Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale - Anna_Somniar
We have a surprise for those who are signing up to our Kickstarter campaign: exclusive access to the most popular pre-Columbian culture strategy game: the Patoli.

Patolli was played by Mesoamerican groups such as the Teotihuacans, Toltecs, Mayas and Aztecs. It was played from about 200 BCE until the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors and their conquest of the Aztec Empire in the early 1500s CE. The game was very popular across all social strata: there were even matches held between the rulers of neighboring villages.

The Patoli is played on a board with a diagonal-shaped cross, divided in 52 boxes that represent the Mayan calendar wheel (related to “Fuego Nuevo” – New Fire), and the “Huehuetiliztli" (104 year cycle). Black beans with a hole drilled in one side were used as dice; this is why patolli is sometimes called the bean game. The aim is to complete a full lap of the board with their pieces before the other player.

The game had a strong focus on gambling, people would bet their precious objects, possessions and even their freedom.

Next week will see the launch of patch .985, including a tonne of exciting new content and technology. Leading up to and after the launch, Galaxy Crafting Lines are being expanded with New Equipment.

New Synth and Android Crews have already started appearing in the Galaxy, with more to come! Could this mean the Tech Collection is returning? Perhaps one of these bolt-headed rust buckets will know…




Version .985 will also introduce a new lighting system for Pixel Starships! While still in the very early stages of implementation, we will continue to improve this system for an emotive, immersive experience.



The update will include new sets of Daily Missions for Level ranges 6 through 11, with more information to follow in release notes.


Version .985 will also see the release of the new Turret Module Type. We will be closely monitoring their performance in competitive PvP, and look forward to your feedback.


IMPORTANT NOTE:

In the interest of transparency and fair play, we have made several improvements to GBay Market Protection. Please note that this is an ongoing process. We will continue to absorb feedback and tune these changes in a live environment for total data accuracy.

Summer is upon us, and with it comes an update to Paint Chips!

For a limited time from June 1st to July 31st there are 31 new Summer-themed items to obtain in the item shop! After purchase with either Chips or Bukkits, the items are yours to keep and wear whenever you please. There is also a new map that will only be playable during the Summer event.

We hope you all enjoy the event!

Of course there are many other new, updated and fixed things in this update, which are as follows:

  • New Stuff
    • Items in the item shop will now have a "New" tag on them when there are items you haven't clicked on, making it easier to see what's new in the future
    • Added a "Rules" button on the Title menu so you can look at the rules whenever you like
    • Added a small "loading" icon when loading in to a match
    • Medals have been added, which are extra things you can earn during matches as a small bonus for playing well:
      • Double Chip - Get two consecutive kills within 4 seconds of one another
      • Triple Chip - Get three consecutive kills within 4 seconds of one another
      • Quad Chip - Get four consecutive kills within 4 seconds of one another
      • Ultra Chip - Get five (or more) consecutive kills within 4 seconds of one another
      • Chipping Spree - Get 5 kills without dying

    • Increased the shot cooldown on Rocket Launcher to 1 sec (previously 0.65 sec)
    • Increased the length of time that player-dropped weapons stay on the ground by 5 seconds
    • Made adjustments to Daily Challenge descriptions
    • Added a short cooldown for the "I'm Stuck" button in the Social Lobby
    • Added a sprite to the Bomb to make them more visible on bright backgrounds
    • Adjustments were made to a few Daily Challenge rewards:
      • Matchmaker reward is now 1500 Chips (decrease)
      • Win some, Lose some reward is now 3000 Chips (decrease)
