Disco Elysium - The Final Cut - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

A shameful moment in a Disco Elysium screenshot.

A big ol’ free update is coming to Disco Elysium in March, developers Za/um announced today. ‘The Final Cut’ will expand the remarkable detective RPG’s voice acting to fully voice every character, which sounds a real treat, as well as add a new area, quests, and more. See (and hear!) more in the trailer below.

Forget Left 4 Dead 3, it’s all about Back 4 Blood, baby. If you’re looking for your next zombie fix, Turtle Rock Studios, the folks behind Left 4 Dead, revealed a trailer and some gameplay of their upcoming first-person zombiethon at the Game Awards tonight. Surprise, surprise, Back 5 Blood looks an awful lot like L4D. It also looks pretty great, and comes out next year, on June 22nd.

Joanna Dark poses in a frame from the new Perfect Dark's trailer.

Surprise! Perfect Dark, the sci-fi spy-fi shooter series from GoldenEye devs Rare, is returning in a brand new game. Named simply Perfect Dark, it’s being made by The Initiative, a new studio Microsoft announced in 2018. Bit of a surprise, considering it’s been 15 years since the second (and last) Perfect Dark. Details are thin for now, but you can see some dramatic scenery in the announcement trailer below.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… well, I don’t know, it’s still only December 10th. And while I certainly wouldn’t consider a corporate storefront my true love, it looks like the Epic Games Store may also have a dozen or so presents to leave under the tree. Starting next Thursday, Epic will give out a new free gift every day for 15 days – and I’m all but certain there’ll not be a pair of socks in sight.

Turn down those funky beats, cyberstreamers. In the run-up to launch, Cyberpunk 2077 was lauded for a DMCA-safe music mode that’d make the game safe to stream in an increasingly hostile copyright environment. On release, it looked like a song or two had slipped the cracks, but now the devs reckon more than a few troublesome tune ended up in that “safe” mode – recommending streamers play with music cranked down until they can patch out those pesky tunes.

The Wolf Among Us 2

has had a ruff (hah) development, to put it lightly. Surviving the catastrophic implosion of Telltale Games, last year’s edition of The Keighleys saw the creature wearing Telltale’s skin arise to confirm that the big bad sequel was still in development. Don’t get your hopes up for more news at tonight’s awards, mind – the devs today explained that while The Wolf Among Us is still happening, it’s not quite time to let this poor pup loose.

Little Nightmares II - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Natalie Clayton)

Fancy a go at brutally morbid platforming spooker Little Nightmares 2 ahead of next February’s release? Developers Tarsier Studios today released a short, free demo of the delightfully unsettling sequel’s opening act on Steam. Personally, the first game looked far too creepy for me – but maybe, with a pint-sized pal to join our lil’ raincoat bud this time around, things might be okay? Right?

Some badgers.

So long, Flash. After decades of driving independent game developers, animators and artists, the venerable web tool is being shut down for good at the end of the month. This week, Adobe pushed the final release of Flash Player to the web with a fond farewell – and an encouragement to uninstall the compromised tool before official support ends on December 31st. It’s not every day a patch release tells you to delete a piece of software, but there you go.

A photo of the Razer Blade Stealth 13 Late 2020 gaming laptop

When it comes to gaming performance, ultraslim laptops like the Razer Blade Stealth 13 are never going to compete with their larger, beefier brethren. There’s neither the room nor the airflow to sustain the kind of components you’d normally find in laptops in this kind of price range, and if all you want is something powerful to play games on that you can sort of move around your house or lug around in a backpack, then there are plenty of larger 15.6in and 17.3in laptops that will do the trick for a lot less.

No, the charm and allure of ultraslim gaming laptops like the Razer Blade Stealth 13 lies elsewhere: their size. And man alive if this isn’t one of the most gorgeous compact laptops I’ve ever tested.

Sove from Valorant wielding a snowball launcher.

On December 15th, Valorant will see its first ever Christmas update, and what better way to celebrate than to pelt your pals with snowballs in a new limited-time game mode. Of course, no snowball fight is complete without a grenade launcher and knives, right? In Valorant’s Snowball Fight, you’ll be loading up some snowy doom into a rigged molotov launcher, and you’ll have your trusty knife to finish the job if the frostbite doesn’t take down your enemies.
