Chef's Tail - Bedaman
Hello everyone!
This is the first from the series of Devlogs that will precede the release of Chef's Tail.
We will be updating you with the newest information from the game, as well as some sneak peeks into development, to help you understand the world of Chef's Tail and our creative vision.

As you know, Underworld is quite an abundant theme in mythology, for the narrative design of the game that could be either a boon or a bane.
On one hand, we have all those incredible characters from the Greek epic poems. On the other hand, we certainly wanted a more light-hearted experience for the game. We also wanted to create something unique, world-building-wise.



That’s how one of the quest givers - Charon, became part of the game.
Charon’s duty is to transport the souls to the Underworld. But unlike in Greek mythology, the souls are not going to stay in this Underworld forever.
With some luck and a bit of obols (ancient currency), they may, very well, reach their next destination even in a few hours!
This makes our Charon’s duty a lot less grim and dark compared to original myths. Yes, he is still moody and bad-tempered, though caring as an old, but grumpy grandpa.



Charon is the first character you meet and one of the key figures in Chef's Tail.

    Accessibility
  • 🌻 Added complete keyboard controls rebinding
  • 🌻 Upgraded to a new input system, allowing for controller and other input devices in the future
  • 🌻 Added setting to disable dynamic background color. Disabling this will prevent the background color to change when moving through your world.


    Balancing
  • 🌻 Water Train Stations and lakes now count empty / grass edges as fitting neighbors (counting towards a perfect placement)
  • 🌻 Water Train Stations and lakes now only give points for fitting edges
  • 🌻 Champion and True Fan challenges are now passive - they always run in the background and trigger when completed, without them needing to be selected as an active challenge


    Clarity
  • 🌻 Introduced hotkey to highlight flags as well as display markers for quests outside of the screen
  • 🌻 Tile Stack counter now changes color to red when falling to 10 or less remaining tiles
  • Introduced a tooltip system to display info about quests, tile stack, UI elements
  • Added settings to toggle between different tooltip settings
  • Small fixes to the tutorial: replaced windmill quest tile in tutorial with normal field quest tile, removed quest info boxes at the top of the screen


    Happiness
  • 🌻 Replaced "Game Over" text with more friendly "Session Completed"


    Localization

  • Depending on individual System specs up to 300% performance/FPS increase due to various performance improvements (tested on Intel HD 530 integrated graphics)
  • implemented crash reporting system to collect anonymous crash data to locate and reproduce bugs better in the future
  • Rebuilt and improved shaders for buildings and adapted its color sets
  • Decreased texture memory size that is used for buildings
  • Improved water shader performance

    Steam Features
  • 🌻 Added cloud save to store reward progress, challenges & the autosaved world in the Steam Cloud


    Usability

    Bugfixes
  • 🌻 Synchronized rewards & challenges data to prevent issues of boats, trains and other quest tiles not being spawned after their challenge was completed
  • 🌻 Fixed Bug that occurred in the tutorial when a quest was failed
  • 🌻 Fixed model variation in the late game that sometimes was held back due to a bug
  • 🌻 Fixed tile duplication bug when quitting the game while a tile is previewed
  • 🌻 Fixed challenge fulfilled effects sometimes triggering twice
  • 🌻 Fixed settings language dropdown items order (selected language should stay the same as before)
  • 🌻 Segments no longer keep references to other segments that aren't directly connected to them, which could cause wrong vehicle behavior
  • 🌻 Fixed bug that caused inactive Challenges to trigger while playing the Tutorial
  • 🌻 Fixed issue where game could stuck when rotating or previewing a tile at a location where multiple of its segments connect to the same element group
  • 🌻 Fixed a bug where loading a game would cause preplaced tiles to be created twice, causing issues like overlapping preplaced tiles or them not being connected properly
  • 🌻 Fixed an issue where preplaced tiles would not appear when loading big worlds or cause other wrong behavior


    Other
  • 🌻 Increased the max zoom out distance by 50% - even higher zoom distance will be added once we improved the general performance
  • Added screen at the beginning of the game to opt-in or out of Unity Analytics data collection - this screen can also be accessed via the "Privacy" button in the menu
  • Display fallback localization (English) if the localization for a certain field is missing
  • 🌻 Challenge completed effect does not trigger automatically on start of the game anymore if the requested quest goals were already achieved due to the balancing adjustments
  • You can find the current version number now in the credits screen

Panzer Corps 2 - Edmon
Take part in the Panzer Corps 2021 World Championship

Today we open sign-ups for what we hope will be the biggest, most important tournament for Panzer Corps ever.

Many will be familiar with the competitive scene in the Panzer Corps franchise (Panzer Corps 1 had over 10 millions multiplayer games played). Slitherine ran several tournaments so far, both for Panzer Corps and its sequel Panzer Corps 2.

This time we want to take it up a notch and start the first Panzer Corps World Championship.

It will be a very long tournament which will have participants face opponents from all over the world, for a total duration of 18 rounds. It will begin on September 1st, the day in which World War II began, and it will last until the end of May 2022. Our goal is to announce the new Panzer Corps World Champion on D-Day, 6th June 2022. 

Everyone who owns Panzer Corps 2 is eligible to join, and it is absolutely free to do so. All that players need to do is to either log in with their Slitherine account, or make a new Slitherine account (once again, entirely free) and click on Join under the World Championship icon in the Tournaments page on our website.

Thanks to Slitherine’s Tournament system, players won’t have to worry about anything: their opponents will be picked by the system (which follows Swiss Tournament rules) and paired multiplayer games will be created automatically. They can be played either live or on PBEM, all the participants will need to do is to open the game and play. They will also receive notifications by mail when a new round is starting, or when it is their turn to play.

It is now possible to leave a mark in the Panzer Corps history: who will be the first World Champion?

Release and the Wreckage
Hello all! I has already been a rough launch! I am SOOO sorry about that! I wish these issues were known of sooner but it came to light only recently.

To sum up the current issues, Multiplayer is not working due to desyncing. The caused of this I believe is the pipeline of network code sent from the servers to the clients and clients to the server is being over run with non-essential code.

This causes MAJOR desyncing while playing the game, it breaks the game in ways i didn't expect, parts i thought were flawless now have issues. To counter this over the next week I will be digging into the code of the game and attempt to rewrite the multiplayer side of things to fix this error.

It will not be a simple task and may take some time to complete. I really didn't want to see it go like this, again, I apologise. As the only dev on the game it make it a little hard to do some task and it does take more time then usual. I will give you my plan.

Over the next week i will be giving you small patches to trouble shoot the errors to see if things i change help, or break the game more. These patches will only apply in Multiplayer. The Singleplayer currently is in a good state.

Once the week is over and I've determined what might need change. The week after that I will begin the major rewriting. That process will take as long as it needs. until i can fix the Desync issue.



The Aftermath
It was a rougher launch then expected, I am new too all this and I want to make it right! If you feel you didn't get the product you wanted, refund if needed. but come back soon as I will, and I promise I will get this issue solved! Its what we all want!

Keep a keen eye out for announcements and patches! I hope to see more people join along and feel free to try the singleplayer! it follows the same story you follow in the multiplayer so you wont miss out!
