Hello Hellsweepers,

On behalf of the Hellsweeper VR team, we would like to thank everyone for participating in our Alpha Demo!

Community feedback plays a huge role in helping us mold Hellsweeper VR into a game that YOU would love to play. And based on the hundreds of responses that we received, it’s humbling and encouraging to know that an overwhelming number of you seemed to have enjoyed the demo and are excitedly looking out for the full game launching Q3 this year.



Your Feedback
During the past few months, we've read each and every one of your comments and suggestions, and zoomed in on the requests that were frequently brought up like alternative reloading mechanics, better weapon feedback, improved enemy AI, more accessible and intuitive controls across various devices and more.

A few of you also pointed out issues with underwhelming sound effects, lack of music and a couple of odd-looking graphical assets -- but don’t worry, most of these were either placeholders or still under production.

Lastly, we’d like to assure you that although the demo was only playable using select PCVR devices, Hellsweeper VR will be available on various PC and mobile VR headsets during and after its launch.

What’s in the oven?
Since we released the demo in September 2021, our team has been diligently making all the fixes and working on some really awesome suggestions from the community. We've also gone full-speed on development and have started swapping out early placeholders with the final assets. Here’s a quick one, with more surprises to come soon!




Along with content, we've also been fine-tuning the gameplay mechanics.

Sometimes, enemies are determined to take you with them. Minions now crawl to you with determined passion whenever their upper body remains. This makes you more aware of your surroundings and ensures you keep them down for good.



Many of you suggested adding elemental variants of the enemies to complement the player's elemental magic skill tree. We heard you!



We're still working on the rest of the gang but here are some previews. Elemental enemies don't just come with elemental abilities and resistances, they also have some unique attacks that require different offensive and defensive strategies to weed them out.





Last 2 weeks to play the Alpha Demo!
Finally, as we focus all our energy and resources into making sure that we deliver a kickass game -- and hopefully, on time! -- we would also like to announce the closing of our alpha demo. The last day to access and play the alpha demo will be on 31st January 2022.

But don't worry. We’ll be actively updating and sharing progress of the game, such as content and gameplay sneak previews, with the community so don’t forget to regularly check our Steam forum or join our discord channel. In the meantime, you can check out our development roadmap here. We'll update the scope and content as we go along.

Hellsweeper VR’s full release is scheduled for Q3 2022.

As you guys can see, we haven’t released our weekly update this week. Because we are focusing our energy on improving and completing our major update before the Lunar New Year. The following contents will be included in the major update:

NPC Factions System

We have added 5 new Factions
4 of which are from unique cultural regions. And these Factions can provide you with up to 25 new buildings, 4 new crops and 17 new recipes as your reputation level increases gradually after completing events and trading with them.
As for the 5th one, he is the merchant who take advantage of the fruits of your hard labor in the previous version.
In addition, the new Trade Mechanism and Wonder Buildings are highly related to these Factions and will be introduced in detail in the following sections.
We hope that introducing these Factions into game can bring you more interesting experience.
Before they are officially brought into the game, let me introduce you to some of the contents that may arouse your interest.

New Buildings and Recipes
New Crop - Cactus
You may ask whether cactus normally grows in the desert? And currently there isn’t a desert terrain on map...
Well, that won’t be a problem for our art designer if she could do some OT work...(Wait, put down the knife! Please! Someone! Stop her!!!


New Building -Temple of Kukulcán
Originating from the Mayan civilization, El Castillo is an ancient building mainly used for praying and sacrificing.
While in the game, it will serve as a resting place for those citizens who have passed away.
I know that many gamers who are familiar with South American culture will have different opinions on the role of this sacred building.
But! It’s like a unlimited version of Cemetery, my friend. This idea is way more humane than the one saying burning the dead and dump them into the river requested by some “brutal players”, isn't it?


New Recipes - Bamboo basket
As long as you can obtain the raw materials - Bamboo, you can start to mass produce Basket which can increase the citizens’ carry weight.
But how can you get the bamboo? Well you will know then.
Yes, the panda is just put there for decoration which has nothing to do with the contents.(Whatever you will say, cuteness is justice!).

New Wonder Buildings
There's good news and bad news about the Wonder Buildings.
The good news is, we've added 2 new Wonder Buildings.
The bad news is that in future games, the Wonder Buildings can only be unlocked after reaching the highest reputation level of Factions. In other words, friends who have not yet built the Wonder Buildings, please seize the last opportunity to build them without reputation restriction.

Wonder Building - Great Palace
The prototype of the Great Palace is the core building of the Daming Palace in the Tang Dynasty, which is also called Hanyuan Palace.
As one of the most powerful Factions in human civilization at that time, the Tang Empire managed the largest population on the earth at that time with an efficient official system. In addition, they maintained a very friendly relationship with other civilizations at that time.

The effect of the Great Palace also comes from the characteristics of this great empire:
:Lantern: The Great Palace is a special Town Hall building that will have all the functions of a Town Hall.
:Lantern: It also has 5 additional Administrator position (slots), allowing the player to hire up to 10 administrators.
:Lantern: Its construction will increase the player's reputation with any other Factions by 100%.



Trading Mechanism Overhaul
In general, we have reworked the entire trade system except for the original merchant ship visits, and at the same time, the entire trade technology branch has also been reworked.


The new trade system will bring you the following conveniences and opportunities:
ːorbː More Relaxing Start
Basic trade buildings are now enabled by default, meaning you no longer have to rely on Tech trees to start earning your initial currency.

ːorbː Auto Trading
Compared to before, you may need to spend more time setting trade goals and executing the trade caravan, but after completing these settings, the caravan can regularly sell and buy goods according to your settings, and now players can truly achieve centralized development Advantageous industries, in exchange for the cycle of scarce materials, I hope this can make the development options of the game more abundant, and avoid the embarrassment of players having to produce all materials by themselves, or order materials at high prices.


ːorbː Market Price Mechanism
Goods are bought and sold at different prices, and Factions are also willing to pay higher price for their favorite goods depending on their needs, which means that if you have enough time to check the price changes over time, you can even gain direct profit.
Of course, the market is not eternal, dumping the items will bring down prices, purchasing will bring prices up, and powerful businessmen are super smart, but if you are good at things like stock investment, crushing NPC's IQ is completely not a problem.


ːorbː Insurance
If conditions permit, you can purchase an insurance policy for your caravan, whether transporting by land or sea, and the insurance will provide you with some compensation in the event of a caravan in distress, avoiding one-time excessive losses.
As for why and when the caravan is in distress, we choose to understate it and pretend that this is not a big problem.
By the way, the risk of sea transportation is far greater than that of land, which should be known to everyone.

Spring Festival Events
Spring Festival is the most important reunion festival for Chinese people every year.
As a team from China, we have created some contents related to this festival for all of you during the Spring Festival.
Maybe for Chinese players, this is just a mere commonplace, but we sincerely hope that players in other parts of the world can also enjoy and experience the interesting contents during this special festival.

Posting the character "Fu" is a traditional Chinese New Year's custom. During Chinese New Year, every household will paste the big and small "Fu" characters on the doors and walls of their houses. Posting blessings expresses people's yearning for a happy life and wishes for a better future. But you may find that people often paste the word "Fu" upside down. Why is this?
Of course, it is not because they are illiterate, but because the folks simply put the word "福" upside down to express "happiness is flowing down(into them)" in order to more fully reflect the yearning and wish for happiness. This is also like an interesting homophonic meme, representing the people's beautiful vision for a happy life.

This is a major update, and the part of the game’s essential has been radically expanded. This brings the gaming experience one step closer to an RPG. The transition from reality to supernatural experience in the game’s fiction world is becoming more and more solid and fluent.

Update content:
1. Core system of Element Damage/Ailment introduction
"Elements Fatals"

The attack of some weapons will add damage with the element attribute. This part was only shown as a visual effect in the previous versions, such as the water stain of the mop, the current that spreads on the body when Vertue hits it, and the Luori ignites the body parts when it hits , etc. Today, these visuals have practical effects to match. One part of it is the damage caused by the elements. When it is dealt to the enemy, it will be displayed in the form of a number next to the physical damage with the corresponding color and icon.
The corresponding relationship between the colors is as follows:
Orange - Fire
Light blue - Ice
Indigo - Electric
Grey-green - Water

Attribute damage will cause a fixed life loss with any form of attack, regardless of the attack action or the positional relationship between the attacker and the victim at the time of the hit.

When the damage is dealt, the ailment state meter will be accumulated according to the ailment multiplier of the weapon. When the meter value exceeds the character's resistance, the ailment state corresponding to the element will be triggered. When the player character ailment value accumulates, it will be displayed in the middle of the screen in the form of a meter.


The following are descriptions of the various ailment states:

Fire Element - Burn:
Last for 10s. Every 0.5s, it takes 5% of the maximum life damage, and 50% of the maximum life damage in total.


Ice Elemental - Freeze:
During the continuous 20s, the stamina value will stay at zero and cannot be recovered in any way, resulting in the inability of sprinting, attacking, kicking and other actions.


Electric Element - Shock:
An out-of-control state in which no action can be performed for 3 seconds.


Water Elemental - Erosion:
Lasts for 40s, during which the Endurance is cleared, causing the stamina to be capped to a fixed maxium value of 50, and the blunt weapon damage received is increased by 10 points. Sitting down for the duration does not restore health.


After the ailment state is triggered, the corresponding ailment accumulated value will be cleared and will not increase in any form during the period. Re-accumulation is only possible after the status ends.

The character's base resistance to all four elemental ailments is 100. The four basic attributes of the character, Vitality, Endurance, Strength, Agility, the part exceeding 10 can increase the resistance of the four ailment attributes of fire, ice, electricity and water respectively, by 1 for 1.

2. New Weapon - Flash Light
"Don't move!"

  • This is the outfit for the museum security, using a new set of moves. It can be used as a flashlight or as a self-defense tool.
  • Blunt weapon, base attack power 4, lightning damage 3, shock multiplier 10.
  • As the initial weapon of the protagonist of the museum level.

5. Enhanced the effect of character shadows.

  • This effect requires the "Character Shadow" option to be turned on among the Graphic options.
  • Character shadows become more distinct.
  • More object surfaces will receive the cast of the character's shadow.

6.Improve the control

9. Character effect improvement

  • The lighting effect of the heroine Pi Sicen in some levels has been improved.
  • Added ragdoll effect after the character is down.

10. VFX Improvements

  • The effect of electric attribute attacks has been improved.
