Heads up, your yearly package of guns and gimmickry has been incoming ever since we discovered its name from that most reliable of informants: a Doritos packet. As ever, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will see you wordlessly slaying any number of Iranians, Turks, Vietnamese, Russians, Germans, Cubans, all in the name of Uncle Sam and, this time, under the approving, wrinkled eyes of Ronald Reagan. The story is set in 1981 and it does not take a revisionist pen to history so much as it wraps a cloth bag over history’s head and hoses it down against a chainlink fence. It is incoherent numbskullery, tasking you with avoiding nuclear war, while at the same time insisting that gunning down the entire staff of Moscow’s KGB headquarters will not be interpreted as an act of war in itself. Plausible deniability is at the heart of what we do, argues one of the idiot spooks on your squad. But within the stupidity of this story hides an insidious and intractable message about the necessity of doing wrong.

Since then, the Kickstarted project has crouched in the shadows, forgotten by most, waiting to reveal itself once again. After half a decade of development hell, work on the game has finally resumed, all thanks to glitchy horror short Paratopic.

The Double Assassination has featured in many Assassin’s Creed games, allowing players to kill two enemies at once. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla shares a lot of its DNA with older AC games, even equipping Eivor with a hidden blade at the start of the game. To the left of the door of the safehouse in Call of Duty Cold War‘s campaign, you’ll see a locked gate with a clipboard hanging off of it. Turns out, Activision didn’t sprout from the ground fully formed as a Call Of Duty money-printing machine. Shocking, I know, but it seems the publishers were making cabinet games all the way back in the 80s – coincidentally, the same era in which Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes place. Treyarch’s latest shooter pays homage to the publisher’s arcade roots, with playable classics hidden across the espionage thriller’s campaign.

So, you’ve just beaten Destiny 2: Beyond light, powered up your Guardian with the slickest gear, and feel ready to take on the world in high-stakes wizard PVP. Well, I hate to break it to you, but you’ll just have to wait a few more weeks. Due to an unidentified issue, Bungie have benched Destiny 2‘s Trials of Osiris for the next two weeks, bringing the competitive PVP event ’til November 27th.

Live concerts are over, videogames are the new music gigs. While Fortnite probably holds some kind of record for hosting the most concerts, film premieres and documentaries, it hardly holds a monopoly on virtual performances. Tonight, it’s Roblox‘ turn, as rapper Lil Nas X steps onto the game creation platform’s stage to premiere a new track in a somewhat blocky online show.
