I don't know what you call a 360 degree no-scope where it's actually two 180 degree turns on different axes. Dang impressive? Let's go with that. Stylish stunting and sliding FPS Severed Steel looks like it'll let you do one of those in slow-mo glory as you trick your way through a tower of baddies. A new trailer shows off all the slick mayhem you'll get into as Steel the vengeful sharpshooter.
Forget building cities on land. It's rubbish, still and way too predictable. Let's all start building cities on a giant rock-turtle instead, it sounds way more fun. Upcoming city-building sim The Wandering Village will let you do just that - though, not because the land is boring. The planet is actually filled with toxic spores and the turtle is your only hope to keep moving away from them.
I, for one, am all for more Pokémon-likes on PC, and Coromon looks as though it won't disappoint. It's an upcoming monster catching, taming and dueling game that is very clearly influenced by those famous Pocket Monster adventures. Rather than follow the 3D style lots of new creature collecting games are going for, Coromon is a 2D pixel art RPG instead. Developers TRAGsoft released a new trailer for it over the weekend, and there's a demo to try out too if you fancy having a go.
EA have admitted there may be some truth to allegations that an employee used insider access to sell FIFA Ultimate Team cards for huge sums of money. The company launched an investigation last week after claims came to light, and on Friday said they discovered at least one EA account had handed out items it shouldn't have. However, apparently it wasn't not yet clear whether someone who works for EA had done it, or if the accounts had been compromised by wrong'uns. Goodness me.
Taiwanese horror game Devotion is finally available to buy again, two years after it was pulled from sale within days of launch in 2019. It had caused controversy and serious consequences with a small joke at the expense of Chinese president Xi Jinping. Games store GOG announced plans to re-release it last year, then backed out near-instantly supposedly due to popular demand. Now, to hell with it, developers Red Candle Games are just selling Devotion themselves. I've heard it's good, so I'm glad I'll finally be able to see for myself.
Pupperazzi is a simple concept, and one I am in love with. It's a sandbox game where you get to chill out with some excellent pups and take lots of lovely photos of them. This is essentially what I do whenever I visit my family, so I've truly been training for this game my whole life. Over the weekend, one of the game's developers talked through some of the game's development while playing Pupperazzi during the Media Indie Exchange Game Dev Direct, and it's absolutely wonderful stuff. Just wait until you see Sea Dog.
Whenever I'm mining, picking raspberries, and just going about my business, Valheim has this habit of shoving horrid creatures my way. In particular, Greydwarfs, these irritating pests I wish I could give a proper boot. Lo and behold, this is now possible thanks to a mod which increases your character's punting prowess.
Space is all the rage nowadays. We have nice cars on Mars, and the eye on Jupiter has been winking coquettishly and telling me to open my pod bay doors. There’s never been a better time to get back into Kerbal Space Program, the cute game that hides a ridiculously complicated space program underneath its charming facade.
"That is genius," I said to myself as I caught my first glimpse of the colourful chaos of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout on YouTube, and my Takeshi's Castle-filled childhood came zooming back to me like at the end of Ratatouille. How is it that, before this point, no one had thought to take the all-too-familiar battle royale formula, and make it about ragdoll characters propelling themselves through obstacle courses and messing each other up along the way, rather than the typical smorgasbord of guns, looting, and ignoble deaths?
On second thought, there are ignoble deaths aplenty in Fall Guys. The game thrives on them.
Sundays are for forcing yourself to go for a run in the morning, doing so, feeling great for all of five minutes afterwards, then crumbling to dust. Before you stretch your calves, let's read this week's best writing about games.
