The Unbeatable Path - RecklessGames
Hello friends of The Unbeatable Path,

to give regular development updates, we decided to post our progress of The Unbeatable Path every month from now on. You will also get any news or announcements in that kind of post. Have fun reading!

Team development
We are proud to announce that we have more manpower covering this project since September. This helps us to achieve a better quality in all aspects of the game. This should also help us reaching our goal of a early access release at the end of next year or the beginning of 2023.

Game progress
We are currently working hard to finalize our following todos:
  • Main Character: we are using a completely new and high-quality skeletal mesh for our main character "Mia". This mesh is still work in progress and needs some more polishing, especially for the different cloth textures.
  • User Interface: we worked a lot on the UI in the last months and have finished the design of it already. This design is currently being implemented for all our interface elements.
  • Movement system & animations: we've added several new animations for the main character and did an overhaul of the movement system in general. In detail, this means that we've replaced some of the existing animations, adjusted the timings of the animations, added new animations, defined a new movement speed and you are now able to strafe while crouching (this was highly requested by our community who tested the Indiegogo/Kickstarter demo).
  • Map progress: the first map, called "Rebirth" is almost finished and needs just some polishing. We also already started working on the second map, called "Awakening" which should be finished at the end of next month. For both of the maps there is mainly minor adjustments and some cutscenes missing which leads us to our next point.
  • Cutscenes: to create good looking cutscenes we are working with motion capturing animations which we are creating on our own with the help of the Rokoko SmartsuitPro & gloves. This system together with some keyframe animated events (with the help of control rigs) results in a good and affordable way to produce animations for our cutscenes.
  • Voiceovers: the voice over scripts for the first two maps are done and in November we will start recording those with the help of our voice actors.

Demo update
Today we've hidden the demo from the shop site since it does no longer reflect the game anymore, cause we are constantly improving all aspects of the game and won't stop doing so until the game is released. We mainly used the demo to have a very early build that we could show to our Kickstarter and Indiegogo supporters to give an insight of the look & feel of The Unbeatable Path.

Hello! I apologize for the radio silence, I've been extremely busy with school and with working on this update, even with the help of a premade asset, this has been one of the hardest things I've implemented into Smasher!

So, what's new?

Level Editor
The main event is the level editor, I've tried to give people a good mix of things to put into their levels and post them to the workshop, all from within the game. Please note that it's still likely buggy, and is not as feature-rich as I would have hoped. I've provided a 'coming-soon' list in game for features I plan to add to make the level creation process as seamless as possible. These additions will be non-destructive, of course, and levels posted now will continue to work, and be editable later on.

To get started, just click on 'level editor' on the title screen!

Some known issues:
  • Clicking and dragging on the transformation tools in the editor cause the camera to move, the temporary fix for this is to turn off Left-Mouse Camera Pan in the settings, and use middle mouse to pan instead
  • Breakable items may break while editing the level, they should load into the level fully correct, though.
  • Camera gets a bit close in Blueberry mode, but the range you can zoom out has been expanded to counteract this

Skin Maker
I've also implemented a skin maker in game, so now you don't have to do the quite frankly janky setup to create your own skin, nor do you need to know what a json is, or how to install mods, just download the template from in game, and plop the graphics in game.

This can be accessed from the "Mods > Skin Maker" menu.

This also allows skins to be uploaded to the workshop to be shared!




The rest of the game remains largely unchanged, barring small bugfixes here and there, due to how busy I've been, I've been trying to get this update out ASAP, so that you wonderful players will have something to play with and enjoy when I'm unable to regularly update the game with new levels and content!

Dear players!
I have been hard working on game and I have reacted several tips from you

* Welcome achievement bug fixed
* Changes in game interface. You can click on suspects and select weapon fire actions directly
* Units have more actions points - new default value is 10. You can do more actions during turn.
If you have skill points more than 40 - action points will increase to 11
If you have skill points more than 70 - action points will increase to 12
* Using explosives on doors have impact to suspects if stand close to the doors -
morale will be decreased, depend on how are distance between suspects and doors
* Fixed bug with map borders
* Better loading time of menu
