The horror genre is an extensive one. There are dozens of utterly terrifying horrors and many less scary ones. There are slashers and there are psychological horrors. Some focus on jumpscares, some on building the mental tension. So, how did we make Lust from Beyond scary?
Lust games are psychological horrors, first and foremost. There are a few well-placed jumpscares here and there but we decided to focus mainly on the atmosphere and the mystery aspect.
We drew our inspiration from Lovecraft’s stories, famous for the way they can build up dread in the readers. We strived to do something similar. The player is faced with the unknown all the time. Starting with the obvious, the foreign (and dangerous) dimension of Lusst’ghaa, and ending with the player experiencing the main character’s strange dreams and visions. What should be a pleasure, causes uneasiness and pain.
The player is thrown into the conflict between two cults waging war with one another. They’re surrounded by mysteries all the time. They’re a pawn in the cults’ power plays and there seems to be little what that can do. Everyone wants something but never telling the player their motives or relying on half-truths. It amplifies the feeling of hopelessness and dread.
What is more, you play as a human being – perhaps not as ordinary as it seems, yet still a fragile human. As a survival horror, Lust from Beyond requires you to fight occasionally. And these encounters are by no means easy. Oftentimes you are at a disadvantage from the start and need to strain your mind to find a solution.
We have made sure that the ambience of the game is fitting to the motifs. We’ve gone to a real abandoned mansion, with creaking floorboard and whistling drafts, and we recorded sounds there. If you hear someone walking on the wooden floors in the game, it is an actual sound of footsteps in a decrepit old house. Ambient and music always play an important role in creating the atmosphere.
Do you think you will be able to play Lust from Beyond: M Edition without your heart racing? You’ll soon find out! Wishlist today and don’t miss the February 10 release!
I hear all of you saying there is nothing to do which i get so i have now implemented a objective's. So now you will have to find the stars i have planted in each map but its not as easy as you think you will need to use your double jump and wall run to get to some of the stars, some of the stars are out in the open and some of them are hid. But i am listening to the reviews and i shall correct my mistakes.
Whats in this update you may ask.
