Hi Everyone,

First off, I would like to thank everyone who has played and helped improve the Demo over the last 10 months. So many great ideas and quality of life improvements have come from your participation, and I cannot thank you all enough!

What's Next?

Going forward, I hope you all will continue to provide your suggestions. I don't have all the answers, and I love hearing ideas. Even if I cannot use the idea, it sometimes sparks great alternatives.

Game Versions

There will be a "testing branch" and a "default branch."

The default branch is what everyone on Steam gets by default when they download updates. I will endeavor to keep this branch super stable and not break save games. This version will update less often but will be more stable.

The testing branch is for the bold who want to take a more active role in development. This branch will have bugs, and I will need your help finding them. Clanfolk has a massively complex and interconnected code base, and I need people to play the game in their own way to find these bugs. The testing branch will update more often and there will tend to be a lot of tuning and experimentation.

The Demo has been a 10 month testing branch :)

The testing branch will be available under the Betas tab in your Steam Library when selecting Clanfolk.

The Roadmap

Below is an idea of what I am currently prioritizing. Please keep in mind that Clanfolk's development has always been quite dynamic. Priorities change and new ideas surface. So this road map is not set in stone and the order may change, but as of right now these are the high level items that I want to tackle the most.

Year 2 and Beyond

Right now the first 2 years are a very solid experience. A big part of Early Access will be developing the long term challenges for year 2+

After 2 years, if your Clan survives, your homestead will be in very good shape, and I want to start adding more events to the world to modify day to day life. Here is a current list of ideas that I am sure will be expanded on. I would love to hear your ideas on this too.

Modding

Modding is going to be a very important feature in Clanfolk's development. The modding tools will come online over time as the code base settles. Right now, my main focus is on making the base game as stable as possible, but as I move more into content creation, then modding becomes more viable without breaking modders' works.

Modding will consist of three phases.

1: Art modding.
This is the simplest to implement and will come first. This will be used to test Workshop support as well. This would be for example changing how in game items and units look, but not adding new functionality to them.

2: Item/Object Chain Modding
I have been building Clanfolk with this in mind, but I will probably need to provide a tool to make this viable outside of Unity. This is the creation of an entirely new set of Objects that form a process to create Items.

Modded Code (Stretch Goal)
So this I currently do not have experience with but will be consulting with modders to try to enable the possibility. So I can only list this as a maybe right now. This would be a mod of the form that changes something fundamental about how a game system works.

The addition of modding will take time as it is critical that I build a strong foundation within the base game to support robust modding. This means do not expect it within the next few months as I am adding major content and systems to the base game.

Keeping you in the Loop

I plan to post regular development logs about what I have been working on, what I am prioritizing next, and how things are generally going. These logs will provide a glimpse of what has been happening for the people not on the testing branch.

Two Way Communication

I really do want to hear your ideas and hear about your triumphs and struggles in Clanfolk. If something is frustrating you, please let me know, and I will try to fix it. Clanfolk should be a relaxing experience, and you should not have to fight the game to find it.

Nova Lands - mr. Kink


Hey there!

We’re happy to announce that Nova Lands will participate in a fantastic game music festival, Save & Sound! This festival showcases how game devs create in-game OST and atmospherics. There will be 70+ game titles, including yours truly!

Nova Lands soundtrack was composed by Glauber Barretto, who composed a video that will provide you with details of his inspiration and approach during his work on the soundtrack.

Save & Sound festival goes from July 14 - 18 on Steam, YouTube, and Twitch. Nova Lands soundtrack entry will air on July 17, 2022, at 10 AM PDT / 7 PM CEST!

Sweet Surrender VR - niklas.wachter
Hey everyone,

We are happy to announce that Sweet Surrender’s beta branch is now updated with a preview of our next major update: Into the Sewers! You can take a first look at our completely new district and all the new content that hides within. Here are some of the new features you can expect to find in the Sewers:
  • New acid themed mechanics; Burn through your enemies or protect yourself from their corrosive attacks
  • A completely new district spread across two hidden levels
  • New grenade and chip types, revolving around the new acid features
  • New enemy types, which you will only encounter in this secret area

We also introduced a couple of quality-of-life features requested by the community:
  • Save and Quit (at the start of each level you can now save and quit the game to continue at a later point)
  • Cloud Saves
  • LIV support

Since this is only the beta preview of the update, everything is still subject to change. However it should still give you a good idea on what the final release will look like and you can already try out all the new features.

Alongside this, various improvements have been made for the ultimate soothing powerwashing experience:
  • Fixed numerous potential crashes related to multiplayer with 3+ players transitioning between jobs
  • Fixed desynchronization issues in multiplayer
  • Wash data transfer between players reduced
  • Free Play and Special modes will now only allow a single level in progress and single timelapse to be stored at any single point (This should help with Steam Cloud Syncing issues. Our save files were just too big!)
  • Load time when launching the app considerable improved
  • Performance improvements
  • Controller vibration option added
  • Japanese font & text updates
  • Many multiplayer stability improvements
  • Subtask price and threshold changes on various levels
  • Balls added to the Minigolf job (par-tee time!)
  • Urban X colour changes
  • Many minor UI bug fixes

Reset subtasks:
We also really wanted to preserve players save data this time and didn't want to do any auto-complete. However, any levels-in-progress which you are carrying into 1.0 from an Early Access release will have the dirt on partially-completed subtasks reset. This will ensure there are no save clashes and you don't get stuck on an uncleanable object. Sorry for the slight inconvenience!

Our in-game locations function in a similar manner, but thankfully you'll have a chance to prepare. Eventually you'll master figuring out where to find people looking for the juiciest burger, a proper Italian pizza, a delicious Belgian potato treat or Japanese rolled rice.

SERENITY PARK
You'll begin your adventure in Serenity Park. It's here that you'll take your first steps on your culinary journey, following in the path of your father, serving real beef treats.



Always remember what your clients demand! Time, doneness and order precision are key.
The calm atmosphere of the appropriately-named Serenity Park will ease you into your new grand adventure.



NIGHT CLUBS
It's said that those who do not try cooking for a whole bunch of others do not know what true work really means. Doubly so if it's in the middle of the night.



The next selling point on your journey - the Night Clubs - will teach you how to prepare true potato delicacies - fries.

Fries History Fact time - fries were apparently invented in the XVIII century in a Belgian town named Dinant during a cold winter. The rivers of the nearby river were frozen over, and without fish people instead began peeling potatoes into small boat-shapes while frying them to try and replace the fish.



Thankfully, fries are no longer fish replacements and have evolved into something that truly pleases the taste buds. Just like with the burger, time, doneness and ingredients are all key.

BUSINESS PARK
There's no relaxing in the Business Park, and thus "time is money" takes on a whole different meaning.



Regularly schedule lunch breaks guarantee a rush hour of hungry clients and their work stress hardly makes things better.

The different tastes here are far, far wilder than before, and thus it is here you will learn the secrets of sushi-making.

Here, live follows its own rhythm. Here, you can slow down and catch your breath - but don't stop too long.
