Welcome to Lootun Deep Dive #3. This week we will be looking at the salvaging and crafting system that Lootun has to offer and how you can use this to create powerful equipment.
Salvaging:
Salvaging is a key component of progression in Lootun as it allows you to turn your unwanted equipment into valuable resources that allow you to craft new equipment or upgrade your existing pieces.
Equipment can be manually salvaged by placing them into the scrapper.
Auto Salvaging:
Lootun also offers a feature called the “Auto Scrapper” that allows for certain rules to be setup so that items are automatically salvaged without entering your inventory. This tool will be particularly useful as you progress through the game and begin to more consistently find items of higher rarities.
Materials:
Salvaging equipment will yield a variety of materials useful for crafting and upgrading your items.
Profession Materials:
These are generic materials that can be obtained from salvaging based on the type of item being salvaged. These materials are also required to craft equipment and can also be obtained from the Profession system that will be covered in a future Deep Dive.
Rarity Cores:
Each item salvaged will yield at least one core of its given rarity. These rarity cores play an important part in crafting new equipment or upgrading existing equipment.
Attribute Shards:
As you salvage items with attributes you will obtain offensive, defensive and utility shards that can be used to upgrade and reroll the attributes of existing items. The number of shards you receive is dependant on the quantity and the rank of the attributes on the equipment you salvage.
Socket Shards:
Once you begin to receive socketed equipment salvaging them will reward Socket Shards which in turn can be used to add sockets to your existing items that lack them.
Enchanting Reagents:
High level bosses will occasionally drop items that are enchanted with a unique, powerful, modifier. Salvaging enchanted items will reward enchanting powder and crystals which in turn can be used to add enchants of your choice to your existing equipment.
Crafting:
Crafting is a key feature in Lootun and is split into two main components.
Equipment Crafting:
As you loot and salvage equipment many of the pieces you find will unlock the ability to be crafted at the Blacksmith. Items can be crafted up to Epic quality and may be crafted up to the maximum level you have achieved. Crafting each piece of equipment will require some profession materials and some rarity cores depending on the item and rarity you wish to craft.
Upgrading:
Upgrading equipment is a key part of progression in Lootun, as you obtain equipment you can reroll or upgrade the attributes on the item to provide even more power or defence to your adventurers.
Reroll Item Attributes:
Re-rolling attributes requires a rarity core and some attribute shards depending on which attributes the item already has. Re-rolling attributes will allow you to completely customise the attributes provided by your equipment and can be used with the Lock Attributes craft to remove unnecessary randomness when trying to create the perfect item.
Randomise Item Attribute Ranks:
Randomising attributes ranks also requires a rarity core and some attribute shards based on the attributes present on the item. Randomise attribute ranks will reroll the rank of each attribute between the minimum natural rank for the item and to slightly above the maximum natural rank. This crafting option can be used to cheaply raise the power of your equipment without needing to invest all of your attribute shards. Once an attribute receives it’s maximum possible rank through randomising it will no longer be reduced in rank by future randomise crafts.
Lock Attributes:
Locking attributes will cost rarity cores and some attribute shards depending on the attribute you wish to lock. Once an attribute is locked it cannot be removed from the item via the Reroll Item Attributes craft. This allows you to deterministically craft your perfect item over time as you gather the materials. Locked attributes can also be unlocked if required.
Upgrade Item Attributes:
Upgrading attributes will cost attribute shards based on the type of attribute to upgrade. The Upgrade Item Attributes craft will upgrade the selected attribute rank by 1 each craft. Each attribute rank will cost an increasing number of shards so make sure to evenly upgrade your attributes if you are short on shards.
Add Sockets:
Add Sockets will cost socket shards depending on the number of sockets already present on the equipment and can be used to add sockets to a piece of equipment up to the maximum number of sockets available on the equipment slot.
Enchants:
As you progress through the game you will obtain rare Enchant Scrolls that can be used to learn the recipe for a specific enchant. Once an enchant recipe is learned the enchant can be freely crafted onto any appropriate piece of equipment you own.
Together these crafting options will allow you to deterministically create extremely powerful equipment allowing you to take on even more challenging and rewarding content.
Wrap Up:
Thank you for reading this weeks Deep Dive, next week we will be taking a look at the Missions and Combat system in Lootun.
As always feel free to leave any suggestions or comments here, or on the Discord or Subreddit
-Reworked how knockback and movement works under the hood to make it possible for enemies to knockback the player. I've fixed all the resulting bugs I've found but please let me know if you find any I've missed. (No enemies actually use this ability yet, it's just setting up future content.)
-Infusion now only transfers attributes, not actions. A card loot system that will allow actual deckbuilding is on its way.
-You can now unplay a card just by clicking on it, rather than having to drag it back down.
-Cards are no longer allowed to display tooltips while being upgraded, to avoid obscuring upgrade menu UI.
-Enemies are now separated into tiers. The tier of an enemy also determines how many kills it counts as for your cards
-Improved various UI; Player is now more visible when under threat of enemy damage, Enemy ability display is being worked on and now tells you enemy tier and teeth reward.
-NOTICE: New sprites have been added, so old save files will populate your cards' art with the wrong sprites. It won't have any impact on gameplay, you'll just have randomly generated card art until you make a new save.
