Happy Summer! We hope everyone is keeping cool and safe. Here’s how the development of Gataela went during June!

Levels & Music



We’ve been chugging along working on the updated levels and music for the new areas, and pictured above is a comparison of one of those! This level is located just north of Vescha and used to have some of the city spilling out into it at the bottom. With the changes we made last month to the city’s layout, this isn’t happening anymore, so there’s more room for vegetation!

It’s been great seeing a lot more visual interest being added to the world of Gataela while working on these changes, and it should help everyone traveling through the game feel like each area is more distinct. But if on the off chance the visual changes aren’t enough, we completed the soundtrack for these to help too!

Speaking of the soundtrack, William has been doing an amazing job and it’s now at 60 tracks! With such a monumental number, it’s a good time to mention that the soundtrack will also be released for sale at some point in the future! We’ll be posting a sneak preview of the new music for this area later this month, so look forward to it!

Battle Upgrades & SFXs



Another big focus for the last month was more battle animations, but in particular the SFX for them. We finished off our first round of work back in December, which updated all of the existing SFX in the game. For the last couple of months, we’ve been focusing on adding SFX for all of the battle skills! This is a huge step forward, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with everyone!

What’s Next?



As per usual, we’ll be focusing on the three key areas: levels, battle upgrades & story. We’re aiming to finish off adding the rest of the updated skill animations for battles in July, as well as finishing creating the new weapon animations for all of the characters. Another big focus in the near future will be level work, and we’re hoping to round out the end of the quarter with a whole new province added.

Exploring new maps is always very exciting. Fresh locations allow you to take a different look at the gameplay of various vehicles and experience battles in the most unusual corners of the world. But creating new maps for World of Tanks is a long and complex process, and we need your help to make them as good as they can be.

Update 1.13 will introduce a new mode to World of Tanks—Recon Mission. This experimental mode will be launched in separate Episodes, with the first Episode kicking off on July 5. Recon Mission will become an open collaboration platform where we’ll work together with you to improve and refine new maps that may be added to Random Battles in the future. Let’s see how it works.

3 Episodes, 9 New Maps

To enter the mode, select Recon Mission via the mode selector in your Garage and click the Battle! button.



This summer, we will launch three Recon Mission Episodes, each lasting 10 days. In each Episode, you can explore 3 new maps in the late stages of development. After playing 20 battles in Recon Mission, you’ll be able to vote for the map you like the most and the least in each Episode.

You can leave detailed feedback about each map in the special questionnaire shown below, and this will greatly help us improve and finalize these locales. Before you can share your opinions in the questionnaire about a specific map, you’ll need to play at least 6 battles on the locale. You can only give feedback about the maps of the current Episode, but you’ll have the opportunity to change your mind and share a different opinion in the questionnaire before the end of each Episode.



Your Feedback Is Crucial!

All maps in Recon Mission are pre-release prototypes designed for Random Battles. The gameplay experience on these maps is almost finalized, but the visuals may undergo further changes before release. Your feedback and the statistics we obtain will help us understand what balance adjustments and other final refinements are needed. The maps that are the most popular with the community will be prioritized for addition to the Random Battles map pool in future updates.







General Rules and Matchmaking

Battles in Recon Mission will follow the rules of Standard Battles with several changes.

  • Battles will take place in Tier VIII–X vehicles.
  • Personal and clan missions will not be available, but you can complete other battle missions, including Daily Missions.
  • The battle economy will be the same as in Random Battles.
  • You will be able to earn bonds, progressive customization decals, Mastery Badges, and Marks of Excellence.
  • The statistics of all Recon Mission battles will be counted in the statistics of Random Battles. Session statistics will not include Recon Mission battles.

You will be able to earn Battle Pass Points in the following ways:

Recon Mission will feature single- and multi-tier battles. For multi-tier battles, the matchmaker will assemble battles so that there are more lower-tier vehicles than higher-tier ones. For example, in two-tier battles, the number of Tier VIII vehicles will be greater than that of Tier IX tanks, or the number of Tier IX vehicles will be greater than that of Tier X tanks.

Progression System and Rewards

Each Recon Mission Episode will have a separate progression system, consisting of 50 battles and its own set of rewards. After playing a certain number of battles, you will receive in-game goodies such as a cool all-season camo, Personal Reserves, and other prizes. After completing a series of 50 battles, you will also earn a special medal.

Get ready to explore new maps and share your feedback, Commanders!

On July 5, we planned to launch the experimental Recon Mission mode, which was created to give you the opportunity to play on pre-release prototypes of game locations and choose, in your opinion, the most successful among them.

Unfortunately, when working on the matchmaker for this mode, we didn't take into account Tier VIII Premium vehicles with preferential matchmaking, and these tanks are sent into battles with Tier X vehicles. The release of Recon Mission with the current matchmaker would be the wrong decision which won’t match your expectations. With this in mind, we will not launch the first Stage and take a break to make the necessary adjustments to the matchmaker, as well as conduct an additional mode check to rule out possible additional issues.

Gamedec - Definitive Edition - Matt_Anshar
Hello! Gamedec's release is drawing near, all hands on deck and a tight schedule to fit all of the work that has to be done, but we're on the right track!

We're tweaking the final looks and 3D models for most of the characters and making sure all in-game mechanics are running smoothly. Mind that some of the assets are still in Polish – we’re working on the translation as we speak. So without further ado, let's jump straight into the bullets.



Worked on various game levels [including Paradise Beach]

Paradise Beach was one of the levels still waiting to be finished. You might have heard about it in the very first demo, the same where you've met Geoffrey Haggis and his son Fredo. PB is a sim-date world, where people meet for dating purposes. You can wear a skin that makes you look more beautiful, and you'll quickly meet a partner within a few hours. What will be its purpose in the game? You'll have to wait to see 😊

Tweaked the character creation feature

We might be biased, but we really like the way we went with the character creation section. We don't want to dig deep into the whole system, but we can share a little sneak peek below. Remember, choosing the avatar's origin and backstory might affect the gameplay, so think carefully before making the final decision.

Reworked the final look of the avatars and 3D models for gamedecs and NPCs



Our art team sat down and made sure the avatars shown during the dialogues and visible in many places in the game are even better than before. "It's in the details" – they said, and we couldn't agree more.



New models are more detailed, and the avatars will better prepare you for what to expect, trying to guess the attitude and characteristics of the NPCs you're interacting with.

Reworked the Codex and its UI



One of the most common feedback about our Codex was about the readability and UI. So naturally, we analyzed the issue, agreed, and focused on tweaking these two to make them more pleasant to read and easier to navigate through. So what do you think about the results?

Adding the support of accessibility features 



No doubts about it – Gamedec has to support some accessibility features. We want people to play Gamedec without control barriers. One of the assumptions was to make it as simple to operate as possible, but that's not all we could do. We added the options to change the interaction UI size and font size and even change the font to better suit people suffering from dyslexia.

To make the gaming experience even more accessible, we now support different color schemes to ensure that everything important won't go unnoticed.

Make Mars Yours... with Mods

We're excited to announce that our newest update to the Advanced Branch introduces mod support! Create the Mars of your dreams like never before with community mods. Design new quests, modify the Tech Tree, create new resources or buildings and even modify planet variables. Make Mars yours!

We have been working behind the scenes to implement this new feature for a long time. We've even been working with community members since the early stages of its development. Introducing workshop support to our testing branch is the next step towards bringing public mods to the game.

Keep in mind that as this is our beta branch, we cannot guarantee that mods you develop, download, or use will remain functional in future updates.

Mod support functionality is currently limited to only the Advanced Branch. Why? We use this testing branch to make sure our main branch remains stable and functional. Game development is tricky - new updates can have all sorts of unintended consequences - so this test branch lets us see the affects of our upcoming changes.

How to access the Advanced branch
Want to try out our mods? Of course you do! You’ll need to switch over to the proper branch. Changing a branch is simple and easy!

  1. Find “Per Aspera” in your Steam Library and access its properties by right clicking and selecting “Properties”.
  2. Navigate to the “Betas” sub-menu.
  3. In the drop-down menu, select the “Advanced” branch.
  4. That’s it! Your game should begin downloading the new patch.



If you’d ever like to return to the Public branch, simply select “None” under the submenu and Steam will handle the rest! Remember that the mods currently do not work unless you're on the advanced branch.
