Randvi, Sigurd and Eivor looking at the Alliance Map in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

The Assassin’s Creed series has an on and off again relationship with multiplayer. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a strange case in which there is actually some online functionality, with one aspect definitely leaning into the realm of multiplayer. To set the record straight we’ve put together this guide on the online functionality in the game. Let’s take a look at whether there is multiplayer.

Grounded - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

A player being chased by a beastly Koi fish in Grounded.

It’s time to go swimming with the fishes in Grounded. I don’t mean that menacingly, though. Yesterday, Obsidian added a big koi pond to their Honey I Shrunk The Kids-like sandbox, so you can literally go for a little swim with some aquatic lads now.

Actually, wait, the pond does sound quite dangerous.

“This boss of the pond might only have one good eye, but it only needs one eye to notice you, and you never, ever, want it to notice you,” the devs say of that chonking great koi.

Destiny 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Yearbook-style pictures of Destiny 2 characters: Randal the Vandal, the 'biggest jock'; the Exo Stranger, 'most likely to not have time to explain'; Variks, the 'class clown'.

In the run-up to yesterday’s launch of Destiny 2: Beyond Light, many players were excited for the return of familiar people and places. Will Randal the Vandal be up to his old tricks? Will the Exo Stranger say what she said six years ago? But Destiny 1 wasn’t on PC so I didn’t play it, and I feel like I’ve turned up to someone else’s school reunion. Everyone’s stoked to crack open a couple engrams with the lads in the Loot Cave and reminisce, while I’m stuck in an awkward conversation with some big fella who chatters and clicks like a happy budgie.

A screenshot from Yakuza: Like A Dragon where Adachi is holding Kasuga in a graveyard

I don’t think I fully appreciated how long Yakuza: Like A Dragon was going to be when I started this let’s play series.

Still, the sincerity and scenery-chewing of its characters will get me through this mammoth task quite easily, I think. It’ll have to, because we’re still very much in cutscene city at the moment.

This is LollaYakuza #02: Bloody Reunion.

Eivor sitting in the throne/big chair in Ravensthorpe's longhouse, which technically he should not being doing

What is a home? My yardstick is that home is anywhere I don’t feel weird opening the fridge and making myself a sandwich from its contents. If you are left alone somewhere and you find yourself thinking, “But what if I make a sarnie with that ham and it turns out it it was special ham being saved for a special occasion??” then you are not anywhere that is home for you. Likewise, if anyone tells me to make myself at home, I immediately go and get the cheese out of their fridge and take a bite out of it, while maintaining eye contact, to establish dominance.

Your home in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla does not have a fridge, because Viking raiders setting up a new camp in the Midlands do not have fridges. But you do get a big communal pot of stew, and in the end isn’t that just as good? Answer: yes it is. I love my settlement. Let me take you on a small tour.
