I find these spells in the first place?
We’re not going to give away their secret locations, but we’d recommend keeping an eye out for the corpses of Fallen Mages 👀
We don’t want to spoil too much of the fun, so we’ll only mention a couple of examples here to give you an idea of how potent Dark Magic can be 🔮
If you’re struggling to dodge a storm of bullets and you find yourself full of more holes than usual, the Heal spell can be the ideal way to even up the balance. Take out a few demons, endure a few minor gunshot wounds, use their souls to cast Heal on yourself, and rejoin the fray. If you’re playing online co-op and you’re feeling particularly generous, you can even cast Heal on your allies!
Looking for something a bit more offensive?
Freeze will allow you to stop your enemies in their tracks, giving you a chance to line up your headshots and pick them off one by one. As the old saying goes, revenge is a dish best served cold ❄️
The Fallen Mages represent one of the most formidable demons in the underworld. They wield untold magical power and are able to teleport between sections of the infernal labyrinth at will. Many are the enforcers who have encountered them and met a painful end.
Before their death, some of these Fallen Mages trapped fragments of their knowledge within ancient relics. Find these relics and feel their arcane wisdom flow through you in the form of Dark Magic.
