Silly tower defense series sequel Orcs Must Die! 3 launched last summer on Stadia but it's now broken into a bunch of other platforms. It's hitting Steam today with all the post-launch upates that have been made to the game over the last year. Robot Entertainment show off all their Orc flinging traps, co-op, and flashy magical battles in their new launch trailer.
The closed beta for Amazon's MMO New World kicked off earlier this week. As MMOs are wont to do, there were some initial hiccups, though not the ones you'd usually expect. Numerous players reported that their graphics cards overheated or died while playing in the beta, many specifically EVGA's Nvidia RTX 3090 cards. Amazon quickly released a patch to alleviate concerns about frame rates in game. EVGA have now also confirmed that they will be replacing affected GPUs.
Details of the lawsuit against Activision Blizzard by California's State Department of Fair Employment and Housing were made public on Wednesday night. The lawsuit includes numerous accounts of harassment and discrimination against women within the company. While plenty of players, fans, and former employees reacted to the report online, a guild of World Of Warcraft roleplayers organised a sit-in protest in game while raising now over $9,000 for Black Girls Code.
Sports Interactive have begun a “multi-year project” to bring women’s football to Football Manager. The game will not be separate from the current title, but incorporate the players, coaches, leagues, and all competitions into one game. Miles Jacobson, studio director at Sports Interactive, said: “We have NO interest whatsoever in making a standalone women’s football version of FM. What we are doing is adding women’s football to FM... one sport, one game.”
As you can see from our coverage of the Steam Deck, Valve's portable PC has us intrigued. It's designed to let you leave your desktop behind, while taking your library with you on the go. It could be just one room over, or on long trip, but all your games and friends will still be available to you.
With that in mind, if you get one, what do you plan to do with it? Will it be an extension of your desktop gaming, taking your progress with you? Do you hope you’ll work out how to appreciate different types of game on the device? Can you imagine using the dock and accessing the underlying OS? Tell us below.
Dark, witchy RPG Black Book has summoned itself up a release date and a new trailer. The grim adventure based on Slavic myths follows the story of a witch named Vasilisa as she attempts to use the demonic Black Book to bring her betrothed back from the dead. You know, the kind of quest which has never, ever had terrible repercussions. We'll find out just how Vasilisa's story goes down when Black Book launches in August.
Developers Variable State have gone from Virginia, a first-person game set in rural America about FBI agents and mild supernatural-ness, to Last Stop, a set of anthology adventures following all sorts of supernatural shenanigans in London. While the games share a similar weirdness, they're both pretty different experiences - but that wasn't always going to be the case. I had a chance to chat with Last Stop's co-directors, who told me Last Stop was originally set in America before they decided to bring it home to the UK.
We also talked about the difficulties with getting voice actors in the same room during a pandemic, and how they designed a character with some interesting views on game development to remind themselves not to become too self-serious.
The Tokyo Olympic Games starts today, and in classic fashion, Google have made an Olympics-themed Google Doodle to celebrate. But this isn't any old Google Doodle. Oh no. Welcome To The Doodle Champion Island Games is also a video game, and it's legit good. Even better, I think, than any of the actual official Olympics Games tie-in games. Yeah, I went there, Mario and Sonic. Eat my dust. You should give it a go next time you open a new tab today. It has a cracking anime opening from Studio 4C and everything.
Remedy's first Max Payne game turns 20 today, which, most importantly for this article, means I can't make a joke about how it's now old enough to do X or Y. 20 is a garbage age for milestones. But I just looked it up and discovered that in America you only have to be 18 to buy a shotgun (what?!)>. That means Max Payne the game is already old enough to, in slow motion, leap sidways as it fires a shell right into a mob enforcer's face. I think it's sort of what Max himself would have wanted. Happy bullet time day to you!
Just last week, I called Microprose's impressive looking Carrier Command 2 “The most VR game I’ve seen that’s not yet been confirmed for VR.” Well, they’ve made me look quite> the fool by announcing that there will be a VR version of the first-person strategy game. Just like the main game, they're sticking you in the cockpit of a carrier with access to its vast array of weapons, but in VR you have to set plans and launch attacks with your wobbly VR pointer.
