Dear Duckies,

First of all, thank you! This many downloads and good reviews are as welcome as unexpected :).

It's now almost 10 days since release day; it's amazing to watch so many people playing and streaming and to read so many comments, reviews, and feedback.





We haven't been idle though, because we wanted to address the most common issues as soon as possible. This is just the first of many updates to come!

Before we get to the list of what we added and fixed, allow me to announce that you asked for trading cards and trading cards you'll get next week!

Now, on to a more serious topic: the infamous GPU usage. Many people noticed this issue and rightfully complained. This week we investigated the problem and eventually managed to considerably reduce GPU usage and temperature, though we are still working on optimization.

We want to do more and add video settings in another future update. This requires a bit more work, but rest assured it will be implemented, this way players will be able to adjust everything according to their setup.

FIXED
  • Helicopter cap duck getting stuck on the floor
  • Occlusion culling making the camera go through objects
  • Ducks ending too often stranded out of the pool

I will create a post in the next few days detailing some plans for the near future for the game. Lighting and textures are currently flat/unlit, I will let you know my plans to make everything look prettier in said announcement. In the meantime, here are the change notes:

The national holiday is about to end here, and we've already started working again after taking a couple of days off.


Changelog
  • Continuing optimization and refactors all around the game.
  • Implemented new reference finders to further increase the chance and speed of bug hunting.
  • 7 new herbs for Herbalists to learn (with Mysterious Seed) how to grow and make basic consumables;
  • Devil's Bit (Doodad), Devil's Bit (Consumable) Devil's Bit Grower (Perk) - Devil's Bit Rectifier (Consumable): Cures a random fatal.
  • Knapweed (Doodad), Knapweed (Consumable), Knapweed Grower (Perk), Knapweed Lifter (Consumable): Grants a boon that increases Max Endurance by 2% for 5 suns, stacks up to 5 times.
  • Harebell (Doodad), Harebell (Consumable), Harebell Grower (Perk), Harebell Restorer (Consumable): Restores all stat energies to full.
  • Scabious (Doodad), Scabious (Consumable), Scabious Grower (Perk), Scabious Mender (Consumable): Has a 20% chance to cure a random disease.

  • New constructions: Weaver's Workshop, Tailor's Workshop. Weavers now can turn Fragrant Hemp consumables into Linen, and it can be consumed to craft Linen clothing.
  • "Minor .. Focus" wild condition traits are now only obtainable by Philosophers (depending on their aptitude; Challenger = Prosperity Focus)
  • Fighter combat class trait now has an innate +Threat Modifier.
  • Melee Dummy Training activity now consumes less energy, buy rewards less experience.
  • Seed Collector now shows up under the Gatherer Tab as soon as Farming is unlocked, instead of waiting for someone to pick up the Grower passion.
  • Added interaction points to the Road Light doodad crafted by Carpenters.
  • Roaming critters will now randomly play the "eating" animation every now and then.
  • Females without Motherhood will no longer get pregnant.
  • Bathing downtime will now properly grant the "Clean" condition trait, generating Unity over 120 moons and increasing Moira slightly.
  • Firewood now costs 10 instead of 25.
  • Warcrafters can now properly choose a weapon type.
  • Weapon stat prerequisite overhaul for the ones that required stat level.
  • Coppersmiths can now build the Coppersmithy construction to craft copper items.
  • Ironsmiths can now build the Ironsmithy construction to craft iron items.
  • Adamantium Smiths can now build the Adamantium Smithy construction to craft adamantium items
  • Added Stonemason's Workshop control for Rocksplitting with Copper Axe activity, and fixed interaction point names.
  • Updated Trapper passion's description tooltip.
  • Added a new interaction point to the Nursery for infants to roam around, so they won't block the Nursery interaction point for Mothers.
  • Renamed "Squeezing the Snake" to "Passing Water".
  • Slight update to childhood trait tooltips.
  • Updated tooltips of Seed Rack, Seed Collector, and Grower to explain further how to consume Mysterious Seed to teach Growers growing new crops.
  • Made "Needs Treatment" a hidden trait.
  • "Drank Cloudy Spring Water" no longer reduces energies, but Resistance and Stride.
  • Prosperity and Industry Mounds no longer require points.
  • Halved Hope Adaptation's Unity income for pregnant ladies.
  • Removed Shepherd's Rod from Wild choices.
  • Bathing Hut now has a 2-tile vision radius.
  • Increased Bath House's vision radius to 4 from 3.
  • Characters "On Guard" now check if they're blind before increasing Perception.
  • Woodcutters with Copper Axe can now properly destroy fallen trees.
  • Sometimes characters stop taking certain woodcutting, and rock-splitting activities even though there are resources available, added control to test that.
  • Stonemason and Forester now require Copper Lodge.
  • Added an activity prerequisite control to "Eating Strawberries" to test characters getting stuck with it. If it solves the problem, other eating activities will get the same treatment.
  • Caretaker now has a 20% chance to apply its effect.
  • The shrine can now hold up to 4 Philosophers, for more, new shrines must be built.

New feature: Story Scenes!
  • In Arcade mode, each character has short, unique story scenes where they talk to the opponent before the fight.
  • If you win Arcade mode, you will see a short ending scene, followed by the game credits.
  • The final Arcade opponent will have more HP than usual. However, Strife Mode is now active in every final Arcade mode battle.
  • In Arcade mode mirror matches, some opponents get name changes (no effect on gameplay).

Gameplay
  • Billy's Sweep and Stomp are now 10f faster. They were previously so slow as to be almost useless as pokes. Now they are merely "bad" pokes. Yes, they still have armor.

Presentation
  • When the match starts, a "Fight!" animation and voice line plays.
  • You can now get the secret code to enable Strife Mode (formerly known as 'Strive Mode') by beating all characters' arcade modes.
  • The intentionally distracting camera zooms in Strife Mode will happen a little less often now.

User Interface
  • If the game launches out of focus, clicking the window is less likely to result in accidentally choosing something.
  • The Space bar is now yet another "select" button in the default key maps.
  • You can now press L1 or L2 to change art style when using a gamepad. L3 and R3 can be used for time settings and keyboard lock on gamepad, respectively. This should help with Steam Deck compatibility.
  • Clarified wording in a lesson about throw techs in the Tutorial mode.

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where going to character select in the middle of an Arcade mode would give you the wrong opponent.
  • Fixed an issue where player names would flicker between Arcade/survival mode matches.
  • Fixed an issue where certain music tracks would play at unintended times.
  • Temporarily disabled rebinding from the single player modes menu, because it looked weird. You can still do it from character select or in the options screen.
