Aboard the ship this update is the Engineer! Well-equipped and trained to keep the ship in prime condition, he's ready to get this expedition well underway!
Starting Equipment
The Engineer will now spawn with a wood axe and a barrel (instead of a ice axe and barrel, as previously).
New Perk
The Engineer crafts/repairs faster. This includes crafting equipment/weapons as well as repairing equipment/weapons and the ship.
AI Upgrade
Polar Bears
Explorers have awoken an anger in these creatures. Polar Bears are now angrier, stronger, and smarter.
Polar Bears are dangerous creatures capable of killing entire hordes of explorers. With increased speeds, there is no use in running. Approach with extreme caution, and plenty of equipment.
Polar Bears have grown resilient, making their bites far deadlier.
Now more intelligent, these creatures will be sent into a fury if surrounded. They will have no choice but to use their radial slam attack, knocking anyone back who dares step foot in the area of effect. Too many traps will also trigger this rage in polar bears, destroying all traps that lie within the area of effect.
Cannibals
Cannibals can now reach beyond claw's reach. With a new ranged attack, they can hurl rocks at their prey.
New Thrall Ability
Thrall Vision
Thrall Vision is an active ability that Thralls can now utilize. Pressing V (by default) will allow Thralls to see the outlines of their allies, enemies, and food across the map.
Spell Targeting
Spell targeting has been improved so that Thralls can better tell who their friends and foes are, as well as being able to discern where exactly their spell is aimed.
New Repair System
Repairing your tools and weapons has never been easier! There is now an option available at workbenches to repair your items for no cost. Find a workbench and you're set.

PVP Season 9
Pre-season has ended and Season 9 will begin. Your Season 9 Rank will depend on your rank from Season 8. All ranks will go down by 3. The highest rank you can get from the reset is B1 and the lowest is D1. However, all E ranks will be reset to E1 Season Pass and Season Points and their associated rewards you acquired during the Pre-season will be maintained into the regular season. You can use them until end of Season 9.

Bug Fixes
• Fixed the bug where certain weapons’ effects were taking place in abnormal positions • Fixed the bug where weapon size would scale based on character’s Body Fat and/or Body Style during character customization. • Fixed the bug where If a character’s Maturity was lowered, certain attacks and skill effects became bigger. • Fixed the bug where Blazing Fist RMB charge grab followed by chase attack would drop the target if the target character had a specific Maturity. • Fixed the occasional bug where if you quickly rotated through multiple characters in character select, the currently selected character’s hair would be changed to a different character’s hair. • Fixed the bug where certain head accessories and gauntlet items would trail behind a moving character in Eltheca. • Fixed the bug where breakfall animation would occasionally happen twice. • Fixed the bug where if dash was repeated periodically, stamina would be used without activating dash. • Fixed the bug where if Blazing Fist user grabbed and started attacking a Bellatos Claymore Soldier, the monster would disappear or the monster’s gauge bar would disappear. • Fixed the bug where if Blazing Fist user used Blazing Strike in the opposite direction from where they were holding RMB, the character would slide first before activating the skill. • Fixed the bug where at 120 fps, if Dance of Wind user uses certain skills while attacking with Cover Fire, the character would sometimes slide.

Today I updated the beta in a pretty huge way, and usually I just post the changes / additions and etc on the dedicated thread about it here, but I think this might warrant an actual all official-like mention in this here post a roo. For those of you who are new to these, basically anytime I fart near this thing I quickly jot it down in GLORIOUS CAPS so that I don't forget. Since it'd take a dog's age to translate this into actual English, I just copy / paste and let 'er flow.

THE THIEF'S FIRST LEVEL 3 SKILL CHOICE IS NOW "SILENT SLASH", REPLACING "FLEE" AS I NEVER CHOSE THIS AND IT WASN'T SUPER HELPFUL AS A MAIN SKILL. "FLEE" IS NOW HANDLED BY THE AFOREMENTIONED CHICKEN STONES. This month’s patch brings us two new major mechanics plus a slew of UI and bug fixes.
New mechanics
Uprising
Uprising occurs when a planet is invaded. Now for 3 consecutive turns your newly invaded planet will produce zero resources (instead you see a fist) and half its star value. On the 4th turn you've held it, it will fully become your planet.
In addition, any developments that are on a planet you capture are no longer kept on the planet but instead stay with their original owner and are destroyed and discarded into the discard pile.
The net effect of this change is to make losing a planet to invasion less game ending. You still suffer a significant loss of course by losing a planet, but the invading player does not get the full value of the planet right away. This change makes it easier to come back from an early loss where one of your planets was captured unexpectedly.
Contest taxation
Before this patch, if an enemy ship was in orbit around your planet at the start of the next turn, you wouldn't be able to build anything anymore because the planet would be considered Contested.
While we didn't want to entirely remove this mechanic, we also felt it could lead to some early losses based purely on a surprise move or choice you made and didn't reflect well on the game dynamics we wanted to encourage.
As a result we ended up changing the way contesting works to instead make the cost of everything you build cost one extra Component. (which you can see with the new blinking cubes around and next to the sector) – So it still sucks if you are Contested, and it is still a meaningful strategy to do so, but it isn’t as back breaking when you suffer from it.
The overall effect of this change is that it is no longer possible to guarantee taking over a section of the map based purely on having some surviving ships. As a player you feel also less locked-out and more readily able to pull out an effective mid-game reversal.
As a secondary effect, players though should note that this 1-component penalty tax also applies to anything built on their commander! So having your commander contested is now more dangerous than it was before.
Improvements
Spacebar in battle now toggles you through the sectors
Random maps now always have at least 2 connections to your commander and 3 across the middle of the map

Fix for window screen sizes on monitor settings that were close to full screen and would result in the bottom of the game window not being visible

Fix for battle numbers being blue when they should not have been
Fixed AI sometimes not attacking
Ship model preview works again
Reloading a game no longer affects invasion numbers
Invasion replay from saved games no longer happens too late
Fixed an issue related to the tech-advance button in reloaded games
Fixed rare AI crash situations if sector was not loading correctly
Removed option to colonize in battle phase (was never intended to be possible!)
Next plans
We are testing universal shipyard options this month, plus working on:
Potential larger changes to the Invasion game mechanic
Better opponent replay information in the form of enemy movement trails
Further work on single player puzzles and tutorials
With of course bug fixes and many other features on our timeline!

Update 0.14.3.0 - Arcade: Phase 2
Work continues on the finishing touches for Arcade: Phase 2, introducing new games to the Arcade, and more.
We've created a forum post asking the community for suggestions on how we can improve gameplay for players with certain conditions such as colorblindness, dyslexia, or anything else that might affect a players ability to use the standard presentation and controls of the game.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, and possible solutions on how to solve a particular issue, please check out the forum post here.
Arcade - Phase 2
macdguy finished working on "Coloracle 2: Whose Hue?", "Ultimate Cow Wheel", "Dragon's Treasure", completing all of the gameplay for all of the machines. He worked with Madmijk to play test and fix any bugs that appeared with the machines during the play test. He also optimized the leaderboard screens, and helped populate the Arcade with attract sounds for the new games.
Madmijk worked on stats and achievements for the new games, along with helping play test and discover bugs with the new machines.
Sketchman worked on icons for the achievements for all of the new machines.
Will finished working on music and sounds for all of the new machines.

Zombie Massacre
macdguy worked on improving controller support for Zombie Massacre. He fixed bugs where players were unable to aim on certain maps, and added rumble feedback for firing and reloading. When using a controller in Zombie Massacre, the cursor will now hide and the cursor indicators (Gun Ammo remaining for example) will appear next to the player.

Condo I/O
macdguy worked a bit on the upcoming Condo I/O system. He finalized the design for input/output. Using the system, players will be able to have multiple outputs from one item to another item, along with the ability to determine what that output does to the corresponding item. For example, a player can tie a Key Pad event of "On Success" to a door that will unlock the door when the "On Success" event fires. Alternatively, the Key Pad can tie an event of "On Failure" to the door to set the door on fire.
He also implemented delays into all the output events, allowing the player to chain output events. For example, a player could have a button that opens a door, then 2 seconds later, play a sound, then 3 seconds later begin moving a spiked wall.
Miscellany
macdguy worked on improving the Setting Menu to add a panel that is intended to explain in more detail what each setting does.
Sketchman continued working on improvements and optimizations, looking into issues with voice chat, working on implementing the server browser backend, fixes and tweaks to condo saving, and more.
Wheezwer continued working on new Plaza posters, and started working on concept art for the planned Accelerate map, "Archenemypelago".
