May? It is seriously the end of May already? 2022 is certainly on an express train in terms of how fast time is flying by! That said, we hope you are as ready for Summer as we are... and it is shaping up to be an action-packed Summer indeed! What all do we have in store? Well, time will tell - but let's kick things off the right way with our final State of the Game update before Summer 2022 is here in earnest!



PC - RE-LOGIC


CHICKEN BONES JOINS RE-LOGIC

As our team is preparing to embark on the journey that will be our second game, we realize that there are some gaps in the team's skillset that we would like to fill - as well as the overall need for more quality folks in general. With all of that in mind, it is with great pleasure that we formally announce that long-time Terraria modder and core tModLoader Team member Chicken Bones to the Re-Logic family!

Chicken Bones (CB for short) is well-known in the Minecraft modding community, and he has a long history with Terraria and modding in general. Coupled with a strong background on the Technical/Tooling side of the coding world (a big need for the team moving ahead!), he will be an invaluable addition to the team. He has already been working hard alongside our core team, with a current focus aimed primarily on the development of tModLoader and tModPorter. Once full work on our second title begins, he will be part of the core development team that will be responsible for bringing that all together!

Please join each of us in giving Chicken Bones a heart-felt welcome to Team Re-Logic!


TERRARIA - LABOR OF LOVE UPDATE

The Labor of Love update is getting really close to reaching the goals and vision that we have in mind for it. Does that mean we are ready to give you a launch date? Well, not just yet - but know that we are feeling like it is getting closer and closer... so not too much longer, we think. Why do we call this update Labor of Love? Well, in honor the award you all so graciously decided we were worthy of for one, but your support goes well beyond that. It has been a while since we gave a numbers update, and they are pretty staggering:

45 Million soon, and then... the road to FIFTY MILLION


That is just insane, everyone. It is this support - along with just how loyal and engaged each and every one of you are that enables us to be who we are and do what we do each and every day. To say it is humbling and amazing would be beyond an understatement. So, we will once again just say thank you - sincerely, thank you from the bottom of our heart. We don't take this lightly, and we really look forward to continuing to earn your support and trust in the years to come.

  • You can now exchange your pet by using another Pet License! (They can now be purchased infinitely from the Zoologist)
  • Summoning Moon Lord with the Celestial Sigil now has only a 12 second summoning period instead of 60 second
  • Reduced the crafting cost of Celestial Sigil from 20 of each fragment to 12
  • Hive Pack now increases the fire rate of the Hornet Summon and increases the damage and defense penetration of Wasp Gun

TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM



Hello everyone!

May was one of the most productive months for TML development in quite a while! There is so much going on behind the scenes as we push ever-closer towards the release of TML 1.4. Want all of the details? Read on!

As mentioned above, we have had our busiest month in a long time, having merged almost 60 code changes - nearly double a regular month! This is all thanks to a large push from every contributor and the TML Team, so that we could deliver 1.4 in time for 1.4.4.

On June 1st, we will be changing the default version of tModLoader from 1.3 to 1.4. To be clear, this is not intended to be a full feature-rich “launch”, but rather represents the substantial step of TML 1.4 leaving Alpha and moving into a formal Continuous Release Cycle.


The current 1.3 version will remain available in a Beta Branch on Steam in order to allow players to continue to use any mods that are or do not update to the 1.4 era. In addition, 1.4_soundfix, now known as "Sound Playback Reimplementation", has now been merged and we have eliminated the MergedTesting branch. This was holding up a few big mods, so hopefully, this will make life (and updating) easier for those teams!

Whew, that’s a lot of work done! Lots still to go… but the team is really enjoying the wave of momentum right now, excited to reach this key milestone with 1.4, and ready to get to work on what remains!


As always, you can keep track the current progress and such more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.)

Developers who are willing to contribute may do so by doing PRs to the tModLoader/tModLoader branch. (See tModLoader/tModLoader)

PARITY IS HERE - FOR NOW - BUT WHAT'S NEXT?!​

We spent much of the month of May with our heads down, focused on getting fixes for the 1.4.1 - 1.4.3 update out to everyone. As of now, these fixes should be in your hands on all platforms, with the possible exception of Switch/Stadia/Amazon, which are still pending review. Gold Renewal Update
  • Improvements to the Gold system have been made! For full details, check out the Gold Renewal Update dedicated webpost.
    • Gold no longer occupies your inventory space and is instead stored as a currency amount, similar to Ducats.
    • The maximum Gold limit that your character can hold is 1 million Gold. However, there are different ways to increase the maximum Gold limit.
      • One way is by using Gold Boxes and Special Gold Boxes as these items have been turned into a consumable object.
    • You can still withdraw Gold from your inventory.
    • Gold Pouch items have been removed the game.
    • Gold Purse items are now Item Bags.
The following changes have been made to the game:
  • The Mana Shield Enhancement Set Effect of the Elemental Harmony Gloves (M) and the Elemental Harmony Gloves (F) has been changed:
    • Before: Increases Magic Defense by 10 and Magic Protection by 8 when you use Mana Shield.
    • After: Increases Mana Shield's damage reduction per 1 MP by 0.30.
  • The Medium-sized Bag (5x5) can be purchased from the General Shop for 3,980 Gold.
  • "Defense Penetration" has been changed to "Armor Pierce" in the skill description for Axe Mastery, Crossbow Mastery, and Dual Wield Mastery skills.
The following bug fixes have been made to the game:
  • On May 19th, the character deletion issue and the log off issue were fixed.
  • The "Macaroon" recipe and food item name has been changed to "Macaron".
  • Enchanted Thread has been renamed back to Enchanted Thread after being accidently renamed Magical Golden Thread
  • The following Sewing Patterns have been fixed:

The following are known bugs:
  • There is an issue where you cannot Friend Summon using Fynn Pets. It will show the error, "Unavailable because the owner has opened a Personal Shop".
  • Some players' hotkeys and pet menu settings reset after logging out.
  • During the Kraken Rex boss fight, Kraken Rex will use an attack that will cause players to lose protection, semi-permanently, until they change channels or relog.
  • There is a typo in the Finishing Materials list when crafting the Dustin Silver Knight Greaves.
  • There is a known issue where some players are unable to obtain the G1 quest "Find Goro's Ring".
  • There is an issue where certain G3 cutscenes will not play, but still charge gold.
  • There is an issue where Homestead item information is overlapping.
  • There is an issue where the Today Visitor Count does not reset to 0. When a visiting character visits the Homestead, the Today and Total Count accumulates normally.
  • The available upgrades in the Item Upgrade may overlap in the UI if the window is increased.
  • Homestead Anvils and Furnaces have settings to allow visitors to use them, but do not actually restrict the use of the items.
  • There is a slight graphical error where part of the hose is missing when a William or Butler Partner uses the Water Hose gesture.
  • Some Partner gestures that have them holding a weapon will appear as though the weapon is disconnected and floating.
  • There are Partner gestures that do not activate when a Partner has something equipped in their left hand.
  • There is an issue after using the Thunder skill, the character can't charge Thunder again until after the Thunder bolt hits/damages enemies.
  • If you try to change your style to an appearance already saved in a Beauty Slot, it will say it failed.
  • There is a minor visual issue with the Beauty Slot text if you scroll up and down after expanding the Beauty Slot.
  • The outline color when clicking on an empty Beauty Slot is incorrect.
  • There is text cut-off in the Buy Item UI when buying the Royal Society Appreciation Box from Melwyn.
  • The inventory image for the Mace of Mercy is incorrect.
  • Feeding a Pet Instructor Stick to a Level 100 Spirit weapon will cause the character to freeze.
  • If you had a unicode heart on your wedding ring, the heart appears as a question mark.
  • The Shaggy Perm hairstyle can be saved in a Beauty Slot.
  • Cobweb Mummy enemies do not appear in the Alby Advanced Dungeon.
  • Guilds are not appearing in the Guild List.

Hello Survivors,

Our first update of 2022 is finally here. The Closed Alpha Update 0.8 will begin rolling out between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM Mountain Standard Time on May 26th, 2022. This update is for our Closed Alpha version of Dead Matter and will only be available to our Closed Alpha testers.

Just a quick note, we’ve decided to move 0.8 to the main branch download on Steam. This branch change means you won’t need to opt into 0.8 through the betas menu on Steam. Instead, 0.8 should automatically download if you are running the default version of Dead Matter.

If you’d like to return to the 0.6 build of the game, you can go into the game preferences on Steam and select the 0.6 legacy branch in the betas menu. That said, we recommend sticking to 0.8 as that branch will continue to be updated over the coming months and is indicative of the direction Dead Matter is taking.

Please read the release notes below. These notes are similar to the changelog we teased a couple of weeks ago, except for minor technical changes. Please read through these notes to learn about the changes in 0.8. We encourage you to test these features and report bugs using our in-game bug reporter or #bug-reports channel on our official Discord server.

Gameplay Features

Sleeping Bags

Sleeping Bags allow the player to create a unique spawn point. All you need to do is lay a sleeping bag down and rest in it. After that, when you die, you can select your sleeping bag location on the spawn map and spawn right there. Sleeping will also let you recover your lost energy. They are a useful and important item to find when you are trying to survive in Dead Matter.

Tents

Tents function as a large storage container. When you find a tent bag, you can carry and place it wherever you choose. You can then unpack the tent and set up your own storage area. Tents will be useful for creating makeshift bases around the rocky mountains.

Exshaw

A lot of work has gone into Exshaw for this update. We have revitalised some of the existing infrastructure including houses, streets, foliage, terrain, static vehicles, and more. Essentially, everything in Exshaw has been retouched and polished. In Exshaw, you will be able to explore several buildings and outdoor areas that contain various loot items like food, drinks, and weapons. Just be wary of the Infected.

We have also added a cave near Exshaw for players to find and explore. This cave has a small puzzle that players will need to solve in order to get through the gates. Who knows, maybe there’s some loot inside.

Multiplayer

A functioning dedicated multiplayer server is returning in 0.8. The current limit is 16 players. We will initially begin with one dedicated multiplayer server. Keep in mind that this is for testing purposes and not designed to be a complete multiplayer experience.

General Stability Improvements

  • We have addressed numerous small performance bugs from our 0.7.5 update.
  • We have also made several optimization improvements to increase the performance of Dead Matter across the board.
  • Various crash fixes involving the inventory and toolbelt system

  • Fixed HUD issue
  • Fixed various glitches associated with respawning

Gameplay Adjustments

  • Less fall damage from non-lethal heights
  • Loot spawn locations have been reworked
  • Improved drag and drop behaviour for pouch and inventory slots
  • Added blood splatter vignette
  • Added directional damage indicator
  • Medical containers will now prioritise useful items like bandages, painkillers, and splits.
  • Medkits no longer spawn in a bugged out state and can be found much more easily by players.
  • Gun containers will spawn more appropriate weapons.
  • Weapons can randomly spawn with attachments such as scopes, grips, lights and lasers pre-attached to the weapon or in a weapon spawn container.
  • Magazines no longer spawn with random amounts of ammunition in the magazine.
  • Stripper clips have a chance to spawn in alongside the Mosin Nagant or Lee Enfield
  • You can modify attachments for weapons provided they are not currently held in your hands.
  • Less junk items will spawn in containers as the game now tries to prioritise items that are useful to the player before spawning in junk
  • Weapon Scopes have improved clarity and are more likely to spawn
  • Adjusted Aim-Down-Sights timing
  • Weapon bashing implemented
  • Hunger and Thirst bars will decrease at a reasonable rate
  • Weapons have had their icons updated to more accurately reflect the attachments that were attached to the weapon when it spawned into the world as well as their current magazine state.
  • Weapons now display in the inventory what the current magazine status is, as well as the hotkey that the weapon is bound to when placed in an equippable slot.
  • Bottles of Soda now properly indicate how much soda is remaining in the bottle.

Foliage Optimization

  • New level of detail system for trees in the distance
  • Better implementation with level design

Updated Animations

  • New walk cycle animation
  • Polished MKVII pistol animation and C7 rifle animation
  • Improved audio implementation in some animations

Audio

  • Infected will now make sounds when you hit them

Bug Fixes


  • Infected spawners are working again in singleplayer and multiplayer modes
  • Survival gauges are functional, and will deplete as you move around or receive damage
  • You can now die of starvation or thirst
  • Corresponding death screens will appear on death
  • Character stats will reset upon death
  • Weather effects should not appear on player customization screen
  • Random loot will now spawn in containers
  • Raging Bull reload fixed

Hey folks!

Popping in to share a few quick updates.

We just launched a mini-crowdfunding campaign for the "I Want to Yeah" shirt worn by bus stranger!   • Episode 4 is coming along well, and unsurprisingly, it's huge. We're still working on the script, but so far it's already at 400 pages (which is significantly more content than Episode 3!) — this is the Episode where a lot of your decisions in the first three episodes are really going to start to be felt, so there should be a lot of interesting branching. We're shooting for a fall release, ideally around Halloween, though as always, we're not going to release it until it's ready, even if it takes some extra time.
  • We've got a small second game in the works, too, and it'll probably release between Episodes 4 and 5. We've deliberately designed in such a way that it should have minimal impact on Scarlet Hollow's release schedule. The writing hasn't slowed down Scarlet Hollow's script work whatsoever, and we're trying out a pencils-only art style that both looks great and takes a fraction of the time it takes to do full inks and colors. We'll be announcing at some point this summer, so once again, keep your eyes peeled!
  • We've got an upcoming balance patch we'll be releasing in June that adds a bit of new art to the first three episodes as well as some new dialogue. It's probably going to be similar in scale to the last balance patch we did — a few traits are going to feel a lot better.
  • As we continue to make more episodes and add more content to the game, we've been leaning more and more towards raising the price point. We'll give at least a month's heads up before that happens, but if you've been waiting for a discount to pick up the full game, it's definitely a good idea to pick it up the next time it goes on sale!
