Hello Heisters,

A small hotfix for some problems we found after yesterday's update.

  • Fixed unintended contractor being visible in contract database
  • Fixed unintended modification possibility on the MP40 where the medved R4 suppressor could be equipped
  • Fixed an issue where the Medved R4 suppressor would crash on multiple single variants of SMGs. Some akimbo versions remain to be addressed
  • Fixed an issue where controller support for ranking up using the new infamy pool system didn't function
  • Potential fix for a crash when using Viper grenades on certain heists

Updates may be incompatible with the mods you may have installed. Even seemingly unrelated mods may cause unexpected issues. If you are experiencing any issues with the game; try removing any mods you may have installed and try again.

If you are having issues with an unmodded game you can try to verify the integrity of the game files. In the steam library; right click on PAYDAY 2. Select "Properties" from the menu. Under the tab "LOCAL FILES" select "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES...".
The process may take some time to finish.

It's time for your final debrief hunters!

By now you should know what dangers are out there in Dystokio. The ferocious SoNS will stop at nothing until all of humanity is wiped out. Thankfully, you're not alone and have your vehicles to help you get by and launch a counterattack on the machines.

We've taught you how to make the ultimate fighting machine, now it's time we teach you how to use it.

Taking the Initiative

You'll have plenty of options for how you approach a battle, and providing you have equipped your fleet accordingly, getting the drop on an enemy with a pre-emptive strike is usually the best way to start a fight. Some weapons, like long-barrel cannons, will have impressive range, and you can aim down the sights to fire your opening barrage.



Turn-based Tactics

In line with the other titles in the series, METAL MAX Xeno Reborn also features turn-based combat. An ATB gauge for each party member will gradually fill up in the bottom right UI, indicating when you'll next be able to act again. Each hunter can then choose between a range of options such as Attack, Skills, Item, Guard, or even cycle between the driver and vehicle's abilities.



Each party member can freely enter and exit their vehicle during combat. When fighting in a vehicle you'll have access to that vehicle's full complement of weaponry and trait chips. When fighting on foot you will be much more vulnerable but will be able to use melee weapons and unique personal skills. Take Talis for example who has a mechanical left arm that can be used to deal some serious damage!

Be careful when resorting to close combat as many SoNS are just as deadly up close. Some machines can even explode upon death so being up close and personal may not always be the best course of action.

Combat Spacing

Flanking both on foot or in a vehicle with your party members is an excellent way of disrupting an enemy's attack pattern. Most high-powered SoNS will try and hit you with attacks that have a wide area of effect. To avoid having your entire party defeated by a single shot, make sure that you pay attention to spacing!

Fully Automatic!

You'll also have the option to turn on Auto-Fire. This brilliant new mechanic allows for continuous fire whether you're on foot or in a vehicle. Auto-Fire will use the last command selected unless that weapon has run out of ammo or is destroyed.

Using Auto-Fire means that hunters will have free range of movement to better position themselves, making flanking enemies even easier without disrupting the flow of combat.



Optimizing Equipment

Another helpful tip is to ensure that your party is equipped with the right weaponry. Some SoNS will be weak to certain elements or types of damage. Pay attention to the hardware and equipment that you scavenge out in the wastes, and modify your loadouts to fit the fight. You can also craft new weapons back at Iron Base, so make sure to check back regularly to see what deadly armaments are available.

It's Simon again, Lead Game Designer on Have a Nice Death.
Are you ready for summer? Any vacations scheduled? (Death will be jealous)

Firstly, thank you everyone for your understanding with the delay of our last content update. It was a tough choice on our side but we ultimatetly decided we prefered for you to have a good experience without too many bugs than deliver on time but not optimal. We are commited so it doesn't have to happen again.

Also, more thanks for enthusiams and feedback about this upate. More and more of you are giving us interesting and important feedback. Thanks to our CM Marleine and our devoted moderators on Discord, our team has listened to what you felt could be improved. Althought a lot of it was already in the works.

What we noticed from you on this update:
  • You love LEON CLEAN
  • CAMILLE FLAGE is finally here (but maybe too easy for some of you)
  • You like ANIMAs now (but they might be too many)
  • JOCELYN is way too nice with you
  • You enjoy the new dialogs
  • YOU WANT EVEN MORE ATTACKS FOR SEVERAL THANAGERS
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE, as the next update will tackle a lot of this. Again, i won't go into too many details but here's our plan for the next update:


REBALANCING
We are very aware of the INFUSE Mana build and the fact that a lot of spell combos are ABSURD, or that Sacrifix / Vladislaw are way too powerful. We also feel that many cloak weapons are not as strong as some spell, but mainly because of multi hit or cooldown. Then, we know that now there are a lot more HEALING options and it makes the game way easier. We knew the introduction of the anima fountain and the GREEDY ANIMA system would make it easy to always have some healing but we figured since we were maybe a bit too harsh on release, we wanted to be nice to you... AT LEAST FOR ONE PATCH.


SORROWS / THANAGERS
The last subject about balancing are the Sorrows / Thanagers. You have pointed out that Camille felt too easy for a W5 miniboss and it is not wrong but there is a underlying issue. It is not that Camille is weak, it is that the PLAYER is way too strong. I promise you if you fight Camille with no weapons and curses, she will kick you butt. But you are right, the later fights are less challenging to the nature of roguelike progression so we will look into this.


NEW CONTENT
As you probably guessed on our last roadmap, the next update is about food! We are really happy about the feeling and the enemies of this new department. We hope you won't get any acid reflux. The next bit of info about this new content is that we will polish a lot of elements to give you a better general feeling.

We can't wait to release the next content update, but meanwhile there's still some work (and meetings!!) to do.

Shakes and Fidget - DarkwingDang Playa Games
Reevaluation is a major part of game design. Sometimes game features simply do not work out as intended. Over the time we observed the existing classes of the Shakes & Fidget world and we have the feeling that some of them seem to be a bit underwhelming compared to other classes in the game.

While we are comparing all classes against each other we take all aspects into account to decide if and which changes need to be made for each class. The goal is to get a fair and balanced gaming experience, no matter which class you chose when starting to play the game. To achieve this, we consider both, tweaking classes which are considered to be weak to be more competitive but at the same time we may consider to weaken overpowered classes.

You may ask yourself if all classes will be changed at the same time. This is unlikely to happen. On one hand this is due to resources which would be blocked by working on a complete class overhaul and would then be missing for other important tasks. On the other hand, we need to see which influence a class rebalancing will have on all aspects of the game. Changing all classes at the same time would simply be too risky in this regard. Frankly spoken, there is no defined timeline or order of classes to be rebalanced.

When speaking of classes to be rebalanced and the impact on the game itself, we may consider to look at companions as well. It may very well be that we will touch companions at a later point of time but we would need to observe which influence the main class rebalancing has on the game first.

Of course, before launching a rebalanced class, it will be tested to see if the rebalancing will be fair and fitting the gameplay at all. We are using some tools which will help us to understand which impact a class overhaul may have in general. But in addition, we would like to get feedback from experienced players as well. Thus, for each rebalanced class, we will open the beta server for a specific period of time to collect data but also to give you the chance to provide feedback and let us know how you feel about the rebalancing in general.

The first week of testing the rebalanced Demon Hunter on our beta server is over and we already got some valuable feedback from you guys. Thank you very much for your past and future contributions.

Our Character Art Process + Inspirations

John DeRiggi, Lead Character Artist, shares a bit about the character art process:

Heart Machine has a history of creating vibrant, colorful worlds that often deviate from current games. True to this goal, Hyper Light Breaker characters are inspired by traditional cel animation like Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli combined with a watercolor painting approach. Hopefully you can see this in the concepts and 3D models of the Melee Wretch and Leaper enemies.

A key ingredient here is the character’s material and its reaction to light. Games can sometimes use materials included with a game engine but often a custom material is needed to achieve the game’s artistic vision. Since graphics programmers and technical artists create the code behind materials, a custom material from scratch requires their time.

Because we are still a smaller studio, our technical resources are often constrained, and we could not devote this larger chunk of custom material time on Breaker. We are therefore using a new material on the Unreal Engine Marketplace, called Stylized Rendering System. This gives us the base for our cel-shaded look in various light and shadow conditions.

Our character art team can then customize this material and create our cel-shaded, watercolor look with a combination of hand-painted and procedural textures in Substance 3D Painter. This tool allows us to paint like traditional artists in 3 dimensions on a sculpture but do so digitally in our intended style goals for Breaker. When these textures combine with the cel-shaded material properties, we are able to achieve a really fun result!

What’s up Next?

On the rigging / animation side, we’ll be sharing soon what Chris Bullock, Lead Animator, and his team worked based on these characters, all the decisions and trade-offs that had to be considered. Stay tuned!

Sinister Night - sinisternightgame
Hello everyone! In the last update, we shared an introduction of Dorothy The Nun. Today, we would like to introduce another character, Betty. Hope you will love Betty as much as we do.

As an orphan in the church school, she was sensitive and delicate. Like many of her classmates, she did not get much family care in her childhood. Fortunately, while she was growing up, Dorothy, the gentle and kind nun, accompanied her. She was like a big sister to her and took good care of her. She was Betty’s favorite person in the school. If Dorothy was unhappy, Betty would give her the most beautiful flowers only to cheer her up.

However, things changed and people changed. The relationship between Betty and Dorothy was doomed. Out of trust and respect for Dorothy, Betty helped her deliver the Holy Water to the priest. It turned out that the holy water was fake, as a consequence of which, people who participated in the sacrifice were cursed. Their skin began to fester, and their teeth began to fall out as well as their hair. Betty's kindness turned into a tragedy.

"The Holy Water is fine! Dorothy handed it to me herself." Betty said firmly.

"I'm sorry, Betty. I gave you the Holy Water myself. Why did it go wrong when you gave it to the priest?" Dorothy's response was so cold.



Rumors were saying that Betty was Satan's child. Being an outsider and an orphan became her original sin at this moment, and Dorothy, her beloved sister, also didn't trust her. In the end, Betty was burned alive on the altar.

Betty was so desperate that she became a wraith. She would never relate the person who cared about her so much to the person who killed her.



Betty is hiding somewhere in the school, so stay alert, or Betty will jump at you when least expected.



People see Betty as a terrifying wraith, but all she wants to say is that, she is innocent and she hopes everyone can trust her. The best proof is that she never hurt anyone who enters the school.
