Sector's Edge - Vercidium
Hey all,

Servers will be down from 9am GMT - 3pm GMT tomorrow while we upgrade a lot of our backend servers in preparation for v1.3.6d and the Attachment Update. Downtime might only be a couple hours but I'm allocating a long time slot just in case.

There are a lot of great things coming to Sector's Edge in the next couple weeks. `v1.3.6d` will be releasing tomorrow after the downtime period. I'll attach the full changelog tomorrow but the main points are:

Fixes:
- Peacekeeper now functions properly in the Arena
- Fixed issues where parties were placed on the wrong team during initial team creation
- Fixed issues with selecting maps in the Lobby Panel and claiming lobbies
- Fixed transaction log scrolling
- Potential fix for the mixed up UI layout
- Fixed a lot of party joining/invite issues

Changes:

- Removed the structure overheat mechanic
- Players can now press space in any game mode to spawn as close as possible to the action, or join an existing cluster spawn
- KDR is now included in the player balancing equation
- Upgraded to .NET 5.0 for performance and all-round stability
- Huge backend cleanup and database optimisations
- Engine and runtime stability improvements

Additions:
- Wasteland map (CTF, Escort, Breakthrough, Control Shift). It's a big flat desert wasteland, we haven't tried a map like this yet
- Reintroduced the Capture the Flag game mode
- CTF and Escort are now available on Aegis Desert, Crashed Freighter, Ice Station, Magma Chamber and Soltrium Temple


The Attachment Update (v1.4)
We resumed work on the Attachment Update this week and things are going smoothly. Check out our Trello for full details: https://trello.com/b/uL2IKmgI/sectors-edge-roadmap

This update also includes AI bots that will fill empty slots in public lobbies! This has been a commonly requested feature and I am enjoying working on it. Here's some clips of them in action:



This update will contain new external animations for swimming, jumping, falling, landing and refreshed animations for walking/strafing/running that are smoother and have leaning variants. Here's a sneak peek!



The Canyon map will be introduced in this update, which supports Breakthrough, Control Shift, Capture the Flag and Escort game modes:

Progressions will also receive a revamp with more rewards and exponential levelling so it's less grindy at the lower levels. No one will lose progression experience, it will all be transferred over to the new system :)



Patreon
After the Attachment Update releases, Rocket and I will both be returning to full-time work for ~6 months and progress on Sector's Edge will slow down. While this sucks, we are excited for the future of the game and have partnered with a marketer who will be helping more players find Sector's Edge.

During these 6 months we will be sponsoring streamers and helping more people find the game. We have also started a Patreon page, where we will post new and upcoming content before its public release, as well as WIP screenshots and videos of what we're currently working on. The money we earn through Patreon will go towards sponsoring streamers and keeping the game servers running.

We'll still be around working on the game each day, but we won't have as much time as we used to. After this update we'll be improving the tools around community map creation to keep new content coming in.

Conqueror's Blade - katiezenn
As the Olympic torch majestically burns above the newest batch of elite athletes for Tokyo 2021, one can’t help but wonder about the Olympic games of old. Ancient Greeks are known as the inventors of competitive sports events dating way back to 776 B.C, but did other ancient cultures come up with their own too?

It turns out - yes! As we settle in to watch the world’s finest competitors do their thing in Tokyo, over 12 centuries ago, the people of Ancient China were putting on their own independent grand sports event.

Beginning as military exercises (as they had done in Ancient Greece), these evolved into competitive sports. Many of the events, including wrestling, chariot races, and racing in armour, began taking shape during the Tang Dynasty, which just so happens to be the main inspiration for Season VIII: Dynasty!

However, unlike in Greece, the Ancient Chinese version of the Olympic games was more focused on ball games, which were also developed during the Tang era. The most popular and widely played of these was a game with only one goal, in which the ball could touch all body parts except the hands and could not fall on the ground.

While Conqueror’s Blade isn’t hosting its own Olympic Games for you to compete in, feel free to imagine - throw your Spear at a target as a javelin, use your Maul as a deadly shot put, or even create your very own marathon course trying to take all three points on a map.

Your sporting ambition can still be put to good use during Ranked Battles, participate in the Season VIII Campaign, and more in Season VIII: Dynasty.
Xecryst Remains - Krysle Quinsen
It has been half a year now since the last announcement. It is slower than I would like but having to work, play and code the game while keeping myself sane enough under pressure is something. Anyways here is the update for the private version of the game.

Overall Changes: (0.95.20 included)
Major:
  • Save & Load functionality, both profile and mid-game saving.
  • A better Infocard UI with on-hover description in some UI.
  • More time-saving features like Quick Shrine, Quick Loot, Auto-unlocker, and Loot directly during Exploration.
  • A better item and ability searching.
  • A lot of improvement to AI, using less CPU-cycle and most bug fixed.
  • Armor and Accessory Model with Remodel function.
  • Vastly improved the visual in both texture and other shenanigans.
  • Shrine Reworked for more impact.
  • Destroying Xecryst reward is more impact.
  • Esenthel Engine updated to July (Released) build.

Minor:
  • Elemental Weakness is now Opposite Element instead of Rotation Element.
  • Some more Gameplay Options.
  • Equipment enchantment is now replaced for free up to the last tier.
  • Lot of bug fixes that didn't write down.

This build is probably a final build for private only and I'll focus on fixing text (less broken English), make a better gameplay trailer, some small Reddit marketing (and get down-voted from not being visual appealing!), some localization support, training mode, and a tutorial.
As for the Story Mode will be made later until I am satisfied with the Arcade mode (the meat of the game).

Too Long, Didn't Read from 0.94.x version. A game flow rework.
  • Game Flow reworked from 5 Round-based to a bigger 1 round with Exploration mechanic with its UI.
  • Separate the game into Story and Arcade mode. Story Mode is 1 region with optional story content (WIP). Arcade Mode is all-region with some customization (Current is randomized and Vent Xecryst count)
  • 3 Regions added (Water, Earth, and Dark)
  • Weather System.
  • Allied Mercenaries are much better and more player-like.
  • Most UI are reworked.
  • Only DirectX11 and 64bit are supported.
  • Sound Effect reworked, More music.
  • Removed Multiplayer (planned to add sometimes down the road)
