NORCO got recognized at the 11th International A MAZE Festival in Berlin last week, winning top prize in the 'Long Feature' category. It was a great honor. For those who aren't familiar with the event, we recommend checking it out. They featured a huge number of interesting and experimental works, many of which aren't getting the attention in games press that they deserve. It's where we first heard of Atuel for example, a documentarian game about the Atuel River in Argentina.
If you want to check out our submission intro video, we uploaded it here. We couldn't be there personally to accept the award but luckily our friends at Raw Fury were on site to represent on our behalf. Some of their photos from the event:

The award!
As always, we're feeling that gratitude. Both to the A MAZE jury and staff; and to everyone who continues to follow along with this project.
We are very happy about the very positive reception of Update 5. Today's patch has fixes for the patch issues and some smaller improvements:
- Improved Camera Jittering issue - New sound when player gets hit and when hit on shields - Removed all 3 Content ID Tracks which slipped through - Fixed weapon switching issue and weapon switching on level ending breaking weapons - Fixed shops / kernel not giving things - Fixed Turret collision issue - Fixed some Laser Issues - Fixed Time tag explosion effect - Fixed varied other issues
Hit & Kill sounds - Right now we still have some audio management issues, this causes kill and hit sounds to stop playing after some time (also pickups often dont play) which makes the game feel really lame
- We are working replacing the current audio solution, for now a placeholder system is added to replace hit and kill sounds, but this is quite simplistic and dosnt sound on the correct enemy position but works at least
- Increased headshot hitbox by 25% - Reduced global weapon heat from 0.35 per sec to 0.3 - Reduces health scaling after the first maps - Improved kill pieces impact force on enemies, scales more logically with damage and is more varied
- Guard Judge now has 2 shorter shield dashes - Chrono trooper teleport cooldown reduced, range slightly reduced (testing) - PPQ-H reduced recoil, fixed perks missing - Rocketeer switched P33 spec ops out for PPQ-H - Eliminator Untouchable Field now only triggers when in combat - Improved Riotguard Shield Bash sound - Improved Grenadier Power Kick sound
- Harpoon reload 25% faster, damage 10 > 9x - HS50 reduced heat from 1 > 0.8x - Scatter ball ammo now splinters to near targets - Clarified Data and Class Token tooltips
Update 6 - Heat
It is planned for the steam summer events and is expected to go in testing in around 3 weeks+-
We are also now Upgrading to the new Unity 2021 version, this enables us a couple cool new features, and could also grant us DLSS support as well as some workflow and graphics improvements (Hopefully all goes well).
For Heat we are planning to add more polish in general, especially to items, and some big changes on environments, as well as the new Cooling Chambers environment and more.

As part of our June Players’ Choice tradition, back in March you were asked to vote for the theme of this month's mega arc. The three options were:
- Facets of the Past (DS9 + Trill) - Tin Man / Bio-Ships (TNG/VOY + Astrophysicist or Exobiologist) - Archer Mega (ENT + Inspiring)
The winner was Tin Man/Bio-Ships, let’s explore what this mega-event will be about.
Starfleet is evaluating the use of organic ships within their ranks. However, the “Tin Man” returns, not quite the docile creature he was once known to be. This frightening encounter is only a prelude to a bigger nightmare, as a crew dispatched to study the wreckage of a Species 8472 bioship disappears and the remnants of their doomed expedition could herald disaster for the entire galaxy.
For the duration of this mega-event crew with the ‘astrophysicist’ trait will provide an event bonus for all four events, the schedule will be as follows:
2022-06-02 - Skirmish event - Blight - this event will introduce a new ship: Gomtuu! 2022-06-09 - Galaxy Event - Pruned 2022-06-16 - Faction/Galaxy Event - Apoptosis 2022-06-23 - Faction Event - Pluripotency
Our recurrent mega arc crew will be ‘Infected Tryla Scott’ (Star Trek: The Next Generation - “Conspiracy”).
Participate in all four events to obtain a copy from threshold rewards, and to encounter other new characters such as: Captain Robert DeSoto, Lt. JG Picard, Lt. Commander Spock (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Lt. Commander MacDougal, Ruon Tarka, Surata IV La Forge, Hollow Data, and Disorderly Icheb. We hope you’ll enjoy this new original story arc, thank you for playing!
A new update is here! This update brings bug fixes, health bars and tower balances! So, let's go into this a little more!
Bug Fixes
A few bugs were reported which have now been fixed. Namely, the "Jelly Bro" and "Fruit Salad" achievement can now be attained without issue. Bug that prevented purchases unless you had MORE apples than required is now fixed. Bug with the UI displaying incorrect tower info, now fixed.
Health Bars
Players suggested that they would like to see enemy health bars. These have now been implemented, as soon as an enemy is damaged a health bar appears above them. Green is full health and it transitions to red to show damage.
Tower/Tree Balances
The Peashooters have had their upgrade price increased, as well as this, their range has been reduced.
The Cherry Bomb upgrade from Miss Applebee is now an increase of 5 damage to each level, rather than 1.
Thanks again everyone for the amazing feedback and bug reporting over on the Discord Server. If you see or think of anything else, let me know!
