I once had a job which involved putting madagascar hissing cockroaches on kids’ hands, and it was ace. Not because I’m some sort of bargain bin Disney villain who lives to frighten children with insects, but for the opposite reason: because it taught me that kids, when they are very young at least, don’t react to cockroaches with disgust or terror. I actually heard some good things about Rage 2, an open-world affair made with Mad Max devs Avalanche, but they slipped out the ear fast enough that I was surprised to be reminded of its existence when it came up on Epic's freebie schedule.

Last Thursday we put a poll up on the Rock Paper Shotgun YouTube channel asking you what you wanted us to focus the next MSR on. And, whilst open-world video games gave it a run for its money, the winner was video games with animal protagonists / playable animal characters.

Final Fantasy VIII (aka: the best Final Fantasy game) turned 22 years old yesterday, and just before a small part of my soul crumbled to dust at the thought of it being two whole decades since I first played it, I said to myself, "Cor, Final Fantasy VIII still> has the best soundtrack, doesn't it?" From the chill vibes of Fisherman's Horizon to the heartfelt sorrow of The Oath, Final Fantasy VIII's music remains one of Nobuo Uematsu's finest scores in my humble opinion, so what better way to celebrate this momentous anniversary than with a countdown of its very best tracks?

Valve's video game store Steam is currently busted, servers evidently having collapsed a few hours ago. It's extremely common for Steam to collapse at the start of a big sale, though these issues started about 18 hours after the Lunar New Year Sale began so huh, I wonder if that actually is the cause. Whatever it is, hold onto your pennies because we're still waiting for a lasting fix.
