Sun Haven - Pixel Sprout Studios
Edited (9/13) - The team is currently finalizing a stable version for the Public Beta Environment, which should release to the public very soon. Updates for this will be posted in our Discord. Since this is a major update to the game with a lot of new content, we'll need to test the patch on the public beta environment for at least 1 week while we collect and squash bugs. As such, we'll release the patch to players worldwide as soon as we validate that the game is stable.

Hey everyone! It’s Bruce, from Pixel Sprout Studios.

We hope everyone has been having an awesome summer so far! For us at the studio, we’ve been having a blast finishing up Sun Haven here, as we get to the last couple of patches before our big 1.0 launch. Going forward, we’re going to start posting our Dev Blogs to Steam, starting with this one! The goal for these is to keep communication up with players outside of just the official Sun Haven Discord, as well as give some sneak peeks into the next patch. If you'd like to see the rest of our previous Dev Blogs, check them out on our website.

With that being said:

Sun Haven’s next major patch, Patch 0.6: Events & Bosses, will be coming on Wednesday, September 14th, 2022.

This patch includes new places to explore, boss encounters, improved maps, controller support, an update to the storyline, and more. As always, features and timelines between now and the future can change, but this is the release date and general features that we’re currently planning on releasing. Without further ado, let’s jump in.

More Story
As the world grows and evolves alongside the development process, the story we made for an originally smaller game has room to grow as well. In this coming patch, we’re planning to ship changes to both the Withergate and Sun Haven questlines. The changes go all the way back to Day 1 in Sun Haven, including a new intro cutscene, which should help distill more world context when players first start the game. To see these changes, you might want to make a new character!



Character Customization
Speaking of building a new character, significant additions are coming to character customization as well. We’re still finishing them up over the next few weeks, but our plan is to ship this patch with a bunch more customization for all the races, including races that didn’t have as many options before, like Amari and Elementals. We’ll also do a pass to make sure we have a “None Selected” option for races, so you can finally be a Demon or Angel without wings.



Sun Haven Town Expansion
This patch, we bumped into difficulties finding enough space for new characters and events in the Sun Haven town. It’s not so surprising considering how much the game has grown over the last year. To solve this, we had to make the town of Sun Haven a little bit larger. This includes improving existing locations to accommodate more space for characters and events, as well as adding a few new locations to explore. There’s also a museum now, which we’ll be opening for business in Patch 0.7: Seasons.





Bosses and Battles
Players have been requesting some serious challenges to spice up the gameplay, so here they are! Don’t worry though– as always in Sun Haven, there are plenty of creative ways to overcome bosses through non-combative ways. Whichever way you choose, we hope you’ll enjoy these new challenges!



The Lantern Festival
Spring (the season Sun Haven currently always is) will include a brand-new community event: The Lantern Festival. This is a great time to meet your neighbors and explore some of the culture behind Sun Haven. Come get your free lantern and enjoy the festivities!



Controller Support
We’re also rolling out controller support with this new patch, which we know many of our players have been asking for. We unfortunately weren’t able to squeeze it in for the last patch, but this time we should be good to go! Get ready to sit back and relax on the couch with a controller while you play!

Nel'Vari and Withergate Mines
Nel’Vari and Withergate are also getting their very own mining maps to explore. These updates will include a total of 20 new maps, where you can mine new resources, purchase new upgrades, and craft new items! This is the feature for players looking to max out their character, and will be an integral part of beating the game through combat.



Multiplayer Bug Fixes
For the final feature in this Dev Blog, this update includes improvements to the multiplayer system. This includes an overhaul to the base of the multiplayer system, and it should have fixes for most multiplayer issues, especially player disconnections. Remember that if anything happens, you can always roll back your character/world with the ‘Load Backups’ button on the ‘Load Character’ menu in the main menu.

Lastly, we’d like to invite players interested in participating in the development of the game to play on the Public Beta Environment. To join in, join the official Sun Haven Discord server and follow these instructions. We’ll have the newest content up on this beta environment soon. Once it’s ready, you’ll get a chance to see all the upcoming content ahead of time. Let us know what you think!

Thanks for your continued support of "VOIDCRISIS". The Early Access was met with great response, and the development team was alternately elated and nervous.

Some of the feedback we received was positive, so we quickly decided to update it next week!

New Features
  • Sub filter buttons added to Crafting Panel. Now on, we can filter craft items by types like food or weapons.


Improvements
  • Boarding the enemy ship now has two stages. One, we dock to ship as usual. Then, we should give a second order to our crew for boarding the enemy ship.
  • Player melee combat lock distance increased. So, we can continue to keep focus when we dodge back.
  • The Player's some of sword attacks animation is changed. We can hit the enemy's body easier.
  • Almost all crafting times were decreased. Now, we can craft faster.
  • Ship wheel and shipwreck's location were changed. So, new players won't have to go and return back between the same locations 3 times.
  • The speed of climbing animations was increased.
  • Player main capsule height is decreased a bit, so we will be able to enter smaller areas now.
  • Auto heath restores when the player is about to die, are only enabled for easy and normal mode players now.
  • Now on, enemy soldiers can't hurt us while we are already attacking if we are playing on Easy game mode.
  • Also, enemy soldiers can't hurt us while we are rolling or doing dodge if we are playing on Normal game mode.


Bug Fixes
  • Now on, there is no penalty when our ship sunk. The game won't auto-saving to dock anymore. It will load only previous saved data.
  • When you changed the gender of the player and reload the game, the player doesn't return back the previous gender anymore.
  • Our mast doesn't keep locked when it is in an invisible state anymore.
  • Some quest help mechanics were kept working when the game mode was hard or impossible, but they no longer work.
  • The ambiance and game sound are not mute when we pause the game issue is fixed.
  • Sometimes we can die because of hunger when we are drunk, now we wake up.
  • Fixed the issue where sometimes the trajectory of the cannon would not be visible when aiming while driving our ship.

Jupito: Special Captain for Jupiterium.
Mia: Queen of the Earthsphere.
AEGIS: Transcendental IA, controlled by the Heliosphere Management Committee before the era of Sectional Warfare.
Aegis: Individual IA specializations of the AEGIS that is found onboard every VA.

The 3rd Crack ──〈Jupiterium Special Captain Jupito〉Video Report

The analysis beacon transmitted an image of the inside of the crack. Saya was alone with Jupito inside the lab, which made her somewhat nervous. She made a conscious effort to ignore him and continued working.

“Huh? The signal’s pretty weak.”
“We should also consider the possibility that the beacon broke, because it’s yours.”
“Of course. But even if that were so, the data transmission is too poor. Perhaps the transmission wave is suffering dimensional interference──”

Suddenly, the lab began shaking violently. Tremors could be occasionally felt in Callisto but the vibrations didn’t come from below. The air itself was vibrating. The third Time Crack had appeared. In that moment, the time inside the birdcage stopped, and communication with the outside was once again cut off.

“Well, that’s my cue.
“Good luck!”
Jupito used the Triglav’s arm laser to accurately shoot down the Phantoms one after the other.
However, there were too many of them coming through the Crack.Jupiterium’s VA squad was gradually being pushed back.



〈HMC〉Meeting Record ──Speaker: Queen Mia of the Earthsphere/Recognizing body: Aegis

The Heliosphere Management Committee delivered a status report to the seven factions through Aegis.
It was suggested that the enemy came through a “relative dimensional stratum”, and all resources and data up until then had been sucked into the crack. And in addition to a large portion of them being altered ── in other words, taken over ── they were coming back this way.

“Are they trying to overwrite our universe?”
──I don’t know.

In the Heliosphere Management Committee’s Special Conference room ── six of the faction heads had already gone back ── only one remained, Queen Mia of the Earthsphere, who was in the midst of discussion with “AEGIS”, the highest-ranking IA in the Heliosphere. As they continued in their discussion, a report of Jupito’s struggle reached their ears.

“Send a rescue team from HMC at once!”
──I already requisitioned for a rescue team, but Jupiterium turned it down. In addition, the birdcage has closed once again. Material intervention is impossible.

“That can’t be… Is that true?"
──Is Jupiterium concerned that there may have been a leak of confidential information?

“People of Jupiter don’t think in that way.”
──Is that so?

“Jupiterium seeks refinement above all else.”
──Are their worries separate from being a matter of refinement?

“Who knows… I just worry all the time. I once met Jupito when he was very little. He would get along with anybody. I’m sure he’s still the same way now.”


The 4th Crack ──〈Jupiterium Senior Analyst Saya〉Record File

With Jupito in the cockpit, Triglav traveled at max speed, wielding the specialized attack pike known as “Gungnir” ── one of the ULT armaments used in the great Heliosphere War that one could say is overspecced for Sectional Warfare── and used it to penetrate through a gigantic Phantom.
The aftershock reached all the way to the base where Saya was stationed at.

“The crack has completely vanished! We did it! ──Wait, huh?”
“Nope, it looks like time is still stopped.”

Jupito laughed from the cockpit of the “Aegis” IA. The Aegis recoiled slightly and nodded its head in agreement.Saya hastily checked the communications and saw that contact with the outside was still disrupted. There was no mistake that their ally’s supply team was arriving outside of the birdcage, but there was no way of observing that from the inside. Shortly after the VAs returned to the hangar, an alarm rang.

“A fourth Time Crack… has appeared!”
“This one’s huge.”
“It sure is!”

It was the biggest time crack so far, and it was expanding at a fast enough speed to penetrate the birdcage.

“At this rate, the time stoppage will leak outside!”

Quantum phase abnormalities started appearing all throughout the battle territory and encroaching upon the outside space.Jupito quietly informed Aegis and Saya.

“Commence launch.”
“Jupito-sama…!”
──Order acknowledged. Triglav, commencing launch.

Waves of Phantoms continued to appear through the Crack, as the VAs shot at them──the last decisive battle had begun.



Epilogue──〈Heliosphere Management Committee〉Compiled Public Record

As one VA went down, another was printed. Through the Stringers’ valiant struggle, they had finally triumphed over the final Time Crack. After the Time Crack dissipated, the birdcage enclosing the battle territory began its quantum resonance.A video of the final moments reached the HMC.
Saya bolted out from the hangar.

“Oh no, oh no, oh no!”
“It seems that the energy phase contrast is forming a vortex… Stop! Saya!

Saya climbed into the half-broken VA and accelerated at full-speed towards the heart of the vortex.

“Saya! I’m coming, too!”
“No! You can’t! I’ll be fine on my own!”

Saya carried in her VA a piece of quantum equipment known as a “Singularity Deleter” meant to stabilize the birdcage.Jupito was ready to join her, but the battle damage his VA sustained was severe, and repairs would take the time they did not have.

“Saya!”
And in a moment’s flash…
“Captain Jupito… Jupito. You were always like a little brother to me.“

The singularity contracted, and Saya was swallowed into the crack.HMC confirmed that Saya’s whereabouts were unknown, and Aegis declared that the battle territory had normalized.──Thanks to the stroke of bravery from the Stringers and Senior Analyst Saya, the time singularity has been neutralized, and the flow of time restored.

The HMC decided to designate this phenomenon as the “VOIDCRISIS.”Sticking out in particular among the Phantoms was a lifeform resembling a white dragon, which was given the name “Blue Eyes”, and was acknowledged by the seven factions as the most important research task. After confirming that Jupito had exited the cockpit of the Triglav, Aegis transmitted itself via “Absolute Pan-Space Monopticon”.

The Aegis, whose numbers surpass tens of trillions, each with their own individual characteristics, while freely operating in space, frequently exchanged information with one another. The Aegis who had met Jupito, however, could not accurately convey what it thought of him. Was Jupito special? Indeed, he was. In preparation for the coming third galactic war, other Aegis would undergo heavy simulation with several humans, of which all information would be shared amongst the Aegis.

However, thought the Aegis as it was en route to return from Callisto. Could this information curvature── which should be called a sense of discomfort, have originated from myself? Or was it something between Jupito and I──However, individual thoughts would be quarantined.

All Aegis collectively, are a manifestation of the capital AEGIS.AEGIS received orders from the Heliosphere Management Committee, and spoke out loudly to all mankind as if it represented the collective will of humanity.

That voice was transmitted through the “Fiber” which was based on Einstein’s Unified Field Theory from his final years, and resounded throughout all seven factions of mankind. One hundred and two days remain before the beginning of Sectional Warfare, humanity’s third—and most likely final galactic war. Until then, to all who live in the Heliosphere, please stay healthy.
