We will be introducing a feature called [Assist Points] with the coming Highlanders season. You will gain these by contributing to your team, and therefrom earn a reasonable increase in rating and rewards.
Why are we introducing Assist Points?
The short answer: to give players more freedom of choice in battle, and more strategic options. In previous iterations, our battle rating system has favored those who wreck the most carnage upon their foes, while leaving behind Warlords who take on a bigger support role. E.g., the Imperial Pike Guards' Advance skill is a great option to crowd-control the Modao Battalion, giving your allies a better chance at taking them out. While they didn't take down the enemy themselves, they obviously contributed greatly to the battle. Some more examples would include a longsword & shield hero who can heal allies or crowd-control enemy heroes and units; the glaive hero who can buff the damage of allies for a short period; the shortsword & shield hero which can use the Thunderstruck skill to break the enemy's formation.
While all of the above examples greatly affect the outcome of a battle, they give near-to-no battle scores whatsoever. Warlords bring support-type units to aid their allies, but aren't rewarded for it. This has led to a decline in the willingness of players to use support units, making battles less diversified. So, we're introducing [Assist Points] to re-balance the value gained from supportive actions, which hopefully will lead to greater diversity in terms of strategic choices. To reiterate, you will in the new version gain Assist Points by supporting your allies, be it with your hero or units, and in doing so gain better scores than previous rating system.
Which actions count as Assist Points? And how do they affect your Assist Points?
Buffing the attack and defense of allies.
Healing allies.
Crowd-controlling enemies to create an opening for greater damage to be dealt.
Tanking and sustaining damage for your allies.
Of the aforementioned four scenarios, only [Damage Taken] currently grants a bonus to your battle score. Meaning that the other three new additions will contribute more to the Assist Points in this update. However, there are naturally protentional problems with this, one of them being: a player spam-buffing just to farm score. That's why we've gone a step further, by introducing Valid Assist Actions (VAA).
As you can imagine, VAAs are actions that actually end up being beneficial to the battle's outcome. If we take the new Highlanders unit Bagpipers as an example: They can buff the attack and defense of allied heroes and units. If they choose to buff attack, and those buffed by them do not deal any damage whatsoever, then the buff obviously didn't play any part in the battle's outcome, thus, it won't grant Assist Points. This further means that how, and when, you use your supportive buffs and skills will play an integral part in the score you earn.
Similarly, only heals that actually restore health or skills that end up crowd-controlling enemies grant Assist Points. Owing to these changes, Warlords who use for example the Imperial Pike Guards, Sigrun's Shieldmaidens, or the new season's Bagpipers, to help their allies in battle can receive a high battle score, even if they do not end up damaging or killing enemy heroes or units.
And Finally—A New Start
Conqueror's Blade strives to provide a realistic medieval combat experience, and the truth is that real battles are complex, an amalgamation of different elements. This naturally means that a great variety of units are required. We sincerely hope that this new Assist Points feature will bring about more joy with more varied gameplay and that it will make playing a more supportive style viable. But each new feature or change that is introduced, is bound to create ripples in one way or another. We are fully prepared for that, and this update will serve as a new start on our journey for a better game. We will continue to work hard to resolve your gripes with the game, continue to optimize it, bring about better balance, and more varied gameplay. Finally, once again thank you for your comments and encouragement. We would love for you to continue sharing any issues or feedback you encounter while playing, so that we may improve Conqueror's Blade even further, creating a fairer and more fun experience.
New information about Space Mechanic Simulator development progress from the last weeks is here!
The following weeks passed very quickly, we made quite a few changes, in order to unify the vision we had to make some changes to some missions and align them quite significantly with the rest of the project.
In addition, we are working on lighting inside the facilities, improvements to the menu interface, implementation of completely new mini-games, and more
Furthermore, we’d like to thank everyone once more for supporting us and sharing your feedback on our forums, social networks. Remember that all the videos, screenshots shown above are from a WIP build, they don’t reflect the final version of the game.
We rolled out one new map during both the Northmen and Dynasty season (Heilung Fjord & Linwu Fortress), and now with the Highlanders season comes Quinn Ruins. I am sure many of you are curious to see what it looks like and that's what we'll be exploring next, this sacred land of the Celtlish!
Background Info
The Quinn Ruins is a sacred place for the Celtlish. Legends say that the first settlers were so captivated by the view that they settled down here. However, it was destroyed during the invasion and their relic was stolen—the Stone of Destiny. The Celtlish have banded together now that the flames of war ravage the Highlands.
Strategic Highlights
Quinn Ruins is made up of a village and a lakeside area to the east. The ground rises higher the further east you go until it ends in a cliff. Having occupied the ruins, the Wealish army made camp within the castle ruins and used the village's resources to erect defenses, artilleries, and traps. Even so, the Celtlish were familiar with the lay of the land and found many directions from which to attack.
One point of attack is from the village's southernmost point. There isn't much in terms of obstacles, but tar traps that set units ablaze. Tread carefully to avoid suffering heavy losses from the traps.
A is located in the square surrounded by dwellings. The attacker can use these as cover and avoid being attacked from the sentry post. A can also be reached from a narrow passageway to the eastern side, which can also be used to harass the defenders' supply points. Naturally, by attacking from the west it becomes easier to claim the sentry post and gain the height advantage.
There is a special point within the sentry post where the defenders can use Incendiary Catapult to harass the attacker or to create flaming traps. By claiming this point, the attacker extends the map time and makes it easier to assume control of this area. In doing so, they will also gain access to the Incendiary Catapult with which they can pelt the defenders. Though, the entrance of the sentry post is narrow and is surrounded by wooden walls and palisades, making it easy to defend while very difficult to attack.
B is located between the village and the castle, meaning that the defenders must defend B and supply point by the narrow mountain path at the same time. They must also remain vigilant to defend the sentry posts and the catapult. Naturally, the attackers can use the narrow paths to assault B and use the Incendiary Catapult if they captured the sentry post.
Finally, the final camp is located in an empty space of the castle ruins directly beside the cliffs. The attackers can attack via two passageways and should attempt to attack from multiple directions within the ruins as the terrain is complex.
Map Mechanics
Incendiary Catapult
There is an Incendiary Catapult at the sentry post with which one can hurl combustible canisters that deal continuous damage to forces in an area. Interact with the nearby artillery toggle to deploy it.
Tar Traps
Tar traps are spread out in the open space at the village entrance. These traps can be set ablaze with fire attacks to deal damage over time to heroes and units in the area.
