PowerWash Simulator - Josh FuturLab
Hey everyone - welcome to dev log 50!

Last week we shared insights from Dan, our Lead Designer, on how the economy is being tweaked with more multiplayer and repeat play rewards. More on that here: https://steamcommunity.com/games/1290000/announcements/detail/3133949262585464694

This week we preview improvements coming to some of the earlier jobs!

Redux Jobs - Back Garden

We've been busy putting older jobs under the microscope, which has led to many tweaks and changes and, in some cases, overhauls of the entire levels. We also had guidance from a feedback form we released months ago where over 3500 people rated levels on a scale of 1-10.

https://steamcommunity.com/games/1290000/announcements/detail/2992066214554670810

Four levels have received significant changes: the Back Garden, Playground, Shoe House, and Storybook Cottage. The changes are often threshold tweaks, splitting large parts into smaller parts and visual improvements. There are other levels with some of these improvements, but these four are the most striking.

We'll be highlighting more of these Redux Jobs in future dev logs, but we want to stress that this is not yet in live PWS but is coming in a future update!

Dave from the design team has these insights to share on the changes coming to the Back Garden job:

It's been over a year since PowerWash Simulator was released in Early Access. Since then, we have learnt a lot! As the jobs got more elaborate, we looked back at some of the levels initially released and formed a list of things we'd love to improve about them.

We're pleased to say that we have had the opportunity to return to these jobs ahead of the game's full release.

The Back Garden is the first big job players encounter in the game. To help players progress, we've broken down some of the objects into smaller parts and changed their names to indicate better where they can be found.

Also, to further improve the sense of progress and satisfaction we've made some colour changes. From the floor and trims to the trellis and shed, everything has been given a brighter coat of paint to improve the contrast between dirty and clean areas.

We've rebalanced some cleaning thresholds too. Everything should DING when you expect it to - no more hunting for tiny specks of dirt or having large patches simply vanish before your eyes. Cleaning the Back Garden has never been more satisfying, and we can't wait to share these changes with the community to see what you all think.

The Back Garden, in particular, is heavy on visual changes. Dennis from our art team has been working hard to make the level even more satisfying and has this to share:

Dennis:
#Discussions_QuoteBlock_Author
Me and the art team thought that some of the earlier levels could be brought in line with how our newer levels look and feel. The older levels were much colder in colours, which detracted from the colourful, happy vibe we're going for and want the players to experience. This rings true not only for the washable assets themselves but also for the environment!

#Discussions_QuoteBlock_Author
The colours on the washable objects in the improved Back Garden were chosen with particular care to give maximum contrast when washing. All in all, the whole level feels more cohesive and unified now!

Another thought we've put in was the dirt, which focused a lot on looking realistic in some earlier levels. That doesn't always translate well to great washing satisfaction, so we were keen on updating that on the backyard to be thicker and contrast better with the underlying object colours.

The Back Garden is one of the first levels players come across, so we hope that the improvements will make things more satisfying and better set the tone for the rest of the game! We also hope that it will give players more of a reason to go back and replay these levels again! Will you be returning to these redux levels?

Again, we have much more to share, and it is coming in a future update.

April Fools!

Today is April 1st. Do we need to say more?

Warning: it's probably wise to turn the volume down if you want to watch the below spoof!

We warned you!

Also, did you spot the improvements to part of the Playground at the very end of the video?

Heliotropism - Verde
Teams Thoughts
To avoid making a way too big announcement here and to be able to answer everyone's questions adequately, Verde will be posting detailed information about the mechanic changes soon in the Community Hub, you can find it here.

Additions
    10 New Mutations
Two of them are locked behind new unlocks. Detailed information about them in the in-depth post in the community hub
    Late game crises
We've noticed from your feedback that the game was pending towards the easier side as the years go by, so we figured out we could give it a little twist with some strong crises that only happen from the third year onwards. With the two new crises: Thunderstorm and Harmful Pesticides, winning should not be taken for granted after the second year. More about them in the community hub.
    New Widgets
With both of them being player suggestions from the community hub, we introduced a capacity meter to show how many resources your tree can hold and a Winter Intensity predictor that tells you exactly how cruel the next winter is going to be.
    Cold Resistance mechanic
Several mutations used to reduce how much winter drained energy on specific stem tiles, however, this was severely inconsistent. We introduced a mechanic to unify all of these, more details will be included in the in-depth post.

Balance changes
    Changed shop and Winter scalings
While the first year remained untouched, from the third year and onwards the shop should have higher prices and winter starts getting harder in the second year. These changes should affect all game modes but are way easier to notice on the Speed Sprout(aka hard)
    New Loss Condition
Having no stem tiles now means you are deadOld loss conditions still apply.
    Small changes
Resilience can no longer make a crisis shorter than one dayBeacon of Eden effect: 2 -> 1Pollution cost increase: +1 -> x2Removed a bug that made Junipery apply 9 times

Other Changes
    Visual changes
Several visual changes were made in an attempt to make the game visual less noisy overall. What do you think about these changes? Do you like them? Do you hate them? Let us know.
    Auto leaf replacement
Now it is way faster and should work properly with the Amazonian Canopy mutation.
    Flying resources
Now have a less predictable path towards their objective, they should orbit their objective a bit before going in.

Fixes
Fixed unlocks menu not being able to display a big number of unlocksReduced the amount of floating leaf tiles
Intruder - Silverballer

Agents!

We are very glad to announce that we have updated the Falcon, it is now its very own gadget!

After a lot of feedback from the community and requests to make Intruder more realistic, we realized that the Banana was too ineffective at long range, while the Falcon was ineffective at close range...

So we combined them to make the ultimate weapon that works at ANY distance! (Patent pending)

Check it out, Agents:

Make sure to jump in game before Sunday, April 3rd to get a chance to try it out before it is taken out of the armoury!

To make the update even more enjoyable, we'll add a 200% EXP Boost until Monday, April 4th!

Fixes and changes:

Weapon upgrades aside, we have been busy polishing the game for this update. A couple fixes being:
  • Fix for smoke grenades and other objects sometimes passing through walls.
  • Fix for some bullet penetration bugs.

There is also an update for Map Maker 2.083:
  • Goober Grenade and Upgraded Falcon pickups added.

Oceanside received some love as well:
  • Adjusted the lighting across the entire map. It may look slightly different from the previous version.
  • Added cardboard boxes near the Tall Window.
  • Added the ability to raise the TV via the switch on the wall.
  • Fixed a route that allow Guards to climb up a set of rocks faster than intended.
  • Fixed some rock and bush LODs switching at too close of a range, which could allow you to see players from behind cover.
  • Fixed some occlusion issues.
  • Added more piano sounds.
Find the full changelog for Oceanside here.

Those Who Came: Healing Solarus - Bluelikevelvet

Greetings, explorers!
Just a week ago the Game Developers Conference at San Francisco closed its doors in California. After the attendance of the Videogame Industry's various Media and Influencers at the fair, some data has taken both assistants and followers of the event off guard.

Truth is that in comparison with the previous fair held during 2019, and where nearly 30K Industry professionals attended, 2022's GDC only reached 12K assistants in real life. A not so promising data for the Gaming world, even less when we take the recent news of this years' E3 cancellation into account.

Nevertheless, with all the technological novelties, technical advances and a COVID-19 crisis almost under control, the future of gaming has all the cards on favor for a revival during next editions of the fair. The words of GDC 2022's GDC organiser Katie Stern confirm: “The learnings, accomplishments and people that have made up GDC 2022, have made it clear that the video game industry community is stronger than ever and we’re already so excited for what is to come in GDC 2023.”

We must highlight that Rolldbox Games has attended as an expositor for the first time at the Spanish Pavillion, presenting the Demo of the polished product that soon will be Those Who Came, and it was greatly welcomed! Soon this Demo will be live here on Steam for all gamers to play!

Overall GDC 2022 has been a beautiful experience that we hope we can retake the upcoming year 2023.

See you next year, GDC!

In the meantime, why don't you join our Discord community today for more feedback and in real time chats with devs? We welcome all feedback 24/7!!

Happy gaming!

A small update in which I decided to add a difficulty level. When creating a world, you can choose the difficulty:
  • Standard - all as it was before the update.
  • Easy - oxygen and food are consumed twice as long
Also, a small fix of the game build was carried out and now the game should work better on the x64 bit version of windows! ːbigboltː

Who's Edil?
Edil is a young orphan under Jivan's protection. He saw something in her.

Since then, Edil has shown a flair for magic, although her desire to wield a sword is no great secret.

Unfortunately, Edil is still not allowed to leave Hafin, at least until Jivan feels she is ready.
