American Truck Simulator - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Natalie Clayton)

Say what you want about the drivers in American Truck Simulator, but they’re sparkling housekeepers. Sitting up there in their spotless truck cabs, with nary a crisp packet to betray the long hours spent at the wheel. It’s all a bit sterile, really. Thankfully, this week’s Cabin Accessories pack lets you vandalise the place with tacky nick-nacks and discarded meal deals, making your home on the road feel a little less sterile.

A wood carving illustration of a Christmas rose flower, in black and white. It's actually in the buttercup family. Each flower has has five large petals, rounded but with a slight point.

And so we have entered December, screaming around the last hairpin bend of 2020, the wheels barely still on, the engine on fire, the tin of sucky sweets to stop you feeling car sick scattered across the dash. ‘Tis the season to be seasonal, although the effort is hampered in my own home because the bulb went in the front room some weeks back, and we pinned the tree lights up on the walls as a replacement, so we can’t put the tree up until we sort out the main light situation…

We’re now well into the RPS Advent Calendar for 2020, as well, though you can still have a gander at the Advent Calendar Guessing Game on the forums.

What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on!

There’s such a preposterous number of movies and tv shows currently being made based on video games that I’d honestly forgotten about Metal Gear Solid. A Snake-based motion picture is in the works and has finally decided on its face. Oscar Isaac, recently of Star Wars sequel series fame, will be playing your guy sneaky Solid Snake.

If you’re one of those people who enjoys playing games with other people well, I’ve got some news for you about people you can play games with. Community members over on the RPS Discord server pick a game each month to play together. They’ve chosen co-op dwarf FPS Deep Rock Galactic this month and have managed to rope in a member of Ghost Ship Games to play along too. You can check in on the server this month to join them for cooperative shooty mining combat.

Johnny Silverhand from Cyberpunk 2077 showing us his hairy armpits while sitting at a diner

I come to you today with important news: there is in fact more than one video game out this month.

Yes, that one video game is quite a biggie, and it’s definitely the one most will be picking up this December, but that doesn’t mean everyone is champing at the bit to play it. Maybe you’re not interested in the Deus Extra RPG that is Cyberpunk 2077. Perhaps you want gangsters, underwater puzzles, two-headed dogs!

So, if you’re one of those people, and you’re looking for a new game to play over the festive period, look no further than this list of the top 10 video games to play on PC this December.

Hollow Knight - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

Hornet from the Hollow Knight: Silksong trailer.

I miss Hollow Knight. Almost every day I scroll through the brilliant Metroidvania’s subreddit and Discord server. It used to be a ritual news-hunt, to quickly check if anything new had been said about the upcoming sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. But as time has gone by, I don’t go to those places for information, I go to remind myself I’m not the only one who misses the game desperately.

I know I could just play Hollow Knight. But that’s not really the point. Do you ever wish that you could wipe your memory of a favourite game, just to experience it all again?

A big picture of Pac-Man with the face of Gabe Newell

While most of us on this side of the world will be waiting a few weeks to crack open the boxes of biscuits, our American cousins had their big food day last week.

So, in tribute to The Land Of The Full and their recent holiday, we’ve made ourselves both very hungry and awfully thirsty by focusing on games that involve food and drink for this week’s Mystery Steam Reviews.

These phantom thieves sure need to work on their stealth because they’ve been spotted trying to make a sneaky entrance. It looks like Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, the hack and slash ’em up spinoff of Persona 5, is getting a worldwide release and on PC to boot. According to a trailer spotted on YouTube, it will launch as Persona 5 Strikers in February.
