Christmas music as a genre is rife with earworms (I’ve got chuffing Slade stuck in my own head right now) but the makers of Baldur’s Gate 3 have gone one step further with Christmas brainworms. Larian Studios today dropped the surprise Christmas present of Tadpole For You, Tadpole For Me – a festive song about being infested by Mind Flayer parasites. And yes, the devs sing it themselves. After all, iiiiiiiiiiiiitt’s Christmaaaaas. Ah god damn it.
The RPS podcast network (comprising this podcast and The PC Gaming Weekspot) didn’t want to leave you bereft over the break, so we’ve got a little Christmas Eve treatette for you, stuffed right down in your filthy stocking. Yes, it’s a mini podcast – by which I mean about 40 minutes, which is actually quite maxi – where we just have a little chat about what games we’ll be playing over Christmas, and some of our Christmas traditions.
There is a very heated bit about cooking sprouts that, if I’m honest, takes up most of the run time, because it devolves into us interrogating Matthew about why he thinks fruit isn’t allowed to be added to the preparation of non-fruit foods.
Most survival games have an element of horror, giving us an inhuman hunger that’ll kill us if we don’t eat a three-course meal every five minutes. I like jokes. The Forest goes hard on horror, having cannibals and mutants stalk us, and the story-driven survival game’s sequel is looking just as wonderfully horrible. The developers, Endnight Games have announced they plan to release Sons Of The Forest in 2021, and shared a new trailer showing what’s waiting for us in the trees. I do not like it, which I like.

At last we come to the final door of the RPS Advent Calendar. Behind this is our game of the year, and you know what? It’s been a tough journey to get here. We’ve been through several different realms. Many beasts and several family friends have attacked us. Our dad has been weirdly unsupportive about the whole thing. But you know what? It feels like there’s a real boon waiting behind door 24…
What would the sprawling metropolises of a cyberpunk dystopia smell like? If you look beyond the gleaming skyscrapers of point ‘n’ click adventure VirtuaVerse’s futuristic city, it probably contains whiffs of the industrial odour of diesel and metal, tinged with the stench of rotting food and sewer drains.
Even through its pink and blue neon-lit structures, the place is overwrought with gloom and grime. You’ll see puddles of toxic spills from the perpetually torrential acid rain, decaying posters and messy graffiti on oil-stained walls, and bags of garbage spilling over sidewalks. It’s an abysmal place to be in, particularly so in the slums and back alleys – the city’s sordid underbelly where criminal gangs gather, and the homeless scavenge for leftover food and drugs in dumpsters.
Midnight, one more night without sleeping>Watching till the morning comes creeping>Green door, what’s that secret you’re keeping?>
With only one sleep left until Christmas, it must be time to play Dracula Cha Cha.
The best thing about this festive season is that it means the hell year of 2020 is almost over, and we can all run into the warm embrace of 2021… because 2021 is guaranteed to be better, isn’t it? Like, straight away.
Anyway, before the big red home invader comes down your chimney, The Weekspot Boys are here to give you an early festive gift of a Christmas-themed Mystery Steam Reviews.
Hotfix 1.06 cyberslid down Cyberpunk 2077‘s cyberchimney overnight, smashing a tiny handful of bugs including one important one: the problem of save files becoming corrupted if they hit 8MB in size. Pass that limit, and boosh, your save is gone, unrecoverable. This really only affected people who did a lot of crafting, but sure did suck for them. So now it’s fixed.

Q: How does the adorable spirit Ori decide what to have with their sandwich at lunchtime?
The huge new 1.5 update to beloved farming town simulation Stardew Valley surprise launched this week. I already told you about on Wednesday, but I’ve played a good several hours of it now so I’m going to tell you more about it because gosh it’s so good. The new beach farm is worth starting a new save file for, as are all the other cool new quality of life changes.
