Welcome to Development Update #7, where we provide the latest news on TFH directly from the developers! We're debuting our *new* key art and 7-star logo (we think Shanty has earned it by now), and there is a positively huge series of things to announce. Strap in, and let's kick this off.

What's Coming
Console Ports
Yes. Them's Fightin' Herds is coming to consoles this Fall on five platforms: Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. There will be crossplay between each of them (and also Steam), all with rollback netcode (still GGPO).

In addition to the digital version, there will be a physical version on each platform! Details on availability to come.

You'll be able to preorder the console releases from our website as retail listings go up. We'll make announcements as options become available.

Localization
While not exactly new news, we wanted to confirm that TFH will be localized for additional languages for the console release. We will announce the supported languages in a future post.

As stated in our last Development Update, subtitles will be added to versus mode intros and outros so more players can understand and enjoy the smack-talking.

Version 3.0
Version 3.0, the next major update for TFH, introduces a new gameplay mechanic: level 3 supers. Level 3s are cinematic supers that burn a max-charged meter to unleash your fighter's true potential. Alongside the update comes fresh balance changes addressing several universal mechanics including (but not limited to) the metergain system, Cross Canter, and tech rolling.

We will have more news to share about version 3.0 during our featurette at the PC Gaming Show on June 12th. Check their site for details on how to watch. You won't want to miss it.

Combo Breaker
Most of the development team will be attending Combo Breaker this weekend from May 27-29 in Chicago, IL. Our Top 12 will be streamed Sunday starting at 10:30am CT on the lowkick esports Twitch channel. We are honored to be included as a main game!

There will be a prize pool bonus of $2,000, placing the stakes at record highs for competitive TFH, and this is only the beginning!

It's going to be an incredible weekend of fighting game awesomeness. Be sure to check out the CB program guide to find other fantastic sets to watch. For those attending, we'll see you there soon! Safe travels.

What's Next
Physical Crowdfund Rewards
Production on the physical game copy, soundtrack, and movelist postcards had been stalled since initially revealing the mockups, but now that we’re a part of Modus we've gained the logistical power to resume manufacturing. Physical rewards are coming.

Physical reward earners: please make sure your shipping address is up to date by checking BackerKit. You've got some time still, but things could accelerate soon! We'll provide time estimates when we're further along in the process.

Story Mode
In our last Development Update we stated that "barring any unfortunate circumstances" we'd be able to finish all main Story Mode chapters before the end of 2022. Story Mode production is continuing along, but there have been circumstances.

We no longer think it's possible to make the goal of finishing the entire thing before the year is over while maintaining the bar of quality. Working on console ports and new localization systems demanded more time from our engineers and writers than we thought. Once they're complete, we can make story mode our priority again.

Chapter 2, starring Velvet, is still in ze works. When we have more to share, you'll be the first to know.

Conclusion

HUMANKIND™ - Daarkarr0w
The da Vinci Event may be over, but we’ve got more in store for you with the Mississippians Community Event starting today. Switching things up a little, this event does not feature individual challenges, but instead pools the contribution of all our players towards unlocking a special reward for everybody: A new culture to be added to the game, the Mississippians!

As you might be able to guess from their name, the Mississippian culture flourished along the banks of the Mississippi and its tributaries, establishing numerous chiefdoms between the 9th and 17th century. Their influence extended across much of the south-eastern part of the present-day United States, but they are nonetheless sometimes called Cahokians after one of their biggest and most influential settlements. At the heart of these settlements lay a public plaza with monumental earthen mounds, with structures ranging from grain silos to temples constructed on top of them, given these flat-topped pyramids great cultural and ritual significance.

This event will run from today May 25th to June 9th, and since the Mississippians are well-known for their earthworks, this challenge is all about construction, counting the Builder Era Stars all of our players collect. It doesn’t matter which culture you’re playing, if you’re using mods, or the Bolivar beta. Just build your beautiful cities and collect those era stars!

On your way to unlocking the Mississippian culture, we also have some other rewards in store for you:

  • 500 000 Builder Stars: A wallpaper pack with the culture art for the Mississippians... and maybe more
  • 1 000 000 Builder Stars: The Soundtrack for the Mississippian culture
  • 2 000 000 Build Stars: The Mississippian culture unlocked in the game

After many rounds of testing, Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) will now be enabled on Steam and enforced in ranked and tournament lobbies. Players who do not want to use EAC can still disable it with the '-noeac' launch parameter and can play custom matches or non-ranked game modes.

EAC is now confirmed to have no negative effect on performance as it once did in the past. Additionally, map backgrounds will still be modifiable without triggering EAC, and modifying map backgrounds will still be tournament legal.




This update also includes a new Test Feature where a player automatically performs an Aerial Heavy attack if they are out of Jumps, a new Test Feature to help better communicate when players are out of Jumps, and an update to the Dodge Cooldown Test Feature.

New Out of Jump Recovery Feature
Introducing a new feature where a player automatically performs an Aerial Heavy attack, also known as the Recovery attack, if they are out of Jumps and try to Jump! If a player still has a Recovery available when they try to Jump but are out of Jumps, the player will do a Recovery attack instead.
  • This feature is enabled by default, though it is only active when Test Features are “ON” in Custom Game lobbies or when playing in the Experimental queue.
  • Players can turn it off in their Control Settings, and that setting will be saved in the event the feature graduates from Test Features into all queues.


New Test Feature

This new feature removes the slight tint when a player is out of Jumps. This information is better communicated through the graduated Out of Recovery visual effect that includes the "sweat beads” appearing on the player.

Updated Dodge Cooldown

The previous iteration of Experimental Dodge Cooldown proved to be an overly long duration for general gameplay, and took too much power away from being grounded and having stage control. This new iteration brings down the maximum Air Dodge Cooldown slightly more, from the previous Experimental value of 2.16 seconds to a flat 2 seconds. This Air Dodge cooldown does not get reduced when landing. Dodging from the ground previously shared that 2.16 second cooldown in Experimental, but now has a flat 1 second cooldown that is identical to non-Experimental Dodges that begin on the ground. Any Chase Dodge causes a 1 second dodge cooldown, even if it is performed in the air. This grants the ability to Chase Dodge much more often and off of most any hit, while still retaining a quick Dodge cooldown that can be used to outplay your opponent. Striking an opponent will carry a similar advantage in Dodge Cooldown as maintaining ground or stage control.
  • Ground Dodge and Chase Dodges now have a 1 second cooldown.
  • Air Dodges have a 2 second cooldown, and this cooldown does not change when landing.
  • Performing a Chase Dodge after hitting another Legend grants you the same 1 second cooldown as a grounded dodge even if the Chase Dodge is performed in the air.



While general balance is locked for the Midseason Championship, this patch brings Arcadia into the tournament scene with her first round of adjustments. These changes had been previously announced to provide this information early enough for those competing in the Midseason Championship on http://brawlhalla.com/balance-preview and through our official esports Twitter, @ProBrawlhalla.



Arcadia

Arcadia's Neutral Spear now has significantly greater Recover time on miss, as it was too low risk for its overall coverage. We have also reduced the Force on this attack to bring its knockout potential in line with other similar Signatures. Arcadia's Side Spear has also received a decrease in Force to better fit its travel distance and how far it carries a target before knocking them away.
  • Arcadia Neutral Spear: Increased total Recover time on miss from 20 to 26; Decreased Force from 55 Fixed/50 Variable to 55 Fixed/48 Variable.
  • Arcadia Side Spear: Decreased Force from 50 Fixed/50 Variable to 50 Fixed/47 Variable.

  • Volume levels are now played at an appropriate and consistent level.
  • We have advanced developer audio controls now across all platforms.
  • Audio levels scale better with damage.
These updates will be ongoing in future patches as we continue to fine tune and improve Brawlhalla on all platforms.

  • Fixed a bug related to the cursor being stuck on the right side of the main menu.
User Experience
  • Fixed a rare matchmaking bug that resulted in very long queue times for Friendly 2v2s and other team matchmaking games when one player leaves immediately before the match countdown.
  • Fixed a bug where bots with Test Features “enabled” would not attack on Medium and Easy difficulty.
  • Fixed a crash on the Inventory menu.
Art & Animation
  • Fixed a visual bug for Cross’s Gauntlets showing as Kor’s Gauntlets on mobile platforms.
  • Fixed an issue where the B-ballin’ Emote would not use the unique Rayman dribble animation on the Post-game Scoreboard screen.

Many adventurers have braved the slopes in the hopes of ending the river of curses that flow from the Celestial peaks, but the Tengu smith Kajiya has surrounded himself with a coterie of potent evil spirits, and no heroes have yet to return. It's time to find the key to the ancient secrets!

While the event is running, you can meet Keymaster Dolos at the Hellsong Tavern or Cinderkreg and help him create Malachite Keys. Destroying monsters will earn you Malachite Chests containing a variety of rare and never seen before items, including a new pet, the Gurinid Warrior, Greater Magic Feathers, Greater Fortune Cubes, the Nameless One's Cubes, and more.

Don't forget to open all the chests on time, because a week after the end of the event, the chests and keys will disappear.
