Hello everyone, it's been a long while since our last update, but we are now ready to share some news!
What is Matergari: Below Valesia?
The core of our game design is similar to that of ARPGs: players will roam inside a zone - a dungeon - while defeating foes and looting items. Our take on the genre sports a fully 2D pixel-art style with somehow less emphasis on action (e.g. melee combat is automated) and a more strategic approach as player's resources are limited between runs.
Should they happen to die, that run is lost but their character will revive in town with everything previously collected - ready to take over the next one! Some features are unlocked by progressing throughout a main, story-driven questline that will gradually unveil the lore behind this mysterious world and the origin of the threats.
Some Features
Character Development Power and progress are tied with items acquisition. Equipment is vital and every piece is grouped by slot: for example, Armor can be matched together to complete a set with defensive attributes, while Weapons will add unique modifiers to your attacks (more on this in a later post). A special mention for Relics, which will grant a plethora of abilities - ranging from raw damage spells to support/healing and even summons.
Expeditions A core part of the game activities centers on Expeditions: procedurally generated zones with objectives to complete in order to gradually increase the quality of their final rewards. Expeditions are meant to be both a complement to baseline story-driven progression, and a source of extra experience and loot for your character at every stage of the game.
Current State & Coming Next
As it stands right now, the gameplay loop is pretty much in place: character development, the first chapter of the story and expeditions are all functional and you will need around 3 to 5 hours of gameplay to explore said content. Meanwhile, the second chapter of the story is in the works along with additional expeditions and items.
With the game currently in closed beta state, we expect to hit the early access release quite soon. Also, over the course of the next weeks, additional details about itemization and lore will be revelated... so stay tuned!
