Welcome to PowerWash Simulator’s first content update, 0.4! A whole lot of clean content has just splash landed into the game and is playable now. This includes new levels, game mode, quality of life changes and bug fixes!
In the two hotfixes following launch, we also resolved two major issues which were affecting players. First, those who were unable to clean anything at all will now find that they will be able to wash without problems unless they are playing on extremely low-end hardware. Additionally, we fixed an issue where save data could become corrupted if the application was suddenly terminated. More details here and here.
If either of these affected you, we hope you will give the game another try now that they are fixed.
Now, onto the changes and additions!
Patch Notes
Content
We've added three new jobs to Career Mode.
Tree House, Fire Helicopter and Recreation Vehicle
Each of these levels adds new story and challenging dirt to remove! Enjoy cleaning the intricate details in the blades, propeller and pipes of the Fire Helicopter. Revel in removing the dirt on the colourful and well-travelled RV. Climb to the peak of satisfaction in the Tree House where large amounts of moss can be peeled off like butter by the heavy duty power washer.
Added Challenge Mode featuring Time and Water challenges for the PowerWash Van (once that job is complete in Career Mode).
Are you up to the challenge? Earn a bronze, silver or gold medal based on your performance! The van and modes are just the beginning and we can't wait to hear your thoughts on fun modes like these.
We do want to stress that the core gameplay focus will always be on zen cleaning but with these modes, we want to add some extra replayability to the levels.

Developer Notes
Our aim with this update was to fix certain gameplay issues which were giving players a bad experience.
Firstly the soap system was allowing players to spend more money (sometimes without realising) than intended, which prevented them from being able to purchase the more powerful Power Washers.
We addressed this by adding a limit to the amount of soap players could purchase, adding more text to the inventory screen to explain how to use it, removing the ability to purchase extensions and nozzles for washers the player doesn’t own, and adding a button prompt to refill when empty. Please keep the feedback coming and let us know what you think of the changes.
Another major headache our players were having was finding the last bit of dirt to complete a job. We want the game to feel rewarding, and part of that is doing a thorough job and tracking down the last bits and pieces. However, we appreciate that we didn’t go far enough in assisting the player and it was causing frustration.
First, dirt that is all but invisible to the naked eye should remove automatically once below a certain threshold which should reduce reliance upon the dirt highlight tool. We’ve also added a HUD element that appears and details the final 3 objects (or groups of the same object) when those are all that remains.
Next, we’ve added the ability to highlight the specific dirty object in the world by clicking on it in the details menu. Rather than simply highlighting the dirt, this will highlight the whole object so you can easily find the area you need to clean. Finally, we have slightly increased the duration of the “Highlight Dirt” functionality to reduce the need to repeatedly press the button.
We've also added changes for players suffering from motion sickness. Both adding a fixed crosshair option (it normally fades when firing,) and adding higher FPS options. Having a fixed crosshair can let players focus on the centre of the screen and notice the motion around the screen less. Players with higher refresh rates should now also get smoother movement on their monitors. In a future update, we'll also be adding more FOV options and are looking at other potential solutions for controlling the washer/camera.
There’s a lot more to come during Early Access, and I want to mention that in particular, we’re looking to add control remapping as our next highest priority. While we have tried to get this ready in time for the update, unfortunately, it will take more time to implement than we had hoped.
We’ll see you all next time in our weekly developer log and look forward to start teasing the next content update! Enjoy the new patch!
As always if you have any feedback on anything you would like to see please put it in the comments below, on our Discord or in the feedback section here on Steam.
We can't wait for everyone to play around with the next update! :)

Welcome to the Pre-season 5 State of the Game. There are a few things to talk about, so I’ll jump right in.
What We Have Learned
Tutorial Our Pre-season 4 survey asked for your feedback on the new tutorial that we put in place. The early experience for our beginner users is an area of focus for us, so it was interesting to see the results:
Pretty good reception; however, we also received some fantastic feedback about how the tutorial can be expanded to be more like an open firing range where you can test out weapons and perks as well.
Rewards Last SotG, I mentioned that we were looking into rewards. The way our system is set up is that you get reward packages for running missions well, doing activities, completing contracts, and, in some cases, merely logging into the game. Contained in those rewards are cosmetic items, beautiful skins to customize your appearance.
Well, it turns out, we were (unintentionally) a little stingy. Take this lovely skin, our Matte Red Pistol: Currently, only 473 people own this skin - and it was supposed to be a drop in a common loot package! So, armed with this data, plus a few other things, we’ve rejiggered the loot drops a little bit for now, but come Pre-season 6, we will have overhauled our cosmetics system to accompany our Wardrobe function to make it both clearer how to get these sorts of cosmetics as well as make the system a little more generous and in line with what you’re supposed to get.
What We Are Doing
Pre-season 5 was intentionally a little smaller for a couple of reasons. One, summertime in Sweden is typically when most people go on holiday (COVID notwithstanding). Our team deserves a little break after the madness of the Xbox launch! But secondly, and more importantly, we have a lot of features stuffed into Pre-season 6, and we wanted to make sure their functionality is tight.
As you can see on our roadmap, a substantial number of your suggestions and feedback will finally be implemented in September. Cross-play is a major milestone, where players on Steam can play with players on Xbox. This, combined with changes with matchmaking and the multiplayer lobby system, will make it substantially easier to find others to play with. In addition, you will be able to talk to them! Voice chat will now be enabled in-game; text chat is coming later (it’s a little hard to text chat on console).
The aforementioned Wardrobe, with revamped loot, cosmetic rarities, and valuations, will also be introduced, so now you know what you need to do to get that sweet, sweet Jack Hyper Hoodie. Our last Operative will be introduced, Brazilian-Portuguese will be a language option... and who could forget HORDE MODE with its own Leaderboards. This has proven to be really fun in our internal playtests, so we can’t wait to share it with you.
In addition to the items on the roadmap, we’re always working on the smaller problems that have emerged. In Pre-season 5, this patch has allowed for some recovery of items in the event of a disconnect - in other words, if you crash or disconnect from a mission, you are treated as if you failed your mission and will receive a portion of the items that you collected. This is a game where failure is always a possibility, and while being kicked out is not necessarily through any fault of your own, this is the first step we’re implementing to soothe that frustration. Pre-season 6 will contain the actual message pop-up letting you know what you got - we, unfortunately, couldn’t do the work for Pre-season 5 in time (but you at least still get the items!). Obviously, solving the problem of disconnects is very high on the list, but it is also one of the most complicated systems we have, so it will take some time to identify what the problems are before we can solve them.
We’ve also got some substantial performance improvements identified for Pre-season 6 as well, and a couple of other goodies.
Looking towards the future, in addition to fixing more of the technical, network, and performance issues, we’re also focusing on creating a more understandable user experience for the game.
A Major Milestone
Pre-season 6 will mark a major milestone in our development cycle. We’ve been clear from our introduction into Early Access that we wanted to focus our efforts and time on crafting the right kind of kill-dinos-in-the-face experience - tightening up our systems, introducing features that help facilitate co-op play, and making the War Effort robust so that each week as you log into the game, a new experience awaits you. A lot of what we introduce in the next patch fulfills those requirements - by then, we will have a full roster of characters, three modes of play (Expedition, Missions, Horde), three difficulties (Normal, Hard, Insane), a pretty nice pool of Emergence Events, and two ways to customize your play via weapon upgrades and armor augments.
While we aren’t quite yet there for launch (did someone say a new Map for launch?:)), many of the core features one would expect for a co-op, online game will now exist, and around this time is when we’ll be asking “are we ready for 1.0?” As such, we have decided to raise the price of Second Extinction by $2 USD/EUR when Pre-season 6 comes out, just to reflect the significant progress we have made so far in this past year. [Edit: after this post was published the plans have changed, and there will not be a price increase coming with Pre-Season 6.]
One Final Note
Pre-season 3 contract rewards will be available as weekly login rewards for Xbox players ONLY since they missed out on Pre-season 3. Make sure to log in and claim that reward! The schedule for what reward is available will be in your newsfeed. In addition, if you were affected by the weapon upgrade issue where you lost both the upgrade and the materials to purchase the upgrade, please contact customer support - we will try to find a way to return what you lost as best we can.

😮 IT'S STILL 30% OFF FOR ONE MORE DAY! (The Steam Summer Sale ends tomorrow) 😮
Hi everyone! We have some exciting news to share with you! One More Island is officially being published by Freedom Games ( https://freedom.gg ). For those of you who may not know, a game publisher not only provides funding for developing games that they publish, but also takes care of a lot of the business and marketing that comes with releasing a game. That includes managing our store pages and potential console releases, marketing and advertising the game, helping showcase the game at both digital and live events, PR, and a lot more. Really it lets us totally focus on working to make the game the best it can be, and provides us with the resources to do so.
With this exciting development, our timeline for release is changing just a bit. One More Island’s release is going to be delayed. We don’t have a new date for release just yet, but when we do, we will be making announcements here on Steam as well as on our socials so make sure to follow us there (Twitter, Discord). With this delay, it will allow us to add the highest civilization tiers, additional management options (maintenance, trade) and exciting new elements such as disasters!
You may also be worried about horror stories of publishers ruining the vision of a game or forcing arbitrary restrictions on the dev team. For Freedom, that can’t be further from the reality we have experienced with them. Freedom has been an amazing partner to us, only enhancing and supporting our vision. We selected Freedom because they are committed to our vision of the game, and only want to see it reach its full potential as we see it. We maintain complete creative and development freedom, and Freedom (heh) wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thank you for all of your support so far in our development. It means a lot to us! If you have any questions about this, feel free to join our Discord where you can talk directly with the devs about this, or really anything.
