Since we’re still in playtesting and bug fixing mode, there aren’t a lot of juicy design topics to ramble about. We’re steadily ironing out the kinks from the game, and every report we’ve received on both Steam or Discord has already been fixed.
The only temporary setback to get those fixes out is a planned power outage that will affect our builder infrastructure. We were planning a patch for today, but due to this we’ve decided to push the patch for next week. We don’t want to risk releasing a patch today without a way to react to any unexpected crashes or critical issues it could have. Note that when I say unexpected, I really mean unexpected - the expected ones would have been fixed before the patch went out!
So in short, expect a patch next week with fixes to everything that has been reported on Steam so far, and likely anything that gets reported from today until then.
As for the title of the blog post…. *drum roll*
June 14th!
In less than a month, the game will receive the final Early Access update, Update 8: Endless Mode, and leave Early Access to become the full 1.0 version!
It’s been a long, bumpy and fun ride since we started Early Access. I’m sure we couldn’t have made the game as good as it is now without the support of the people who gave us feedback. Whether that feedback was some tiny annoyance or some larger concern (like character uniqueness), we tried to improve the game with all of those in mind, and even if we didn’t end up resolving every suggestion, I can assure you that each one was at least discussed.
That said, we’re still open to feedback and are ready to improve the game the best we can with our limited capacity all the way until release! Just note that, after all, we are just 3 programmers out of 8 people in total, so there’s a natural limit to what we can pull off. So if you have the game and would like to suggest improvements for before or after 1.0, report bugs or give us some constructive criticism, come talk to us directly on our Discord server, or post here on Steam and I’ll reply as soon as I see the message!

Here are the updates made to Shadow Arena during the maintenance on May 18 (Wed). * Patch Size: Approx. 339.02 MB
Check out the details below, and we will see you in the Arena!
[Dev Note] Greetings, this is the Shadow Arena Development team.
After announcing the end of Beta Season 8 in early April, the preseason which lasted 6 weeks has ended as a new season begins today.
During preseason, we proceeded with the FGT through the developer notes, then planned to decide on what was next for Shadow Arena. However, we regret to inform you that we made players wait for a long time due to a number of matters.
Before starting Beta Season 8, we discussed three key topics of the season: the addition of consumable items, adding the ancient altar, and bringing diversity to the arena. Although some of these elements were implemented during the season update, not all of them were met.
With that being said, we've decided to update the content by implementing these three specific topics in mind.
In addition, we divided up the battle pass point requirements more precisely so that dyes, skins, and other various items can be obtained more easily. For this Battle Pass, we made adjustments to the system so that battle pass points could also be earned through Deathmatch. We hope that players enjoy all of the modes, Solo, Trio, and Deathmatch in Beta Season 9.
Lastly, we hope players look forward to the new season as much as do as we will continue to work towards providing the best service.
Thank you.

■ Hero
| All Increased the transition time into the next motion after using Dark Shift by 0.5 sec.
[Dev Note]
Dark Shift was designed to be used to escape dicey situations. Contrary to its original purpose, some heroes took advantage of the skill by using it as an opportunity to counterstrike by following it up with a charge or ranged skill. Therefore, in the last update, we changed the skill effect from knockback to blowback so it aligns more with the initial direction as a skill. But there were instances where counterattacks were still being performed, so we added a delay to strengthen its escape qualities as a skill.
Herawen
| Elemental Aggregation (Passive) - Changed the enhanced basic attack motion according to skill. - Increased the projectile speed and attack range upon gathering all the elements.
| Seed of Ice (Q) - Changed so you cannot use the skill while moving.
| Ancient Dragon's Breath (F) - Fixed the issue where the skill would be canceled by the basic attack (LMB) skill when transitioning into Thunder Viper (E) after using skill.
| Thunder Viper (E) - Changed the increased DP color effect in the alert message.
Lahn
| Third Blade (F) - Adjusted the max number of hits of the skill to 3 hits. > However, damage remains the same as before. - Increased the charging distance upon casting skill from 4m to 6m. - Improved the attack speed of 1-2 hits. - Changed the CC effect from knockdown to blowback upon targeting 3 hits.
[Dev Note]
In this last update, the number of hits of the Third Blade skill changed to 2 hits. At the time, Lahn’s skills lacked defensive effects as the skill duration and the combo distance was short.
However, these changes removed the Third Blade’s unique ability of being able to perform an extended combo resulting in the skill deviating from its original concept and intended use. To emphasize the skill’s strengths, we’ve made changes by increasing its viability and adjusted its defensive effects.
Igrid
| Thunder Strike (Q)
- Fixed the issue where the skill was canceled yet cooldown would be applied upon using basic attacks
Ataraxia
| Helix Slash (E) - Fixed the issue where super armor was not included in the skill description.

* Skill Effect Attack Range: 2.5m Damage: -15% of current HP Blowback: 1.2 sec

[Dev Note]
Scrolls and items that can only be obtained through treasure chests were added to induce the fun in turning around situations in a clever way. Like Red Dragon’s offering, scroll items were changed to be obtained from ancient relics. But obtaining them became more difficult and the frequency of their usage decreased. In result, they did not function efficiently as a variable in the gameplay. The newly added elemental items can be utilized to escape risky situations as they can be farmed straight from the arena. And because the items have strong debuff effects, we expected them to be used to players’ advantage to lead battles.

> You cannot obtain items through defeating Shadow Trolls or Knights as well as special monsters.
> The above items are dropped upon death and other players can obtain them.
[Dev Note]
The newly added Black Star gear is an item that can only be obtained during the farming stage and designed with the intention to increase ambiguity and uncertainty of the game. If players acquires it in the early stages of the game, its powerful effects grants players the advantage of being able to grow faster than any other player. And if you obtain this item, you will have the room to purchase and explore other items rather than the usual items purchased. We hope that the range of item selection will be diversified through this change.
Although the price of the Shadow Lord equipment is relatively low, please note that they were designed with consideration so that their effects are not that high.

> Items that are unavailable at the Shop can be obtained through treasure chests or from defeating monsters
[Dev Note]
Various items have been added to the shop throughout the seasons. With this, we've received feedback about players not knowing which items to purchase. In consideration to this, we removed some items from the shop, limited the number of categories, made changes so that low-tier items were no longer available for purchase as well as limit the addition of new items. However, it did bring on limitations in experiencing the fun around purchasing and combining various items. This is a part of the game that we’ve been wanting to address for some time.
With the changes that have been implemented to farming, the shop system, and the addition of Blackstar gear, we thought it was a good time to introduce a new item and this is the "balance item." In this season, we plan to add more new items so that players can experience the joy around item selection when setting items, so we hope you look forward to what is to come!

[Dev Note]
A final phase has been added to Solo and Trio mode. As we previously mentioned diversifying the arena in Beta Season 8, other than the Flow of the Arena system, its implementation was not clear. As much as it may sound like an excuse, the relocation of the dark fog and changing the final phase required a lot of work. The structure itself was complicated to make quick when changes. However, after making improvements to the system, we were glad about quickly being able to implement diversifying aspects to the current Beta Season 9. The newly added “final phase” of the arena should increase the fun and relieve the repetitiveness in the gameplay that the flow of the arena system alone could not tackle. But most importantly, the key goal is to allow changes in the direction of battles which can vary depending on the location of the fog. We hope that players enjoy the newly added content.
| Deathmatch - Changed so the Deathmatch arena is on rotation. > Deathmatch Arena: Colosseum, Shadow Altar, Extraction Mill, Wheat Plantation, Heidel - The following rotation will be applied between May 18, 2022 to June 1, 2022 before maintenance

[Dev Note] To provide different types of fun in Deathmatch mode, recently we’ve been adding new arenas. But given the way the system is structured; players could not select the arena of their choice as the maps would be selected randomly at a set probability. As a result, players were limited in playing the map that was randomly selected for them. Because it was difficult to gather feedback about the newly added arena, we changed the system so that only designated arenas can be played for a period of time. The available arenas will continue to change throughout the season and we look forward to your feedback or opinion on the new arenas.
