Return to the era of canon and musket with the new linebattle-themed major update! It’s time to take a break from the Great War front and fall in to rank and file on the great battlefields of Napoleon.

Holdfast: Nations At War will receive a major update in August/Early September. All hands will be on deck, polishing off this content update for the games Napoleonic front. This update will bring some of the biggest new additions and changes many of which where requested by our community.

New Class. The Sergeant

Arriving on the battlefield will be the new Sergeant class, coming with its own unique abilities that will support other members of the rank and file during brave charges. Keep in touch as we undergo its development for more specifics.











Equipped with a musket and spontoon, these dashing fellows will maintain discipline and order throughout the raging battle.



New Artillery. The Howitzer

Explode terrifying howitzer rounds above the dwindling ranks of the enemy with the new Howitzer Artillery piece.

Effective at short to mid range, this new addition to the battlefield will crush morale and thwart off mass assaults from foes. Well drilled artillerymen will be able to arch shots over hills and explode shells above the enemy by adjusting the fuse prior to firing.

Additionally, the explosive damage from field guns will now be removed to make way for this new beast of the battlefield.



Character Customisation & Progression

Personalise your Holdfast experience with the introduction of character customisation and progression. Holdfast players across both Nations At War and Frontlines will initially be able to pick a head for their character from a variety of options and also set a voice pitch. Customisation will be class specific, allowing players to create unique ‘characters’ for each and every class available in the game.

By playing on officially hosted Anvil Game Studios servers, players will unlock additional faces featuring beards and battle-ridden scars to showcase their veterancy as they gather experience.



Regiment Ranks & Banners

To further expand on customisation within the game, regiment leaders will now be able to assign preset rank images to their custom ranks within their regiment. Players will then have this rank image shown in-game next to their name and also on the round scoreboard.

We will also be working closely with regiments to bring in additional imagery for their regiments banner customisation tool to truly allow them to represent their regiment as they desire.

Battlefield Atmosphere

Improving the battlefield atmosphere has been another key focus of this forthcoming major update to build upon the general ambience of the smoke filled battles of Nations At War. New reload animations for muskets and changes to the 1st person camera are some of the new features coming with this update.

Linebattle Maps

New, specifically made, linebattle maps will be making their way into the game with this major update. Featuring interest points and designed with competitive play at the forefront, these new maps will provide a fresh take on gameplay.

We’ve worked alongside some of our tremendous Holdfast SDK artisans to bring in some of the community's favourite custom modded Linebattle maps into the game alongside our own. Take a look below at a preview of some of the maps coming in this update.

Class Rebalance

A first pass review of all the infantry-based Holdfast: Nations At War classes! We’re wanting to make sure that there is a reason for players to choose one class over another and for these decisions to not only feel balanced but also be appropriate for gameplay.

We’ll be changing and improving some class abilities to give increased meaning to class selection and teamwork. Line Infantrymen will also be given an accuracy buff to help bolster their presence on the battlefield.

Additional changes will be made and new buffs added to classes across the board.



Faction Coalitions

March into battle shoulder to shoulder with soldiers from other nations. Re-enact the grand battle of Waterloo with this new addition to the private event sector of Holdfast.

Server owners will now be able to enable Faction Coalitions, allowing soldiers of the British army to fight alongside those from the Prussian, and Russian armies. Those who wish to fight under the banner of Napoléon will also find themselves marching with those good fellows from the nations of France and Italy.



Grenadier Regiment DLC

Stand side by side with your fellow elites in dashing new uniforms with the release of the Grenadier Regiment DLC.



Content present in Holdfast: Nations At War’s DLCs is purely cosmetic. It doesn’t and never will impact gameplay. Your kind generosity will be put to good use and bring this genre of roleplay warfare games which all of us are fond of in the limelight.

Changing The Meta

Feedback taken from our regiment meetings indicated a present issue with the current linebattle meta. Artillery for some time now has been dominating the meta of linebattles, slowing the experience down and punishing indiscriminately any brave fellows who do decide to abandon the safety of cover.

We will be re-balancing the artillery pieces to reduce the amount of kills a player can get from a single cannon shot. Field-guns will no longer have explosive damage with the introduction of the new Howitzer artillery piece. Howitzers will also have limited range and only be effective at short to mid ranges.



Holdfast SDK 5.0

Coming in a separate update before the release of the linebattle one, the Holdfast SDK will receive a massive update that includes new modding functionality for atlasing custom uniforms and over 1500+ additional new props to use within the creations of our wonderful artisans. But what sort of change will this bring to the community?

You can reduce the download size of your uniform collection for your regiment by packing textures into an atlas.

You can optimise your uniform collection by packing textures into an atlas reducing draw calls. It takes some experience to do but this will greatly reduce the impact a mod uniform has on the client FPS.

We were made aware that some events place a limit for the number of mods a regiment can feature in a particular event due to the complexity involved in putting them in each and every map rotation. Now you can simply package all your uniforms into one bundle and you’re good to go.

The ability to have multiple variations for an existing uniform. IE. Randomly change the colour of the pants for your Line Infantry uniform when the player spawns with it.

We will also be giving more opportunities for modded content creators to get their creations into the game officially. We have already begun porting over some of the communities most played custom linebattle maps into the game and we look forward to seeing what will be created with the coming update to the SDK tools.



Enlist In A Regiment

Rise through the ranks of a regiment, support your fellow soldiers as a musician, artillery, surgeon, or remain a humble line infantryman as your regiment clash against other regiments in organised and competitive events.

Regiments are organised in-game groups or clans who hosts and participate in both private and public events. These events range from hardcore linebattles, ceremonies, melee tournaments, training, and many more that varies depending on the regiment.

Those who are interested in playing in an organised and competitive setting should consider joining a regiment and can do so by visiting the in-game regiment registry enlisting to one of their choosing.

As promised, we've finished our 4th game, paying respect to the most famous weapon of the Wild West, the Winchester.



We've also considered your reviews, so we hope we could compensate those who didn't find the challenge in some of the games.

To celebrate the 4th game release, we will host a game night where you can challenge the developers and other players in this new game and show what you learned in the previous ones.







Zodiac Legion - Galdred
Dear players,
Zodiac Legion was selected for showcase at Digital Dragons in Krakow on May 16th or 17th. It is mostly a professional event, but the Steam event is taking place now.

Here is the partial changelog for the demo:

- There is an advisor to make the beginning a bit less confusing
- You can use F1 to open the help in some situations (still a WiP)
- The calculations will now be done in the background, so the UI shouldn't freeze as much
- UI preview now shows support and flanking in combat
- AI can now open doors (and will learn how to destroy obstacles soon!)
- Multiple fixes (damages to props, shooting through walls, HP bar being updated before animation...).
- Several gameplay changes (like the addition of cover).
- Added several setting parameters

It is still a very rough work in progress, and there is a lot we intend to improve! Thank you for your patience!

Wizards and Warlords - Valravn Games
  • Custom Unit Types: Wizards and Sovereign Warlords can now create custom unit types from a tab panel in the Military Window. This is done by specifying Culture, Mount, Weapons/Armor/Shield, Abilities and Weight. You can also choose Icon and Name for the unit type. The resulting unit will have a cost based on the options chosen. Additional options will be added in subsequent updates, as will some limitations on how freely this can be used (unlimited access at no cost will likely not remain for all Wizards) - but the latter will be come with a game setting for those players who prefer to be without such restrictions.
  • When conquering a Fortress, leaders of minor faction will now cause an event / prompt similar to the one when conquering a City
  • Conquering a Knightly Order Fortress now has special logic handling the leader (Master / Grandmaster) of the Fortress. When not slain during the assault, the leader may instead flee or be captured by the conquering faction.
  • Shrine: Now require a Religious-type character of the correct religion to be assigned in order to generate Influence. Having an Arcane character assigned will yield an additional +1 Mana. These can be fulfilled by the a single character with both types or two different characters.
  • Shrine: Construction can now fail if no Religious Leader assigned during construction (2% per turn). In addition it also carries a 50% risk of gaining 1-20 Divine Wrath per Turn. This is evaluated on a per-turn basis (ie unassignment/reassignment matters).
  • Outliner: Now sorts most entries by type and/or name. Armies are sorted by size.
  • Outliner: Now includes Fortress Upgrades as part of the Construction group.
  • Divine Favor Boons: Added additional trait-giving boons to several domains, expanding the number of domains with access to 'treat-as-class' traits.
  • World Generator will now be less likely to choose certain key traits when pruning traits from randomly generated cultures that end up with a very high number of traits.
  • Tweaked the cost and stats of several types of armor.
  • Added a soft cap to the cost calculation for some of the random events that have a (potential) cost component, and did not already have such logic.
  • New City Building Type: Celestial Artificery. Industrial-type building for celestials and/or good-aligned wizards. Converts Industrial output to Mana.
  • New City Building Types: Metalworks (Silver, Platinum, Mithril, Adamantite). Industrial-type buildings which convert Industrial output to the relevant metal. Requires access to the metal via adjacency or being the provincial capital of a province with the resource.
  • New Spell: Gifts in the Snow (Frost Mastery). Enchantment which increases the output of resource sites in arctic terrain and buffs the stats of cities in arctic terrain.
  • Improved logging of character ranged attacks during grid battles
  • Mythos Editor: Workshop preview icon now be set from the UI
  • Fixed a number of crash bugs related to cities and pop culture
  • Fixed a bug where Ichor Vats produced the wrong resource
  • Fixed an unintentional cooldown affecting the Flash of Insight spell.
  • Fixed a bug causing the sorting on the Deities grid to be incorrect.
  • Fixed a bug where City Leaders gained through conquest would sometimes not switch faction correctly if the conqueror was a Wizard.
  • Fixed a number of bugs causing characters to be treated as being located at a site despite having a different actual location. Characters could even end up being located at multiple sites while also being in an army or in the wilderness.
  • Fixed a battle crash bug involving the Quicken spell.

Across the Obelisk - Dreamsite Games
Hey everybody!

This is a hotfix that includes small fixes/QoL/balance. A lot of this changes have been suggested by the community, we are always up to improve the game so don't hesitate to share with us your suggestions!

Archon Nhir:
Greatly reduced the boss HP in all modes.
- Abstraction (enchantment), removed gain evasion when damaged and replaced with apply insane.
- Apotheosis (enchantment), reduced a bit the shield gain when damaged.
- Doomsday applies 3 doom charges(from 4). Making the countdown start earlier.
- Crucifixion (white), removed damage sides and added jump 1 (so now will add 2 martyrdoom in the heroes decks).
- Martyrdoom, all versions will make the hero lose 20 hp when cast (white version was lose 24 hp).
- Ethereal: reduced buffer charges.
- Misery: in normal and madness, the "sad" cards are added in the discard pile instead of random deck.
- Phantom Echoes, in normal increased jump to 3(from 2), in madness and despair, increased damage based on vanished cards to x1(from 0.5) and x1.5(from 1) respectively.

Note: With these changes we want to make the fight more agile and less cumbersome. To compensate we have made the boss scale damage a little faster with the "Phantom Echoes" spell.

- Added lots of missing tooltips of the new corrupted items and various cards.
- Fixed some text in various events.
- Added a Deck energy counter that will show a summary of your cards energy (similar to the one available in the Obelisk Challenge).
- Added the "Enchantment" tag to the bottom of these cards.
- You should not be able to buy a pet in the town Armory if you already have that same pet. On the other hand, it is possible to get a pet (doing quests) even if you previously bought it in the Armory.
- Added a new configuration option to disable/enable the "screen shake" during combat.
- We have moved the item reroll limitation to 1, from Madness 4 to Madness 6. About this, we have fixed the bug that was letting clients (in a coop game) to reroll without limit.
- Some minor fixes here and there.
