You need to use the current_beta branch on Steam or GOG to play this one. If you have trouble with it, there is a most_recent_stable_beta, now, too.

It's been 6 days since the last release, which feels like a lifetime, and it shows in this release. Most of what is new in this one is just tweaks and fixes and tuning (and features for DLC2), but the release notes are REALLY long for it, and it really shows how much polish this adds. This one also adjusts balance fairly substantially in a few areas, though, so let's talk about that.

First of all, the AI homeworlds were getting to be nuts in terms of their power on high difficulties in particular. A number of changes have been made to make the end battles more versatile and give you more options. Against a single giant planet, you only have a few types of ships that work. So instead, we now have split out things a bit into the homeworld and some surrounding "Bastion" planets. The dire guard posts are divided between those now, versus all being on the single homeworld planet. All you have to do is kill those dire guard posts to then go for the guardian, but the fact that they are not all on one planet now is both making it easier and more challenging at the same time, somehow. It opens up more places for you to use multiple potential strategies, too.

You also can't cheese running transports back to friendly territory to make them instantly repairable. Note that when in stationary mode, transports can be given orders to move to another planet and they will stay put while their ships rally there. We'll make that more clear in the interface next build, but it means you can park small transports next door to your attack target.

Guardians now appear in waves, if the wave is powerful enough to warrant that. TONs of mod updates, too. Enjoy!

Bug with extreme sensitivity
Unfortunately, we have not been able to track down this issue. However, if you experience a scenario where the sensitivity is extreme, you may need to disable Steam Controller settings. We are working on hunting down the cause of this issue.

Hey, folks! This is a small update with QoL tweaks.

New stuff

* Game marked as having "Full controller support" -- Since the last update, the game is fully playable with a controller (Steam Controller confirmed, Xbox controller testers welcome)
* Expanded Chinese translation. Dialogue is now 50% translated!

Fixes

* Fixed a bug that caused the player to drop too many items

Hello from all your friends at Hidden Variable!

You guessed it, the Annie DLC release is almost upon us! As such, we’re excited to share some big news and updates...

RELEASE TIMELINE


We are currently planning to release all of the new DLC (Season 1 Pass, Annie, Digital Art Compendium, and Soundtrack) before the end of the week! Stay tuned Thursday/Friday for more information.

When you download that update, one of the first things you’ll see is a brand new logo...



At long last we’re excited to formally announce that we are working with Future Club on the development of Annie along with all the upcoming characters/content included in the Season 1 Pass. Future Club compliments Hidden Variable’s core development team with a seasoned array of artists and designers brimming with years of Skullgirls experience. We couldn’t be more excited about all of the incredible stuff we have in store!

HOW DOES THE BETA WORK?


As a reminder, the old “Skullgirls ∞Endless Beta∞” game on Steam has been retired and is no longer being updated. This go around, you can access the beta from inside the main “Skullgirls 2nd Encore” game!

When launching Skullgirls, you’ll be asked which version of the game you want to play:



Select Play Skullgirls Beta (Annie Early Access) and hit PLAY and you’re good to go! You’ll see “BETA” text on the top of the screen to remind you which version you’re on. You can switch your version by launching the game again.

NOTE: Players on the Beta version can’t match with players on the main retail version.

HOW DO I PLAY WITH ANNIE?


To play with Annie, you need to own either her Character DLC or the Season 1 Pass, and you have to be in the Beta version of the game. If you try to pick Annie in the main retail version of Skullgirls, you’ll have an option to switch to the Beta as long as you’re not in an online fight.



IS THE BETA BALANCE PATCH ARRIVING WITH ANNIE?


Yes! Annie will arrive in the Beta version alongside the first round of balance changes. As a reminder (or if you’re new to the Skullgirls balance patch process), many of the changes you see in the Beta will be experimental and subject to change, and the Beta version WILL change often.

The balance patch notes will be shared at the same time the Annie update is released here on Steam. All balance patch notes after that will also be posted on Steam.

Since Annie is much further along in her development compared to previous Beta character releases, this Beta period will be much shorter than usual so we can hit our target PS4 release date in May. Hold on tight - we’re moving fast!

Dear Soldiers,

We are always responsive as much as we can be based on your feedback.
Accordingly, we are planned to update fixed bugs and improvements as follows.

1. Map improvement

- The terrain of the map, "Ancient Sky-West" has been changed.

2. New features added

- In-game HUD function added

 A UI function that allows you to try another matching if you get killed during the matching game has been added.

 When a tank gets killed, the automatic matching UI is activated and can be used.

 If you are in a party, only the party leader has the right to apply for another matching.
(You can request another matching after leaving the party)

- Nickname change function added

 Nickname can be changed.

 You can change your nickname with the button on your account profile at the top right of the lobby screen.

 The first nickname change is free, and 400 jam is required for additional changes.
3. Function improvement

- We improved and proof-read localized languages.

- If it fails to receive ranking data from the lobby, the retry button is activated.

- Improved the UI for skills information of a tank in the inventory.

- Improved the thumbnail of the tank in the store purchase pop-up window.

- Improved the wind to change more diversely during the game.

- Some of UIs has been improved.

4. Bug fixes

- Corrected the part where the language of the lobby changes to English when entering the game lobby by repeatedly hitting ‘esc’ after running the game.

- Added missing messages when inviting friends and inviting parties.
