New default settings have been modified to allow for improved visuals and/or performance. Shadows, Foliage and a new View Distance setting have the most effect on both.
Level streaming may cause some visual issues when loading new areas. This will be improved over time.

Back again with another weekly update!
This week I focused a lot on Great-weapon game play and skills. They've needed some love for a while and I finally got around to improving them!

The newest addition to the great-weapon lineup are Ultraswords! These babies are slow and heavy, but pack a huge punch. Seriously, these weapons can send enemies flying.
Also, check out this ridiculously overpowered stab move. It's awesome.

Along with various new great-weapon skills, I also made huge improvements and optimizations on world spawning system. This new system allows me to easily specify spawn rates for wildlife, enemies and friendlies throughout various open world areas. Since the player will have an effect on the world around them, I needed a system that would allow the player to dynamically modify spawn rates of certain enemies and events. For example, if the player tends to allow Undead Rituals to complete in an area, that will influence the spawn rate for Undead enemies and events in the future. The system I had made previously wasn't too accepting of this system and made it difficult to dynamically change. With this new system, that is no longer a problem! The world will now adapt to how the player treats the inhabitants of a given area. This of course will need lots more work and balancing, but the foundations are now solid enough to begin that process!

Other than the new spawning system, I really went crazy with Ultraswords and abilities that can be used with them and other great weaponry (Greathammers, Greatclubs, etc.)
I'm absolutely loving the feel of these weapons, especially with this Monster Hunter inspired skill!.

I'm also in the process of making Slime-themed weapon sets! These will be made of Slimemetal, which, as you can imagine, is made from Slimes! The color of these transparent weapons will vary depending on the slime you use!

Welcome to another edition of the Community Crunch!

Our next free expansion map, Fjordur, is right around the corner. On Sunday, June 12th, prepare to dive into Nordic-inspired adventure with 4 new creatures (Andrewsarchus, Fjordhawk, Desmodus, Fenrir) that are native to Fjordur!

Traverse a fantastical multi-layered wonderland with a frosty Nordic theme. Four unique islands, Vardiland, Vannaland, Bolbjord and Balheimr, and the mystical realms; Jotunheim, Vanaheim, and Asgard, offer elaborate cave systems resplendent with Scandinavian ruins and vast monolithic entrances.



Fjordur is the second community map released with completely new creatures, and the second to include another creature chosen by the ARK community. As we near closer to the launch date on June 12th, we'll be sharing more information regarding the timing of the rollout and servers!

On December 1st 2021 just 13 days before Lost Island released, my Dad passed away and it hit me hard. I wanted to honor him in ARK somehow so once Lost Island came out and i got on a community server, I built a memorial for my Dad on a little cliff just outside the castle in the Redwoods castle and placed the dermis of a Direwolf on top as he had a picture of a wolf on his computer that he took when me and him went to Yellowstone. Today would have been his birthday. Miss you Dad ❤️

  • Replaced bleeding countdown with pulsating skull of death animation
  • Updated stone tiers so that all rock types can be damaged by any pickaxe, but large tier differences have dramatic effects on the time it takes to mine
  • Set a weaker hit effect when trying to hit a high tier material with a weak pickaxe
  • Deposit range for hauling materials increased slightly to reduce issues with missed deposits
  • The first faction in Multiplayer now has a fixed spawn position until you put down the spawn point, instead of randomly spawning everyone
  • Holding E will now both deposit materials and start building in the same breath instead of requiring multiple successive presses
  • Ladders are now allowed to float
  • Moved wires and machined parts to toolbench
Bugfixes
  • Fixed NPCs sometimes failing to ledge grab when jumping straight up
  • Fixed issue with Plasteel research not kicking in
  • Fixed issue that caused the Canyon biome to be over-represented in world generation

  • Fixed NPCs getting confused by doors on top of 1 block high curbs
  • Fixed several issues that would cause NPCs to remain stuck trying to path through a closed door
  • Fixed doors hiding the player character’s ambient light
  • Fixed a long-standing issue that caused NPCs to overshoot the goal and make an extra hop through a nearby platform or ladder unnecessarily before getting to the finish point
  • Fixed issue that allowed players and NPCs to ledge grab at the bottom of a closed door that’s flush with the wall
  • Fixed issue that prevented NPCs from ledge grabbing a solid block from a ladder after traveling down the ladder
  • Fixed NPCs getting stuck on ladders while attempting to jump off a ledge
  • Fixed stuck/teleporting issue when falling onto a short ladder from a ledge
  • Fixed stuck/teleporting issue when jumping through a platform onto a short ladder
  • Fixed stuck/teleporting issue when jumping from ladder to a solid ledge
  • Fixed a number of issues that could cause NPCs to have their current order reset if hauling to a facility that’s completing orders

  • Added count check to raider mob group sound effects (>=2 raiders in mob)
