New Open World
Desert Skies now has a fixed open world map instead of one that is procedurally generated as you fly. This makes exploring the deserts a more engaging experience which will keep getting better as we fill the world with lots of details to find and explore. Press M to view the in-game map to help you navigate the world as you search for locations, caves and resources.



The current version of the world is just the beginning. It was mostly created using our old procedural generation tools with a bit of manual editing. Now that it's fully operational we will be working on new world creation tools to empower us to hand-craft lots of interesting areas to find and explore in the deserts. As we improve the world over coming updates borders will shift, biomes will become unique, and the landscape will grow with hills, valleys, canyons, roads/rails and more.

We now have artwork for our menus, in-game HUD and interfaces!



The build menu will also be updated after we make some gameplay changes to how you find and learn schematics to build.

Inventory System
Our old inventory system could not work with multiplayer, so we rebuilt it. The new system is multiplayer ready and has improved features - you can split item stacks, it will remember which slot you like to keep each tool and consumable in, and it intelligently picks which stacks to add items to and remove from.

Other Changes
  • The wind can now blow in any direction instead of always pointing westerly. We have improved how the wind and engine interact so that it's easier to fly the direction you want even when it's against the wind.
  • White Sands is now a biome of towering dunes interspersed with fields of bright red flowers, while Salt Flats is now very flat. These are the first steps in these biomes' development, with more to come as we improve our world building tools.
  • We have created a weather system. This first version changes cloud formations when the weather changes, and in future will support additional weather effects like dust, lighting, wind intensity and sandstorms.
  • In-game interactions like opening doors and harvesting resources are now using a rebuilt interaction system which supports multiplayer.
  • We have rebuilt our save system to support the fixed open world. Currently resources and locations will reset when you fly away and return to an area, but once we've added more content we will switch over to permanent saving - any changes you make to the world will be there forever.
  • As a side effect of rebuilding our systems, several bugs no longer exist. Any existing problems with inventory or items are gone, as well as bugs like planted prickly pears not growing fruit or duplicate items appearing at workstations after loading a game.


Multiplayer Update
We are close to having multiplayer ready for testing. The initial multiplayer release will be a quiet one to find any major bugs or connectivity issues. Once we're sure everything is ready we will make an announcement for the proper release.

Desert Skies will use drop-in multiplayer so you will be able to invite friends to join your game at any time without needing to start a separate multiplayer game/mode. Initially multiplayer will be locally hosted with friends able to join your game via the Steam friends list, but later we will release a dedicated server.

Yemo City in Wuzhao

The royal house of the Wuzhao is situated near the Yinsheng Spring, a place sacred to the God of Death. Once on the cusp of victory, the people of Hezhao recognised too late the enormous price they had to pay to keep the divine swords in check.

Players venturing into this dungeon must face off against Wu Yeyu, who was directly exposed to the explosion of the Demonsword. The devastating impact of this evil cost her not only her humanity, but her sanity. However, it also left her much stronger than before, making Wu Yeyu an exceedingly tough opponent.



Nightmare Temple of Mercy

Any trace of the peaceful calm that once epitomised this temple has long since disappeared. Whoever trespasses on this once hallowed ground enters a hell beyond all hope. The source of this bane is the Stranger’s Sword, bathed in negative qi.

The temple is lorded over by the Nightmare sprung from the sword itself. In appearance, it manifests itself in the guise of the General Wu Rui, but it is far more bloodthirsty and twisted than he. In any event, it is the most dangerous nightmare in the dream world.



Frostbitten Path

In the mountains behind the Qingliangzhai fortress, a series of winding tunnels twist and snake their way through the rock. Meijia has made this place her own, to pave a way through to the valley of Xiongli. Anyone tempting to step foot in these tunnels must steel themselves for a wicked surprise, as Meijia’s great demons stand ready to fend off any intruders and win time for her malevolent plans.

Heroes venturing into the depths will eventually stand confronted by the giant spider Han Yi. Many years ago, she was one of Xiangliu’s proudest soldiers. But following his death, Han Yi sought refuge – until eventually walking into the welcoming arms of Meijia.



Chou Prison

Under the previous dynasty, many criminals found their bitter end in this dank and uninviting dungeon. Chou Prison comprises a series of watery passages running out in all directions. It has now become a lair for all manner of sinister beast, and a place for Li Xiaotang to test the Yishang Sword in a gruesome battle.

The ultimate challenge in Chou Prison is Tongpi. His impressive bronze armour protects him from all attacks, and thanks to Zhong Wuchi’s sorcery, he is capable of manipulating the five elements to his own benefit.



Raging River Ruins

Fifty years ago, the Devastator Sect erected a series of altars and temples in Jiangdu. Following the great battle against the schools, the altars were torn down, one after the other, until all trace of them was eliminated. Yet with the appearance of the Plaguebringer, those ruins have been revealed once again – and with them the shadowy evil that grows stronger with every passing day.

Anyone entering the ruins will soon make their acquaintance with the Spring Plague General. Created by Nuowu, he is a powerful combatant whose Soulforce is closely bound to the Raging River Ruins themselves. If he comes under threat, the entire temple complex will be his ally.

Vienna Favoriten depot is located in the 10th district of Vienna and serves numerous tram lines. The station area consists of five halls, whereby hall 5 was so badly destroyed by the bombing in 1945, that the roof structure had to be removed and the vehicles on the intact tracks are being parked there in the open ever since.

Server Maintenance Announcement on May 13, 2021

The team will shut down the server on May 13, 2021 from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM (+7 GMT) in order to do maintenance and updates to fix bug issues in the game.

In addition, our team has been developing a new map called Junkyard and additional new characters.

The Junkyard map is now being visually improved while also testing some of the bugs and balance in the game. The team responsible for this part will be a different team that can fix various bugs in the game, so other remainder of the team will still be able to produce new content.

The new character is almost finished. With the remaining fixes to the last bug, which the team has encountered a minor problem. However, at this time the team is temporarily pausing development due to the team prioritization to fixing other bugs. Mainly issues that affected the player's gameplay experience before. Both new content will then be released after various in-game bug fixes.
