Monstrous Masquerade next week!
You are officially invited to the Monstrous Masquerade next Thursday. The event will take place at an undisclosed location. Not much about this mysterious and very formal special Mogloween event is known. Except for the fact that I am still in the process of writing it XD. The last thing I wrote was the Tower of Necromancy. This release will be a bit more... cozy. So the entire event will take place in a grand ballroom. If you do not already have a mask and formal attire, do not worry... there are PLENTY to collect from this event. So if you are in the mood for some classic AE-style "light hearted dark humor" bring some friends and join us for next week's Masquerade.
Thank you to you and all of the players supporting the game and making our weekly releases possible. If you get this year's 2021 Mogloween Collector's Chest, you will also receive a rare badge and title.
See you in game.

We have wonderful news for you today! We revamped some stuff, got a new incredible map, and much more interesting stuff, so buckle up and let’s get right into it!
Clockworks - New map!
Clockworks stage is the newest addition in our map pool in Animal Rivals: Up In The Air! It’s a huge map situated in a clock tower with lots of s-p-o-o-k-y things, like spiders, cogwebs, bridges and more, so you will have a LOT to explore. We can’t wait to release the game and show you more!
Rings Particle Update
We needed to upgrade our particle system in rings, so we did! And we want to hear your feedback. We think it looks incredible, let us know what you think!
Shark Particle System Update
We also had a chance to revamp a weapon for our lovely animal - shark! Look how smooth it looks, we can’t wait for you to use it against your animal rivals! Trust us - this one will bring you much fun while eating your friends!
We have A LOT of work on our hands lately, so we are going to wrap this devlog here, because there is much more to come, and we will let you know about all of it soon! Take care, fly safe and until next time, Beasts!
Fall is here and the weather is beginning to cool. We hope you all are staying healthy and enjoying the latest update which brought scent to the game. As some of you may or may not know, Jao's dogs had a litter of pups (pictured below) and he has been taking a break to focus on their care during their first few weeks of life.
So, this month has been a lot of focus on bringing to life the creatures that inhabit the world by creating beawesome animations and creatures. Now... let's see what everyone has been working on this month!
Animations
Our animation team has been working hard on bringing our creatures to life! The Flame Stalker's land, water, and flight locomotion animations are completed as well as his base attacks and rests. Next we will be focusing on his action animations, including his eating, drinking, and base emotes. It's safe to say he is about 50% done with his adult animations. Check out some of his animations below...
Flame Stalker Bite
Flame Stalker Bile Attack
Flame Stalker Hover
Flame Stalker Flight
Flame Stalker Lay
Flame Stalker Sleep
We have finished the Swamp Snappers animations! These animation previews might make you think twice about going near the water...
Swamp Snapper Walk
Swamp Snapper Basking
Swamp Snapper Swim
Swamp Snapper Bite
Swamp Snapper Stealth Lunge Attack
Next, we are getting ready to begin animating the Inferno Ravager, but before we can it will need to be rigged. While the rig is begin created, we are working on additional emote animations to help your dragon express their true feelings. Here is a taste of two of the new emotes featuring everyone's favorite sizzle boy.
Acid Spitter Mourn Emote
Acid Spitter Rage Emote
Models
Over on the model side of things, Jia Hao has just finished the Cave Cutter model. This AI creature will blend in very well with its environment and be a creature you don't want to face alone. The average size of the Cave Cutter dwarfs an adult Acid Spitter.
Cave Cutter model
The Blitz is also finished. Hao finalized his different age and sex morphs this week. The male Blitz Striker will have larger spikes than the female and, of course, the baby will be adorable.
Finished Blitz Striker Adult morphs and WIP Alpha morphs
Blitz Striker Hatchling morph
Brigade is working on the next corpse for the game. The dragon corpse will replace the current drake corpse for when a dragon has been mainly eaten. We currently have the pose and skeleton done and are moving on to the fleshy bits.
Dragon Carcass WIP
VFX
With the preparation for quests, Flicker has been working on some of the possible cosmetic quest rewards; ambient AI creatures. Similar to the Sky Jellies, these critters will float around the dragon when equipped. Check out some of the critters we've made so far...
Bumbler
Sky Slug
Dragon Wasp
Elvenbug
That's all for this month's dev blog! Don't forget to check out our weekly Dev Dairies (posted on Kickstarter) for weekly updates.

@JoshingtonState and @ModularMareBear here! It’s been a while since we’ve written one of these, so we just want to start by saying that we’re massively grateful to everyone in the community for your continued passion and excitement for everything the team here at Midwinter is working on. We all feel very heartened to have such a fantastic community behind us all the way.
Now, as we get closer to the end of the year, we wanted to give an update on a number of different things that we have going on here at Midwinter. We know that you’re all very eager for news on consoles, new features and the upcoming full release, so we wanted to address what the coming months looks like and where we’ll be focusing our efforts to the benefit of improving the Scavengers experience for everyone.
2022 IS THE NEW 2021
The first thing - to get it out of the way - is that we are no longer targeting general availability for Scavengers on PC in 2021. That means that we will be remaining in Early Access through the rest of 2021 and into the new year.
There are a number of decisions behind the shift but it ultimately comes down to our commitment to quality. We’re a small development team, and it’s important to us that we do not compromise when it comes to the player experience. We’ve always stated that Early Access is (and continues to be) an extension of our previous testing cycles. As we reflect on the journey to date, we all feel that the transition to full release needs to be a meaningful advancement from where we are today. Which leads to the question...
WHAT’S NEXT?
Over the coming months, we are going to do everything we can to raise the bar when it comes to Scavengers. To do that, we’ve had to be honest with ourselves with how we approach development and support the title as it stands today.
To be frank, there are going to be fewer updates as the team focuses on what we feel will be exciting and momentous updates to the game that will take shape in early 2022.
What does this look like?
The future of Expedition mode: We’re making big changes to the core mode in Scavengers, and that’s why we need to focus our attention on getting it just right. What we can tell you right now is that we’re striving to make matches feel less repetitive, and give you a more dynamic experience every time you hit the snow. We’ll be revealing more details about this in the weeks ahead.
At the end of the month, we will be turning off Horde Mode. We know that this will be disappointing for some players, and it is not a decision we take lightly (and it may return at some point in the future). However, we have seen a steady decline in player numbers for the mode over recent months, which made it less viable to support it going forward. This extra team bandwidth will be put towards enhancing the game's core experience.
There will be fewer ScavLab events in the future. We have been working closely with Improbable’s London studio on ScavLab over the past several months. However, going forward, Midwinter will focus exclusively on Scavengers, while the London team takes full control of all ScavLab events. Stay tuned for news from them on future events.
Console alpha testing will continue in the weeks ahead. We’ll also be releasing more keys as we look to increase the volume of user feedback and make improvements to the experience.
We will be reducing the number of feature updates in the coming months, as all of our team focus their energies on this next phase of the game. The Winter’s Fury season will continue to play out, and there will be intermittent patches and hot fixes, but there will be a drop in frequency of new features.
There’s still exciting things to look forward to though. In the coming months we will introduce our next Explorer, as well as welcoming the arrival of our new fearsome boss encounter, Bulwark, who’ll be out for blood when he hits the icy climes of Cascade Springs.
TALKING COMMUNITY
This also impacts how we will be interacting with you - our players and our community. Don’t panic! We’re not going anywhere. Instead, we want to streamline our communication, make it more impactful and not be in a position where we’re over-promising or setting the wrong expectations.
We’re going to try some new ways for you to directly engage with us, which we feel will be more rewarding for both us as a studio and you as our community. There will be less focus on communications around the minutiae of our work. Instead, we’ll be rolling out activities and events that’ll give us more opportunities to come together in fun and interesting ways, including:
More direct feedback and engagement through Game Nights (playing Scavengers with us), more ‘Dunk the Dev’ sessions, Discord Stage events (where you’ll get a chance to talk directly to us) and hopefully, future livestreams and AMAs. Keep an eye out for these in the coming weeks!
We will be reducing the frequency of our Dev Focus updates, while we hunker down to focus on the core game. New posts will arrive when we’re able to provide you with more comprehensive and exciting updates on what the team have been working on and upcoming plans.
Look forward to Seasonal Festivities! We’ve got a festive period coming up and we’d like to celebrate them with you. Keep an eye out for fun, seasonal activities and content soon.
If you have any questions on the above then make sure to jump into our Discord where we’ll answer them as best we can.
We understand that there may be some disappointment in response to today’s update. These are some big changes, but we strongly believe that they are changes for the better. Once again, everyone here at Midwinter appreciates your dedication, support and patience as we continue this journey, and we look forward to sharing more information with you in the coming weeks and months. Until then...
The ravenous hordes are waiting for you because there is just one day to go before the launch of Path of Exile: Scourge! In this news post, we've gathered all the information you need to know about what happens on launch day and how to start downloading early.
The realm goes down and patching begins at: Oct 23, 2021 9:00AM PDT The servers go live at: Oct 23, 2021 12:00PM PDT
You can also find a countdown timer on the front page of our website here. Three hours before the end of the countdown, the realm will go down and patching will begin shortly after. When the countdown ends, the servers will be live and you'll be able to join the Scourge League!
The patch size for the update will be around 5.6GB on the standalone client and Steam. We've also made a torrent available for this update which is around 27GB. Please keep in mind that this method, while available earlier, makes it a larger update as it includes all the existing client content. When patching begins for Path of Exile: Scourge you'll also have a few remaining files that you'll need to update as well.
This torrent only includes the GGPK file, so you'll need to copy it into your actual install folder once the patching server is up, no earlier than three hours before Path of Exile: Scourge launches. Please note that you can't use this GGPK file with the Steam client and macOS.
Path of Exile: Scourge will launch on consoles at Oct 27, 2021 4:00PM PDT. Downtime will begin for deployment at approximately Oct 27, 2021 12:00PM PDT.
If you're looking for some extra character slots for the launch, we're running a sale on these right now! This is also your last chance to get Midnight Pact Mystery Boxes! It will leave the store when our next Mystery Box becomes available! Keep in mind that if you haven't taken advantage of it yet, it's still possible to get one free Midnight Pact Mystery Box when you spend any amount of points in the store. NOTE: this is only possible once per account. Additional purchases do not grant additional mystery boxes. If you need some extra points, we recommend checking out the Scourge Supporter Packs.
In case you still haven't decided which build to play with, check out the Class subsections on the forum for suggestions from the community. Many of our community streamers are also providing build guides on YouTube.
If you want a new look to match your build, check out the Nexus stores of your favourite creators for their favourite Armour Sets to support them as well as the development of Path of Exile!
We can't wait to see your latest adventures through Wraeclast. We'll see you at launch!
