TORCHLIGHT III LAUNCH

October 13th was a big day for us; as a team we have been working on this game for more than four years and have watched it steadily, and sometimes quite rapidly, grow and change as a product. We are proud of the game we have created as we know we have provided countless smiles and hours of entertainment for many of those who have wandered into the frontier.

And while we are delighted with what our team has accomplished, we have recently taken a step back to look at the launch and development of Torchlight III. Our internal teams have created thoughtful, but sometimes difficult post-mortems that will help guide us with future updates for Torchlight III. We understand that while many believe Torchlight III to be a great game, there are parts of it that have received critical, but fair feedback; we recognize that there is work to be done in several areas of the game to bring it up to a more polished level.

We won’t be able to completely placate all of the critiques in one patch, but as we move forward we are working on ways to simplify and better our internal process so that we can make better decisions for the community, the game, and for ourselves as a team.

In this Developer Update, we discuss the launch of Torchlight III, the recent 'Gear 'N' Goblins' patch, current community concerns, and reveal details about the upcoming 'Snow & Steam' update.

This is a short description of the reptile class. Reptiles are the most powerful among the three creature classes. Their superior strength and high HP provide them a significant advantage in combat. On the other hand, they are the slowest monsters, and cold weather makes them somewhat weaker. However, lizards have some unique traits like the regeneration of health, poison bite, fire spit, static skin, and dragon breath.

Reptiles have the longest lifespan, they live up to 25-35 years, but their moderate resilience makes them more vulnerable to abomination illness. They grow slower than other creatures, do not tolerate cold and dry, and some species can not reproduce without water.

Yes, this is a big, not big, a huge step. This build, while for you it might not mean much, is the first build with the fully tested localization system. What does that mean? It means that from now on adding languages is going to be just a matter of producing the contents, and the game will fully support them out of the box. The first language, already included in this build, is Chinese, and it's the beginning of our collaboration with our Asian Partner: Whisper Games (that just to mention some, are taking care of the localization of Disco Elysium, Endzone, Wartile, Rising Lords, etc).



It's huge, isn't it? First language planned is Italian, already halfway ready. To follow, in order to be decided, its gonna be Portuguese, Greek, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Korean and Japanese.
We wanna make sure that by release time, all these will be available for the game. It's a huge effort, in production and costs, but we think that it was due!



Ah, and we also got some new promo art done by the legendary Giacomo!







That said, let's get onto a few of new fixes, that are always pleasant to show off!

  • Fixed text layer position compared to background in Victory panels
  • Added tooltip and specifications on Tributes UIs
  • Fixed a bug that displayed Lumberjack research updates on the Quarry and Iron mine panel
  • Fixed a UI bug that caused spritesheets bleeding into towers and buildings portraits
  • Fixed missing fonts for the in-battle scout reports
  • Fixed wrong mouse-over on Management and Luck on Heimer's panel
  • Fixed post-riot impact on both Campaign (1 dialog and then automatic) and Sandbox (automatic)
  • Fixed an issue with wrong keys to activate the battle cooldown abilities
  • Fixed one bug with reinforcements being recalled but the modifiers persisting
  • Fixed one bug with reinforcements being cancelled from the actions but not resetting the status in the sending province

That said, now that this is done, off to some new cool stuff that you will see in game VERY VERY Soon!!

To play with us, go to your Steam Library and download “Insurgency: Sandstorm Community Test Environment". Boot up the CTE, and please set matchmaking regions to US East. Click Play, select Co-op, select New Map: Bab, and Find Match. All of the devs won’t necessarily be in one game, but you’ll see us floating around your matches!

During the CTE, we will be restricting the playlists to focus solely on the new content.

Please note that all devs will have a DEV tag next to their name in-game. Anyone posing as a dev without the DEV tag is not an NWI developer.

Another set of bug fixes you report to us. This time they may not be blocking the game, but they are very annoying. We realize that these are not all problems, but we will gradually solve them. There is still a lot of time until the premiere...

Decisions and story:
  • Sashko now correctly changes his attitude if you changed your decisions in "A few things from an old hideout"
  • Sashko will no longer react negatively to Igor for releasing Kostya from prison if Kostya died earlier
  • Sashko now has no change in attitude due to the Ferris wheel crashing down if the player chose to kill Kozlov.
  • “Checkpoint Assault” will no longer require player input every time you return to the Fractal Timeline
  • If a player during "Big Fish" shoots down the helicopter, Mikhail should not leave the team. The decision influences and correctly scales with his loyalty.
  • Olga should no longer be "lost" when we rescue her from prison.
  • During Hack Nar Server, the decision was the opposite of what it should have been. We fixed it.

AI and combat:
  • Soldiers should now react correctly to the death of an ally killed with a silenced weapon. When they hear the body fall, they will check it out, and when they see their ally die
  • Weapons should now be properly filled with ammunition if it has a magazine other than the default.
  • Bolderer's AI was created before EA started. It passed a deep update, which should solve many problems, such as correct path searching, using portals, problems with animations, or sensitivity to eyesight and hearing.

General:
  • Event marker on the compass should now correctly change the transparency scale with distance.
  • Fixed a collision on the passage that prevented you from entering one of the stashes behind the chernobylite wall in Pripyat Central
  • High-tech equipment in Igor's room should now have the correct textures
  • In some quests, an old placeholder was showing on TVs instead of Tarakan. We fixed it.
  • Hermit we encountered on the related quest was very dark. We improved its lighting.
  • Events with gas clouds should no longer spawn in sectors where the main quest is taking place.
  • When entering the fractal world, the cutscene for putting on the helmet should always start correctly
  • During training with Tarakan, it was possible to block yourself if we started a dialogue with him holding a weapon in our hand. We fixed it.
  • We have fixed a very rare issue that was causing problems with sharpen postprocessing.
  • Fixed issues with poor texture quality on some elevations.
  • Fixed lighting issues during mission "Weapon Transport"
