Howdy, tactics fans! I've got the next player campaign showcase recorded; I'll be uploading it in the new few days. In the meantime, though, here's version 1.0.29!

For this patch, we've got some more bug fixes (including fixes to a couple of AI issues), plus some fixes that should help to promote greater roster flexibility in custom campaigns:

-- fixed: you could undo after using an item.

-- fixed: characters couldn't grab aura out of item sacks if their inventories were full.

-- fixed: the game would preserve save slot 100 as the last-used save slot when testing campaigns in the editor.

-- fixed: the AI was applying a score bonus for backstabbing and avoiding a counterattack to otherwise-useless moves (like shoving a target onto an ordinary space without any elevation change), sometimes leading the AI to choose these moves.

-- fixed: if a character burned/drowned to death at the start of the AI's turn and the first character chosen to move was a healer, the AI would sometimes proceed with a move to heal the just-perished character, resulting in them shielding an empty space.

-- fixed: the game was sometimes detecting infinite loops when in fact the scripts had all simply finished running normally.

-- the game now recognizes character portraits belonging to the current speaker when using a script ID reference for the speaker name in dialogue.

-- fixed: recruiting a character via script ID or name rather than load ID during a cut scene was not working.

-- hotfix in 1.0.29a: in some rare situations, the AI could get into an endless loop and never end its turn.

-- hotfix in 1.0.29a: dialogue set to end immediately that triggered a Wait script action would inappropriately display the dialogue menu while the Wait action was pending. (This occurred most noticeably during the Coria Dogs Basement battle.)

On another note, we love EVE Online, so it should not come as a surprise to anyone that the average logon time among all players who participate in the CSM elections is a little over 178 days. It is awesome to see such a continued unwavering passion over the years from you <3

The next few weeks and even months are going to be dedicated to the onboarding of all CSM members. It is an important period where we will go over all the ground rules and ensure we are on the same page in terms of expectations from one another. Therefore, even if the new council is in immediate effect, please be reasonable with your requests and understand that it may take a few weeks before everyone is up to speed.

Cepheus Protocol - Halcyon Winds
Operator Convert to 3rd Person [Community Opinion]
As many have noticed the Operator has been untouched since December. We believe that it would be in our best interest for the longevity of the project to convert the Operator to a third person system based on the resources that are available to our team.

Long term wise we would mirror the 3rd person behind Division/WWZ and allow shoulder switching and all the normal requirements of the genre.

Here is a shortlist of the pros that we have earmarked by switching.

1. We have one animator and making the switch will allow us to give the operator access to all weapons based on the fact that the Operator should now be using our third person rig.
2. New Weapons would be easier to push to the Operator in general
3. It would simplify the process involved in allowing you to customize the Operator in regards to spending ability points which allow you to pick and choose what abilities they use. Which because we share the same 3P rig we can utilize the CERC unit abilities seamlessly.
4. More resources can be put into the RTS aspects of development since the entire process would be greatly simplified by making this switch.
5. We would also use this new "Operator" in a limited coop mode strictly between Operators in a Horde/Merceries type mode. This would be the first logical step towards full coop implementation

Skullgirls 2nd Encore - hiddenjesse


In classic Skullgirls tradition, Black Dahlia will arrive in an unfinished state with some work-in-progress "sketchy" frames. Keep an eye out for frequent updates during this Playable Alpha as we bring her closer to completion!

HOW COMPLETE IS BLACK DAHLIA?


Dahlia still has a long way to go until full completion, but she still has a large percentage of her planned kit functionally integrated. There are a few things worth noting before you play her:

  • One of Dahlia’s major unique features is her ability to load different ammo types into her gun. To begin with this will only have 3 types of ammo implemented, but there’ll be more coming in the near future. Her method of loading ammo is also still a work in progress and subject to change at any time - don't get to attached to how it works currently! She will also get several more Special Moves and Blockbusters as time goes on.
  • Most of Dahlia’s animations are still unfinished and uncolored sketchy frames. Some of her VFX like explosions and sparks are colored, but these are still temporary and will change in the future.
  • While Dahlia has some voice work and general sound effects implemented, she is far from complete. Expect many more voice lines and updates to the sound effects already available.
  • Her visuals and existing toolkit will all get a general tuning and improvements over the coming months.

HOW TO SELECT BLACK DAHLIA


Characters in their Alpha phase are currently only available to Season 1 Pass holders. If you don't own the Season 1 Pass DLC, you won't be able to use Black Dahlia yet. You can pick up the Season 1 Pass here:

Once you have the Season 1 Pass DLC, launch the game in BETA mode by pressing the green PLAY button on Skullgirls 2nd Encore from your Steam library page, then selecting "Skullgirls Beta (Black Dahlia Alpha)". You can also launch the game in BETA mode by navigating to the in-game Options menu, and pressing "Switch To Beta".

In BETA mode, you can pick Dahlia on the character select screen as normal!

WHEN CAN I BUY HER DLC SEPARATELY?


Once Black Dahlia’s Alpha phase is over, her individual character DLC will go live in Early Access on the Steam store. This will allow you to play Dahlia during her Early Access Beta phase without owning the Season 1 Pass.

A character's Alpha phase is over once they have voice acting integrated, unique sound effects, and all of their attack animations fully complete.



WHEN WILL BLACK DAHLIA BE FULLY RELEASED?


Dahlia is slated to have her full release on Steam, PS4 and Mobile in 2022. The final character in the Season 1 Pass will follow in 2023.

The Season 1 Pass is currently available on PS4. Dahlia will join Annie and Umbrella later this year alongside her Full Release.

SWITCH & XBOX ONE / SERIES X
We are actively developing Skullgirls 2nd Encore and the Season 1 Pass as an update for the Switch and as a new release for Xbox One & Xbox Series X. Although we can’t confirm a release date at this time, we are currently targeting later this year!

NON-DAHLIA RELATED CHANGES



There’s a few updates also included in this update that generally improve the stability of the game:

  • Added a new Photosensitivity Warning on game start-up. This is not related to any new additions, but refers existing flashing imagery that has always been there, like the white flash during SHOWTIME at round start.
  • Fixed a bug where some lobby related text wouldn't appear correctly. (Ex: NewType36)
  • Addressed some localization and translation errors.
  • Improved stability when switching audio devices on Windows to mitigate crashes.
  • Fixed a bug where the laughter sound when landing a "Happy Birthday" KO would sometimes be cut off in certain situations.
  • Implemented some minor UI control improvements for the Art Gallery screen.
  • Fixed some bugs related to Quick Match after the recent multiplayer refactor.
  • Fixed a bug where a lobby region would not update to match the current host's region if the previous host left.
  • Fixed a bug where UI related to "Play Again" would appear briefly in a "Queen Of The Hill" lobby if there were only two players in it.
