Blossom Tales 2 arrives next week! What better way to celebrate than by talking a bit more about some fun characters you'll meet and the new abilities they'll teach you...
One of the most exciting new features is alchemy, which allows you to brew 10 unique potions out of over 40 collectables found throughout the world. Keep an eye out for witch huts to learn new potions!
The magic hot air balloon is also a fun addition, which lets you quickly revisit areas you've explored. Summon the Sky Wizard's gift to anywhere on the map by learning one of the many special songs taught by the magic bards. One song even lets you wake up the heaviest of sleepers, which will come in handy for both the main story and side-quests.
Speaking of side-quests, we hope you check them out to meet some of our favourite characters. The colosseum announcer is particularly hilarious, and the mail quest is well worth it, not just for the amazing reward you get at the end. Sleeping mermaids, chipmunk kings, troll hunters — there's plenty more for Lily to do when she needs a break from kicking minotaur butt!
We can't wait for you to dive into our newest adventure! In the meantime please smash that wishlist button, tell your friends about Blossom Tales 2 and don't forget to tag us on Twitter with any fan art.
Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur King arrives on August 16th on Steam and {LINK REMOVED}Nintendo Switch!
We're now one week away from the co-op and conquest update release!
In a feat of excellent timing, I've spent most of the last three weeks sick with Covid, from which I'm still recovering. Still, the release can go ahead. It's been getting beta tested for the last several months, and I'm confident it's pretty solid by now.
Of course there will be bugs - there always are. If you find one, don't despair, come over to the Discord and report it in the bugs channel, or drop me an email.
I am really excited that you soon all get to play the version I've been working towards for the last four years.

Following a number of accidents involving the misuse of autonomous weapons, all the licenced pilots operating in the Enceladus space are required to undergo annual training on the operation of autonomous targeting systems. While the Enceladus Corp spokesman claims that the sole purpose of the training is to increase the safety of the station occupants, a number of mining guilds protest this mandatory activity as an additional thinly veiled tax imposed by the station.
New community patch for EIAA-1337 autopilot
A new community patch to the infamous autonomous EIAA-1337 autopilot reached a release candidate stage today. Taking advantage of the MIT licence of the software, a group of developers introduced an overhaul to the notoriously sparse visual interface of the device in order to expose its internal decision process. The merge request quotes a capability to “finally understand what the damaged thing is trying to do and perhaps not fly with your finger on the power switch all the time”. Elon Interstellar already integrated the changes into their next OTA update.
New simulation theory breakthrough
Researchers led by Dr Bostrom announced today a new breakthrough in the field of simulation theory; the idea that we live in a universe run as an immensely complex simulation. New experiments seem to bind well-known quantum phenomena with the simulation theory, suggesting that the universe seems to be approximating the quantum results when no one is observing them. Dr Bostrom suggests that we could abuse observed phenomenons to introduce additional shortcuts in quantum reasoning algorithms, significantly increasing the computing capacity of modern devices.
Maintenance Logs
Added the Pilot tab, with a full-screen LIDAR, the ability to hail ships and configure the Identify Friend and Foe settings for your ship.
New Tactical Awareness markers for friendly and hostile ships, as identified by your onboard IFF, make it easy to spot hostiles on screen and estimate the damage inflicted.
EIAA-1337 autonomic autopilot is now equipped with visual feedback exposing the internal decision processes of the system.
Extended Point Defence targeting protocol, with tuneable targeting criteria, ability to ignore obscured targets and optimize the turret turn ratio.
Enhanced the Geologist Mineral Markers. Your ship can now display 400% more and when they overflow, the marker with the least value is expired first, making the marker display more consistent and useful when mining overzealously.
Performance improvements for both the Enceladus station and the Rings.
A number of stability upgrades.
Radiators of Antonoff-Titan K225 will not remain on screen when the ship is exploding.
After an astrogation jump, ships and stations could ignore you if you arrived in their comms range.
Adjusted the hearing-impaired visual aid on the edges of the screen to be more subtle - in line with the music shifts that they are representing.
Improved AI collision prediction. Both NPC ships and autonomic autopilots are now better at detecting collisions and can navigate better around large objects. Your pilot's adrenaline boost will also not trigger so often when you navigate around large objects.
HUD size slider can make the HUD even bigger now, which is useful on vertical displays.
A side-mounted Cargo Container or Mining Companion would appear to be above an SPC Gungnir assembly.
Game engine updated to Godot 3.5, bringing new performance features, asynchronous shader compilation and the latest stability enhancements.
Using the kinetic point defence turrets now counts towards the achievement. This change is retroactive.
Improved the error reporting handler.
Fixed a display glitch on the cargo bays mineral scanner display.
The Viking Age (793–1066 AD) is remembered for its bloody battles, coastal attacks, and much mead-drinking, but most notably—its heroes and legends.
Whether they genuinely lived or were merely a myth, there are simply too many great Scandinavian heroes to name. Join us as we discover the captivating stories of five of the most famous Vikings!
Harald Hardrada
AKA: Harald III van Noorwegen/Harald Sigurdsson/Harald of Norway
Harald Hardrada was the final Viking to lay claim to the English crown, but before the battle to put himself on the throne, Harald led a fascinating and far-travelled life.
In 1034 AD, Harald sailed to Constantinople, where the Eastern Roman Empire was at the height of its power and wealth. Shortly after arriving, Harald joined the Varangian Guard, comprised of elite Norse soldiers who protected the city and the emperor, just as their namesake Unit in Conqueror’s Blade: Helheim does.
But Harald would return to Norway only ten years later after learning that his nephew, Magnus, had been crowned King of Norway and Denmark. Now flush with coin from his years with the guard, Harald formed an alliance with Sweyn II to dethrone Magnus. However, when Magnus noticed Harald’s new riches, they struck a deal and served as co-rulers of Norway until Magnus’ death a couple of years later.
With his nephew dead and Harald Hardrada’s title as the one true king of Norway cemented, there was only one thing left to do—make his claim to the English throne.
When an English nobleman named Harold Godwinson took the throne in 1066 AD, Harald launched an invasion on the shores of England. He sent a horde of Norsemen troops on hundreds of Viking longships, and arrived with Godwinson’s estranged brother Tostig by his side. Harald wasn’t the only one with his eyes on the English crown; the previous King Edward had promised the throne to William of Normandy, who also raised an army.
Harald and his army sailed up the Humber River, defeated the troops who met them there and occupied York. Meanwhile, Godwinson’s soldiers were en route to the North, hoping to repel the Viking threat to the throne.
The Battle of Stamford Bridge (just east of York) was carnage, with upwards of 10,000 Viking and Anglo-Saxon men losing their lives in the conflict. Harald reportedly fought like a true berserker to attain the crown he thought was rightfully his. However, he was killed in battle alongside his new trusted ally Tostig.
Harald’s death signified the conclusive end to the Viking Age.

Ragnar Lothbrok
AKA: Ragnar Lodbrok
Ragnar Lothbrok is as interesting a character as you’ll find in Norse folklore. He was said to have been a Viking hero and a Danish and Swedish king, and while he comes alive in the pages of old Norse poetry and sagas as a legendary character, evidence suggesting he actually lived does exist.
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, which collected the documents of Anglo-Saxon history at the time Ragnar would have lived, references ‘‘Ragnall’ and ‘Reginherus’—both these names are believed to be alternative names for Ragnar Lothbrok.
The sagas he appeared in tell us that Ragnar had three wives, the last of these named Aslaug, who gave birth to three sons—-Ivar the Boneless, Bjorn Ironside, and Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye. Significantly more evidence exists as to his sons’ validity, as they are all verified figures of history.
Ragnar appears in countless tales of battles and raids, leading to his capture by the Anglo-Saxon King Ælla of Northumbria, who tossed him into a pit of snakes following a failed invasion. The stories The Saga of Ragnar Lothrbok, Tale of Ragnar's Sons, and Heimskringla, all tell of Ragnar’s sons raising a Great Heathen Army to take their revenge on Ælla for killing their father.
The snake-pit-death seems entirely mythological in nature, and most historians believe that if Ragnar did in fact exist, he more likely died during his travels across the Irish Sea between 852 and 856 AD.
While Ragnar Lothbrok led a life that became legend, or was born a myth, he has become a fascinating figure in history and popular culture and inspired a great many works of literature, cinema, television, and videogames.
Cnut the Great
AKA: Canute/Knut
Cnut the Great held many great titles in his life as the Danish king of England, Denmark, and Norway. After winning the English throne in 1016 AD, his brutality in the first few years of his rule is notable, as he killed any English opponent to his crown swiftly and ruthlessly. However, he soon became a peaceful and effective ruler, easing England back into a time of prosperity.
Cnut is perhaps best known for the story of King Canute and the Tide. Recorded by Henry of Huntingdon in the 12th century, the tale paints Cnut very favourably and shines a light on his "graceful and magnificent" behaviour. The story goes that Cnut places his throne by the sea and commands the tide to halt so his feet and clothes remain dry. The tide continues to rise, disregarding the royalty before it, and splashes Cnut. Humbled by this act of nature, Cnut declares, “let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws.” He then hung his crown on a crucifix and never wore it again.
In more recent years, the story of King Canute and the Tide is told in a way that paints Cnut to be arrogant to believe the sea would bend to his will, leading to his humiliation when it did not obey. The anecdote is often used by political pundits to embarrass arrogant politicians who believe they can control events.
Rollo of Normandy
AKA: Rollon/Rolf
Rollo’s heritage is unknown, yet many historians have different ideas about where he came from. Dudo of Saint-Quentin, a Norman historian, claims that Rollo was an aristocrat from Denmark, while William of Malmesbury reports he was from Norway, and also of noble lineage.
However, we can be sure that he was a Viking chief who led raids, as chronicles from the time regarding Viking raids in Rouen coincide with reports of his life. Scandinavian sagas tell the tale of Rollo sailing off to raid England, Scotland, and France, where he would eventually establish himself as ruler.
In the 10th century, after razing Rouen, Rollo became the first ruler of Normandy after striking a deal with the King of France, and brought his unique brand of Viking rule to the people. Personal honour and responsibility were his main concern as he reformed many passive laws, including making theft, assault, murder, and even fraud punishable by death.
Rollo’s legacy lives on to this day, as one of his descendants still sits on the throne. He is the great-great-great grandfather of William the Conqueror, who became the first Norman King of England in 1066 and therefore related to the current British Royal Family and the reigning Queen Elizabeth II.

Erik the Red
AKA: Erik Thorvaldsson
The second banishment would occur after the theft of ornamental beams Erik wanted to use to build his new home, which resulted in a chase, three killings, and another exile.
With a new home to be sought, Erik founded the first Viking settlement in Greenland after heading out to sea. When his exile was over, he returned to Iceland and convinced people to join him on this new and prosperous island and became rich and respected as a ruler.
Tribes of Midgard Season 3: Inferno Saga launches on August 16 with a completely revamped Survival Mode!
Our goal is to create the ultimate Viking sandbox that blends our combined love for ARPGs, Survival games, and Norse mythology. Fans of both the quicker, Rogue-lite-inspired Surthrival gameplay of Saga Mode, as well as the slower, more exploratory pace of Survival Mode will feel equally served in updates moving forward.
Survival Mode has been fully rebuilt from the ground up to transform it into a more relaxed but equally exciting Tribes of Midgard experience. Some of the more time-pressure elements of Saga Mode have been stripped away. Say goodbye to the Endless Winter and Nightly Defenses, and say hiló to a variety of Helthings and monsters to hack and slash through in the wild!
The Survival 2.0 update now begins in a time before the Seed of Yggdrasil had a fully fleshed-out Village to call home. The Einherjar start off in the Sanctuary in a World without any Village, Walls, Constructions, or friendly Villagers to craft for you. Veteran Einherjar, Eira Foot-Crushed, is around to provide initial guidance (and protection!) on what you need to do - with help from some furry little friends along the way– see Catorials below!
We also had the absolute pleasure of being able to create an animated trailer to celebrate the new Survival Mode updates - check out our collaboration with Titmouse here!
So what does an Einherjar without a Village do? They start building! The Construction system was massively overhauled to allow players to create the exact homes they want. Not only in terms of features, with new capabilities like camera rotation and new Build Menu, but also in terms of content, with new Stairs, Doors, Pillars, Decorations, etc. as well as a wide variety of Crafting Stations for all the Builder Vikings out there.
This update to Survival Mode, as well as all content from previous Seasons, will also be included for free in the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions when Tribes of Midgard releases on those platforms on August 16.
It will also feature a number of changes to core gameplay, including:
Choose Your Own Adventure
Survival 2.0 is designed so you can play Tribes of Midgard at your own pace. There are many new features to accommodate this change in Survival Mode…but the biggest? There will no longer be a Village to defend every night! What else?
Days will last longer at 20 minutes each to give ample time before the night. Note that seasons will keep on alternating between summer and winter.
Helthings will spawn sporadically throughout the environment at night but will not attack the Seed of Yggdrasil. They are still tough to take down but offer dark Materials and XP when defeated. Make sure you’re prepared if taking a night-time stroll!
Each of the Jötnar have set spawn points located within enclosed Arenas that have to be entered in order to defeat them in open combat. This can be done at any time, and can be repeated with a greater challenge, provided you’re up for the task.
Crafting System
The crafting system in Survival has been entirely reinvented. With no Village or Villager vendors, you’ll need to rely on yourself and the trusty Allforge—a magical little Dwarven invention accessed from the Build Menu and placed anywhere, free of any Material costs—to progress and survive. The Allforge lets you repair Equipment for a standard Souls cost, and more importantly, instantly build as many Constructions, Crafting Stations, and Decorations as you can, anywhere on the map. Each player can only have one Allforge out at once, so simply craft it again to redeploy to a new position.
Once a Crafting Station has been built from the Allforge, it will show up in your Build Menu inventory. Use the Build Menu again to place the Crafting Station wherever you’d like and get crafting.
Need Tools to start chopping wood and mining iron? Use the Allforge to build a Tool Grinder and craft some Tools!
Are wolves getting a little too close for comfort? Use the Allforge to build a Weapon Furnace and fight them off!
Hurt yourself trying to sneak into a Dökkálfar Camp? Use the Allforge to craft a Meal Cauldron and get cooking with all new recipes to heal and buff your character!
Crafting Stations can be upgraded to unlock more powerful recipes and even entirely new Stations. They can be placed anywhere, including on the higher floors/stories built in your base. Once you get going, it’s only a matter of time before you have a Village of your own.
Saga Quests
Saga Quests act as overarching objectives for players to progress towards. The first several Saga Quests will have you hunting down the Jötnar in their Arenas. Upon their defeat, they will reward players' Materials to further progress in the World by unlocking powerful Crafting Stations, such as the Boat Dock, that will allow you to sail to new lands, loot better Materials, and take on greater challenges (even the Ancients themselves). Ancients (formerly known as Saga Bosses) are the almighty bosses that are introduced in each new Saga. There are powerful rewards for taking down the Ancients:
Sindri’s Foundry: Defeating Fenrir rewards players with a unique Construction that consumes unwanted Equipment and Runes for Souls. Invincible to damage and can be re-deployed at will like the Allforge.
Freyr’s Ship: Defeating Jörmungandr rewards players with the fabled Skíðblaðnir, a unique Drakkar ship. Invincible to damage, can be re-deployed at will, and is the fastest ship in the game.
Heimdallr’s Tower: Defeating the Inferno Ancient (name unknown… for now!) rewards players with a mighty Watchtower and garrisoned Archer. Just like a standard Watchtower, the Archer can be equipped with more powerful arrows. Unlike standard Watchtowers, however, this Archer is stronger by default, the tower is invincible to damage, and can be re-deployed at will.
Blessing Tree and Level Progression
With the Survival Update, Einherjar will choose their skills through an entirely new Blessing Tree. The Blessing Tree is unique to this game mode and allows for more freedom to pick and choose from the 90 Blessings available. With this change, the max Character Level is increased to 50 to give more skill combinations during the increased playtime per World.
Shared Character XP for upgrading Stations or activating Portals has been changed in favor of personal Character XP gains for exploring and continual building. Players will work together to build a community and adventure through the land of Midgard.
While playing Survival, your Viking will come across Season XP loot. Season XP has a chance to drop from any activity that will also net you Character XP, such as defeating enemies and harvesting resources. Some methods guarantee large amounts of Season XP to drop, like defeating powerful enemies or raiding Camps.
Season XP is automatically attributed to your Account Profile in real time and contributes to your Season progression, no need to turn it in or Abandon your World.
The World
The Worlds generated in Survival 2.0 are larger than anything seen previously and have been custom-tailored to the game mode. Players start on a large, central continent and will be able to explore the Open Seas as they progress through the early steps of their adventure. Due to the increased player agency over exploration and means of travel, managing where your base is located will be key. There are a number of options to safely expand your dominion via crafting at the Allforge:
Beds: Beds can be claimed to serve as Respawn points, which will come handy when facing your demise (being an Einherjar does not make you invincible!)
Bonfires: Bonfires will help keep you warm in cold climates so long as you deposit Branches to keep the fires alive. Very useful when landing on a cool Ash Beach in the dead of night.
Shrines: Shrines act as Fast Travel points, allowing you and your Tribe to build your own travel network throughout Midgard!
Construction 2.0
We’ve reworked the Construction inventory to be more modular and significantly more flexible. Everything is scaled to fit a 1x1x1 area for increased interconnectivity. In addition to Grounds, Fences, and Ramps, new Construction pieces are available including Walls, Pillars, Roofs, and Doors, among many others. Each Construction comes in three tiers with different levels of strength and material requirements, ranging from twig/thatch and wood to slate/stone.
The camera is able to be rotated while in the Build mode, allowing the careful placement of Constructions while crafting your perfect mead hall! Pieces are able to be placed along the Z-axis for up to four levels, allowing for some cozy building while the threats are kept at bay.
Upset with where you’ve placed a particular Construction? Deconstruct freely with more accuracy with the Mallet. The Mallet is now triggered by default when in Build mode and simply highlighting a Construction will allow you to dismantle it. Deconstructing your Stations will return the Materials used to build them if you ever feel you want to entirely pack up and build out somewhere new. Further, this Mallet mode also gives the option to repair said Constructions. What a magical Mallet.
Tutorial Cats (Catorials?)
Freyja’s chatty cats from the Tutorial, Sóleyra and Mániklo, make a triumphant return in the update on August 16!
To help guide you through a number of introductory systems in Survival 2.0, one of Freyja’s cats, changing depending on the context, will spawn when you interact with certain triggers in the environment, providing further context and even some tips as you get started on your adventure. They may be cheerful and snarky, but they're talking cats!
That’s all for now, Vikings - we appreciate your continued support and are looking forward to bringing this update to all of you in just one week from now! :D
Seil seil, and talk again very soon, The Norsfell team
