Hello everyone!

Patch 1.10.2 of the "Collie" update is now live and should be downloading through Steam and Microsoft Store as we speak. The new checksum is f82d.
This update brings a number of bug fixes and balance changes to the 1.10.1 release of last month (see changelog below for details).

Saves made with 1.10.1 are expected to be fully compatible with 1.10.2 and you can continue your previous game without risk.

Should you still have an older saved game (from 1.9 "Husky" or 1.8 "Fork"), it will not be compatible with 1.10.2, even if the game does not report it as such. This is sadly an issue we could not fix in this patch without painful side effects (see the known issues page).

As always, if you have an older save you can finish it by rolling back to an older patch.

If you discover any bugs in patch 1.10.2, please report them in the bug report forum as usual.

- Removed AI weight towards garrisoning in Bulgarian AI strategy, so that it no longer prioritizes garrisoning cities instead of defending its borders during a war.
- Zveno coup can now be properly stopped by either destroying/integrating the Zveno, completing focus Fatherland Front or having the Fatherland Front formed and working against the player.
- Leaders are now properly assigned to each side. No more zombie Boris coming back from the grave, no more country leaders mysteriously disappearing from the original tag.
- Cleaned-up ultra-messy tooltip for Impending Zveno Coup decision. Now it is short and easy to read.
- Kimon Georgiev will remain in original Bulgaria if he has been appointed as an advisor or country leader before the civil war starts
- Several focuses in the Bulgarian FT are now locked if Bulgaria is a puppet. Note that puppet Bulgaria can still complete the focuses to "approach" a country, but will not be able to progress any further in the branch.

  • Lekrashan & Goldmont Battleships
    • The Old Moon Rescue Party has reported that Lekrashan, which used to appear in the border between Ross Sea and Margoria Sea, has moved to the border between Juur Sea and Margoria Sea.
      • Ninesharks and Black Rusts, attracted by Lekrashan's concentrated black energy, have formed a habitat in the border between Juur Sea and Margoria Sea.
      • Defeat <Chasing Dark High Seas> Nineshark and <Chasing Dark High Seas> Black Rust inhabiting the border between Juur Sea and Margoria Sea. Then Lekrashan will show itself from the depths of the ocean at a certain chance.
      • Lekrashan is weak to external shock since it hasn't got out of the sea for a long time and focused fire will stun it.
      • Up to 3 adventurers may collect loot after defeating Lekrashan.
      • You may obtain Junk items that can be sold for crystals or Crow Coins by defeating monsters in Lekrashan's habitat.


    • The Old Moon Rescue Party has reported that the Goldmont Pirate has expanded their influence to Vadabin Sea near Port Ratt and is attacking the traders of the merchants that pass through the port. Hence the Port Ratt coast guard is recruiting experienced sailors to exterminate the Goldmont Pirate.
      • The Goldmont Pirate will issue an alert at a certain chance when you defeat <Outlaw of the Vadabin Sea> Goldmont Pirate. Once the alert is issued, the Goldmont battleships will appear. Depending on the situation of the battle, these battleships will receive support from the nearby pirate ships.
      • You may obtain crafting and upgrade materials for Epheria Caravel/Epheria Galleass as loot when you defeat <Outlaw of the Vadabin Sea> Goldmont Pirate.
      • You will obtain more sailor EXP when you defeat <Outlaw of the Vadabin Sea> Goldmont Pirate than the amount obtained from defeating the normal Goldmont Pirate.
    • The Agris Fever points consumed when defeating monsters at Lekrashan's habitat or the Goldmont Pirate's areas are as follows.

    • The Naval Fame points recovered when defeating monsters at Lekrashan's habitat are as follows.
It's been more than a year since we launched The Great Expedition. First off, we'd like to thank all our adventurers who continue to show their love and support for this content.
Until now, Black Desert Online's ocean content mainly consisted of seeking profit through barter while defeating monsters such as Hekaru or Pirate Ships. However, many adventurers who were expecting a wild naval battle with enormous carracks have expressed their disappointment. Hence, starting with this update, we are planning to add monster zones in which you can experience the immense power of the carracks. Here, you will feel the full power of the carracks and be rewarded for your efforts.


  • Sea Crystals
    • Added "Sea Crystals" which can be equipped to Large Ships.
      • Sea Crystal grades are (in ascending order): Eltro, Serni, Zulatia, and Margoria. Higher grade crystals have better stats.
      • If you use a Crystal, you may obtain 1 Sea Crystal of the same grade.

      • The Crystals can be obtained by defeating monsters at Lekrashan's habitat and Goldmont battleships.
      • Equip a Sea Crystal to your ship to increase 1 of the 8 stats.

      • You may obtain crystals of higher grade using the following crafting methods.

      • Perform Simple Alchemy on each sea crystal to obtain its Origin, the source of its power.
      • You can purchase Oquilla Emerald Fresh Water, Oquilla Aquamarine Fresh Water, Oquilla Golden Fresh Water, and Void Sea Crystal from Ravinia at Crow's Nest and Port Ratt.
  • Added the effects where you can use 100 Energy with Black Spirit to gain Combat EXP +20% for 60 min or Skill EXP +8% for 60 min.
  • The effects and durations of the Combat/Skill EXP buffs obtainable by using Energy from Black Spirit will now be displayed on the Exchange buttons.
    • The actual duration and effect remain the same.
  • Added Villa Scrolls usable at the Campsite.


  • Guards have started to protect the following ports as pirates are disrupting the order in the Great Ocean by becoming more active.

Quest
  • Three new Caphras journals, "Caphras - Journal of Destruction," "Caphras - Journal of Nature," "Caphras - Journal of Glory," which hold the dark past of Caphras, have been unveiled. Transform "Caphras - Journal of Light and Shadow" obtained during Caphras' Adventure Logs into one of the three journals. Each of them has its own latent ability.
    • After completing Caphras's Adventure Logs Vol.1–4 and the quest "Caphras: Book of Immortality" from the Black Spirit, accept "Caphras: The Life of Light and Shadow" from the Black Spirit and go to Velia to talk with Alustin.
    • After completing the relevant quest from Alustin of Velia, accept the quest "Caphras' Journal, Mysterious Power" and take "Caphras - Journal of Light and Shadow" and Caphras Stone x10 to Alustin to complete the quest. Then you may choose to receive one of the three Caphras - Journals.
    • You may exchange the transformed Caphras journals into another journal by doing the quest "[Repeat] Caphras' Journal, Mysterious Power" from Alustin of Velia and use the journal with the stats you wish depending on the situation.
  • The crafting method for the Ancient Kingdom of Orzeca's Mass of Pure Magic has been discovered at the Crypt of Resting Thoughts and its mass production has initiated under the command of Queen Viorencia Odore. However, this mass production requires a material called "Essence of Tunta" and the Verti, a direct subordinate organization of the queen, is looking for assistants who can supply the essence.
    • If you become the Verti's assistant, you can supply Essence of Tunta once per week to them and receive Mass of Pure Magic x5 as a reward.
    • If your Amity with Queen Viorencia Odore is 1 or higher, you can activate the "Life" Quest Type and talk with Celphie, the Audrite Holy Priestess of O'draxxia, to accept the [Essence of Tunta] questline.
    • Be acknowledged as the Verti's assistant by completing the [Essence of Tunta] questline and talk with Celphie again to do the [Weekly] Essence of Tunta quest. This quest requires you to activate Quest Type "Other" and can be completed only once per week.

  • Fixed the awkward part of the skill description tooltip displayed in the Skill Add-on window.
  • Fixed the issue where Bloodstorm Nouver sometimes did not react when attacking him with a Ranged combat type character.

Known Issues
  • [Music Album] We are aware of the issue where going over a certain number of notes while composing causes the composition to not be seamless.
  • We are aware of the issue where Ebenruth's Nol's item effect of 1 additional use of BreezySail that does not consume stamina is not being applied.
  • We are aware of the issue where some Adventurers were able to accept and complete the [Event] A Very Secret Deal I, II, III quests even though the quests were planned to be changed to be unacceptable and uncompletable from November 11 at 00:00 until today's maintenance.
    • We are currently investigating this issue. Adventurers who did not accept and complete the quests from November 11, 2020 (Wed) at 00:00 until the start of today's maintenance will be sent the [Event] Morden Secret Trade Voucher by in-game mail during the November 18, 2020 (Wed) maintenance to allow them to be able to accept and complete the [Event] A Very Secret Deal I, II, III quests.
    • Adventurers who forfeited the quest after accepting the quest between November 11, 2020 (Wed) at 00:00 until the start of maintenance will also be sent the [Event] Morden Secret Trade Voucher.

  • You can now specify the maximum number of participants in a studio: between 2 and 16.
    • You can change the maximum number in Settings > [Studio] > [Maximum room capacity].

Changes
  • When the motion filter is enabled, the change made to the user height slider will no longer take effect immediately.

Improvements
  • The multi-line state of the ring menu will be saved from now on.

  • Changed the finger pose control scheme for the VIVE Cosmos controller.
    • The control will be similar to that of Oculus Touch except that you use the press of A and X button instead of touching them.
    • Some poses are not implemented.

  • Changed the default binding for VIVE Cosmos so you can open the ring menu with the Y button on the left-hand controller.
  • Now, the key to resume the rendering will be displayed when rendering to the desktop is disabled.
Bug fixes
  • Fixed the issue where you sometimes teleported backward when you are holding an item in your left hand.
  • Fixed the issue where you could not post the recorded movie to Twitter when you deleted a movie capture with less than 10 seconds of recording.
  • Fixed the issue where when you are using Vive Trackers, you couldn't recalibrate properly after once calibrating in an incorrect posture.

Hi everyone!

Last time we posted a whole devblog about Footprints. And from here we are pretty close to the subject of the character's movement. To be specific - to a walk cycle. So, sit, let your legs rest and read a long (but I hope also fascinating) text… about walking ;)

A walk cycle is a nice animation task to examine because:

❄️ You see it a lot, over and over again in fact, so it’s a good thing to lavish attention on;
❄️ It’s a nice contained animation (time duration wise) to examine body mechanics;
❄️ It’s often one of the first things people attempt when starting out, certainly it was for me.

So we’ll step through some of the key aspects (as far as I’m concerned) today and on the next week. It’s not going to be exhaustive, but an overview. I’m sure there are some things I’ll miss but hey, nobody’s perfect right! Today, we’re mostly gonna be looking at the key poses and the role of the hips.

Key Poses (Contact Poses & Passing Poses)

At the top level there are four key poses in a walk cycle. There are as follows:

❄️ Left Foot Contact Pose - Left foot forward & right foot back. Right arm forward & left arm back (opposing legs);
❄️ Right Foot Passing Pose - Right foot passes the standing left foot as it moves forward;
❄️ Right Foot Contact Pose - Left foot forward & right foot back. Right arm forward & left arm back (opposing legs);
❄️ Left Foot Passing Pose - Right foot passes the standing left foot as it moves forward.

You can see these base poses below in Tove’s walk cycle.



Transferal of Weight

When a human walks they are constantly falling forward but are catching themselves with each step. With each step the weight of the body transfers from one foot to the other. This frees the other foot to move forward, unencumbered by the need to bear the body’s weight. The ‘free‘ foot will then make contact with the floor as the next step is made and the weight of the body will begin to transfer to this foot subsequently freeing the other foot from supporting the body so it can make its step forward.

This transferal of weight is critical to creating a convincing walk cycle.

How does this transfer of weight make itself know in the key poses? Well there are two key elements, both concern the hips of the character.



The Hips’s Side-To-Side motion & Center of Gravity

When the weight of the body is on a particular foot the hips will move over to that side to balance the body’s center of gravity. Without this movement you’d simply fall over. It’s something we do without thinking, try standing on one leg and see what happens to your hips. They move over to the standing leg right, that’s what we’re talking about.

This side-to-side motion produces the ‘sway‘ you see when people walk.

Hip Rotation

One common mistake when people attempt their first walk cycles is to ignore the rotation of the hips. There are two important hip rotations to be aware of:

❄️ Yaw rotation of the hips
❄️ Roll rotation of the hips



For the hip’s yaw rotation the important consideration is that your legs do not flip-flap on the end of static hips they are a unit! If you stand up and approximate a contact key pose (one leg forward, the other back) you will notice that your hips are not straight, they will have twisted to extend your stride and the reach of your foot. Not utilising the yaw rotation of the hips means your character will be taking tiny steps (as their stride will be reduced) and it will look very mechanical, as the legs and hips are not working together as a unit.

The hip’s roll rotation also plays an important role in the walk cycle, specifically to do with the transfer of weight.

When standing on a single leg the hips/pelvis will roll up on that side as the full weight of the body is taken. Animation wise this is a great way to sell the transfer of weight in your animations and give a clear indication when the weight is passes and the hips roll one way and then the other.



It’s also important to note that this hip movement can be adjusted for the weight of your characters. If your character is heavier (like Henrik) then this transfer might be more sudden and less smooth then for a lighter character. In fact this motion is a great way to sell a heavier character.
