Nomad Survival - thefoxknocks
Hello, everyone!

Another quick little patch. I've been investigating the crash issues people have been having as well as some reports of the game running exceptionally slow for some users and I'm happy to say that I've found the culprit.

I was removing entities and instances from the game, but in some cases, I wasn't actually removing it from memory. Oops. The result? In my tests, the game would sometimes go up to using 1GB VRAM (your graphics card memory) and beyond as time went on. Now? I gave myself every single skill in the game and couldn't breach 150MB VRAM. This is a huge performance increase and... dare I say it... it should fix the crash issues some people are having.

Or at least I really hope it does. You have no idea how bad I feel when people say they enjoy the game but it keeps crashing, so I really hope we can have this fixed and move on from it. It's been my top priority to get this fixed.

As usual, if your game crashing persists, please let me know in the Discussion board, but I'll honestly be very surprised if it does. The performance increase, especially on lower-end hardware, is pretty noticeable with these changes.

In happier news, we broke 100 sales last night! Actually, we're over 130 right now! Thank you all so much. When I made this game, I honestly resigned myself to it selling maybe 10 copies, so this is already way more than I expected!

If you know of any YouTubers, Twitch Streamers, or Steam Curators who might be interested in Nomad Survival, let me know! I'd love to reach out to them and see what happens. Some of you have already made videos or streamed the game and I'm over the moon for it.

Once I can be sure this game crash issue has been fixed, I can start moving on to making new content. Feel free to post some suggestions for stuff you think might be cool in the Discussion board. I am only one person, so hearing the ideas of other people would really help generate some truly cool ideas.

Alternatively, if you think something in the game isn't very good (or maybe you think it's just outright terrible), please do let me know! I'm curious to hear both good and bad opinions. I won't know unless you tell me, right?

Thanks again!

Voice Chat + Better Servers
The Paint Warfare voice chat was working about 1/10th of the time last Paint Warfare build, and there were reports of people being randomly kicked from games. I needed to patch that lmao.

  • Larger bandwidth on voice chat and gameplay servers
  • The 'Voice Chat' setting in options now displays your current mic when you hover over it (ingame only)
  • When speaking (holding V), the mic icon in the bottom right corner will now have an audio visualisation so you can see if voice chat is working
  • Voice chat volume is now automatically increased/decreased to make sure everyone is audible

Other
  • Improved UI responsiveness and sound design
  • Added my friend g0d to the game credits for designing some cool upcoming hats!
  • Added a groovy new joining tune made by my friend Vern Carson
  • Better looking stickers on supporter guns
  • Huge content update coming soon B:)

Thanks for reading through and supporting me in making this awesome game! Enjoy the update and head over to our official discord community if you've got feedback or want to join in on our tests!

CHR$(143) - Nicolas Jean
In addition to some improvements resulting from player feedback (including in level 71...), this version introduces some new internal mechanisms to counter the demonic tricks invented by @AlcHolic42k to get an undue victory in some Workshop levels!

(though @AlcHolic42k deserves all my admiration for this amazing ability to find the weak points of the levels)

- Added button to toggle visibility of twitch integration panel
- Quick monster turn option renamed to Quicker kaiju turn, now increases kaiju turn speed by 1.5x normal speed
- Added highlight to comic book level select to draw more attention to it if playing the first time

Tweaks
- Landmine Project now affects Tunnels and Collapsed Tunnels
- Reduced default music volume (only new players will see this change)

Bug Fixes
- Tooltips no longer cut off at bottom edge of screen
- Increased size of 'Click to evacuate' message, fixed sizing with German localization
- Increased size of clicking tile option menu (unit deployment, construct buildings, etc.) to fix sizing with non-English localizations
- Kaiju rumbling while walking sound should properly stop when switching to main menu

Features coming up next:
- Button to refund and reset medal costs of unlocked Researchers and Researcher slots

We want to make Kaiju Wars be the best it can be, so keep that feedback coming!
